Risk of injuries as beginner?

I watched the LJ Strenio Season+Injury edit and now I'm a bit scared to try new stuff etc. How big is the risk of injuries as a beginner, and how to avoid they injuries? Should I just keep on progressing and hope that never happen something?I never broke anything in my life, so I don't know anything about it...

Strengthen your muscles, and getting injured that bad as a beginner is minimalistic. And just don't think about it or you end up not progressing at all..

Thanks :) Oh yess thats so true. Living in fear the whole season and didnt learn one trick-.- Last week I found my balls and did some shit was pretty funny ;)!

Try not to think about it because there's always going to be a risk, no matter how good you are. You won't progress unless you try stuff, and you're bound to get hurt eventually.

What you can do it strengthen your muscles by working out and STRETCHING before AND AFTER you go out skiing.

well because you mostly will hit smaller stuff, it's way less likely you'll get hurt.but it's always easy to do stuff like fall on your shoulder or twist your knee the wrong way.

I would say that advanced skiers have a lot higher risk of injury because they're trying to push themselves instead of learning basics.

Also, remember what LJ was trying to do in that clip, he was trying to disaster 6 a massive urban dfd at a very high speed. Obviously beginners will never be trying this trick, so just stay within your ability level and you should be fine.

Thanks guys for all your help! Ski season is over soon, now its time to aggressive skating every day and progressing as much as possible and have fun :D!

Remeber to use helmet and a back protecter(don't know if it's called that), and an knee pad if you really don't want to be hurt

Helmet and Backprotector for sure! A friend told me that a knee protectros (and ellbows, wrists in blading) are unnecessary because if you really fall big they knee will be destroyed the same like without protectors. (hope you understand, english isnt my best language). True?

This this and this.

Risk is inherent in life, all you can do is try to minimize it. Hit features with confidence and learn how to take a fall. Try not to brace for your falls too much as that is how you get hurt. If you stay within your ability level, you shouldn't get much more than bumps and bruises (sometimes bad ones) and the occasional muscle strain/sprain if you land awkwardly.

Freestyle skiing is fun, but it comes with a price, a steep learning curve and an array of minor body injuries. As long as you are okay with that, you have a long, adventurous journey ahead of you.

Of course your knee will be destroyed if you have a really big fall, but in smaller falls i think they will help. I have never used them so really don't know

Thank you! Can you help me with one sentence, I dont understand this one:

Hit features with confidence and learn how to take a fall. Try not to brace for your falls too much as that is how you get hurt.

How to learn fall? Just practising and falling xD?

And, what do you mean with brace? dont understand this word and google translator cant help me.

when you're walking down the street and trip you'll put your arms out to stop yourself.never do this on skis. the way to fall is to make yourself small as possible. I'm not sure about "don't brace for falls too much" but I think that means don't flex your muscles cause it'll do more damage than harm.

eg. you overshoot a jump. don't attempt to land when you know you're going to eat shit, just try to give in and absorb the impact

Thank you so much! This sentence changed my mind. Not only in skiing, same in rolleblading... Always get hurt if I tried to absorb the impact with my hands.

and try to roll as much as you can if you have a big fall. if your sideways you'll want to roll from feet to hip to bicep, if you're switch you'll want to roll up your back, and if you're forward then try and get yourself sideways because faceplants are brutal and you can easily fuck up your teeth or concuss yourself.

Yep that is basically what I meant. Keep your body loose on impact.

You ever hear those stories about how a drunk driver never gets hurt in a car accident because his body is loose and just flows with the car while the people in the other car that tense up and prepare for the crash get hurt and die? Similar line of thinking.

Protect your face first and foremost, that should take precedence over everything else. Other than that, I think "it depends." If I fall on a rail I usually end up slipping out and landing on my trailing leg upper thigh which hurts like a bitch. Maybe wear soft padding on your elbows and knees while you are learning.

I wear 'Crash Pads' and soft knee pads -- they offer decent protection without constricting your movement and they give me the confidence to throw things a little harder. All personal preference however.

don't forget this + the first post, op.

it's more fun to ski with people who aren't biches and terrified of trying new tricks. when you want to try new stuff just think about landing it and what it would look/feel like from your perspective. don't look at all the things that could go wrong.

pretty simple... Just do a lap, scope the setup. Do another lap just geting your speed dialed in. Lastly, dont go to far out of your comfort zone ie. huck a double backie even though you cant do one.

The worst thing you can do is think about getting hurt constantly.

To progress, the best thing to do is ride with friends. Doesn't matter if they snowboard or ski, stoke is stoke either way. Normally, when I'm doing laps by myself, I'm not progressing. I'm just practicing what I already know and putting down a run that I can consistently land. Like I said, when progressing, the worst thing you can do is keep thinking about injuries. Don't take forever looking at a feature and picturing the worst possible scenario. It will sketch you out and it will be a wasted run.

Commit, then hit it. Trying something new always gives me a huge adrenaline rush.
