Ripping off Artist's Ideas (Check it..)

Alright, so I'm sure someone would be mad, if they spent some time, thinking up and creating a piece of work, and then later finding out that someone copied that idea, posting it up as if it is legitamitally their work.

Anyways..this happend to me with the Line Skis art contest deal. At least I think so.

I find it funny he would even pair the line chronic birds with the Pollard Pros.

Anyways, this sucks. Anybody know who Pat Cochran is? I want to get a hold of this fool and explain to him ripping, is not cool.

Fuckkkkkkkk that. Matt's (jibEmpyre) is MUCH better. To whomever asked how the guy saw Matt's work and ideas, the one that Matt did was one of three or so pictures for the Enter page on the Line site (www.lineskis.com). It has now been replaced with the ripoff, and I, for one, am extremely disgruntled.

you do realize that you ripped off others as well right? Where did that background photo come from, the birds icon, even the font? He didn't do any worse then you did in that sense. I spent time majoring in multimedia design and people bitched about this all the time. Ideas are just that, ideas, you can't really 'steal' a montage. It's just a theme. You could put a theme out there and 100 people will do it in 100 ways. Get over it, he violated no copy-right laws from what I see.

i have always been told in order to avoid copyright law, the original needs to be manipulated 75% or so, so that it isnt recognizeable as the original. now it kinda comes down to where you got your images from. if everything you used is from the line site ie. the photo, the birds, etc. then i am assuming for the contest it was fair game for anyone to use, in which case he would be copying you. if you took that phot yourself, made the bird images yourself, etc, then he is copying your work for sure

I thought up the idea of using a telephone wire base with the birds..(birds are often seen sitting on telephone wires), and then you go and see the same exact fucking thing in his design.

He ripped me off, its as simple as that. The background I used is a picture from lines site, along with some brushing job to make it look dirtier. And I'm 100% positive I wouldnt be fucking complaining if he used the same damn font I did.

yea, he didn't rip you off. I think we've all seen birds on phone lines before... so nothing new there either, not some revolutionary idea on your part at all. You did good work, but you weren't copied, only did a better job at composition then the next guy. and for that Props.

all though birds and telephone poles are common items together, its the fact that the exact same combination of ideas was used in the exact same competition.

I wouldnt say he blantanly ripped you off, but perhaps used your idea to cure a little artists block.

I can understand you being upset, but you could be consoled by the fact that this guy is less creative than you, and, as we can see by his entry compared to yours, not as good of a designer either.

I'm the little bitch? You and Erik owed me like 200 for the web design..never paid me on time. 2 weeks or so went by without payment, and then you picked me up as an owner in the company. The company didnt make any money, so I never got any profit from the work I did..neither did you, or anyone.

So technically Erik owed me like half that price, but you don't see me bitching about this money thing all the time. I don't ask him for 100 or you for 100. I just dropped it.
