regardless, jobs was a huge factor in early home computers for "normal" people. there are plenty of negative things you could say about apple, but you should at least be able to respect he was an important dude
 
IN GRADE 9 BUSINESS WE WATCHED THIS MOVIE CALLED PIRATES OF SILCONE BAY OR SOMETHING. ITS A MOVIE ABOUT THE FIRST PERSONAL COMPUTERS AND HOW BILL GATES STOLE THE MAC IDEA OF ICONS AND STUFF. ITS NOT A DOCUMENTERY THOUGH, SO I DONT KNOW HOW MUCH OF IT IS TRUE BUT ITS A COOL STORY NONE THE LESS.

I get chills down my spine about this whole thing, I feel at such a loss for a person I didn't even know.

RIP Steve Jobs, you were truly one of a kind and forever changed the world of technology as we know it.
 
when you get out in the real world you will start to learn that all of the big bosses grew up in the 60's and 70's and acted, and in some cases still act accordingly. They just keep the extracurriculars to after clocking out.

But imo this thing is kinda over exaggerated. Wilson Greatbatch, the guy that invented the pacemaker, died a week prior to Steve, and he for sure saved a lot more lives than Steve did.

Jobs wás an unusual, exceptional person, but not the biggest man to have ever lived. I don't even think Michael Jackson had this big a thread...
 
yes but steve jobs didnt molest any young children, nor hang a baby out of a window.

michael jackson, was accused of touching young children, and tried to become white.

non of ns was around to see MJ's talent so I think that is why the majority of people here only know about what i above mentioned.

yes jobs was a good CEO, but apart from the PC thing, his ipods, ipads and stuff really didnt help anybody but apple. its not like he saved a billion lives and stuff.

 
Agreed. We were a generation born into technology - I think most can agree with me in that we know how to use a computer better than our parents do. Steve Jobs was the pioneer behind some of the greatest advances in technology (ipod, iphone, mbp, ipad, etc) within the last decade. These are things in which our generation grew into, use each and every day, and for some can't live without. The peak of Steve Jobs' geniusness happened during our time--he created devices that were specifically marketed for our generation, which is why I think this is hitting everyone harder than expected.
 
the guy made computer markets progress. he created things people loved. he made the competition have to step up their games. he progressed computers beyond massive towers and shitty displays. he revolutionized music and made it cool at the same time. he might not have saved billions of lives but you could argue he certainly changed them for the better.
 
i agree with where youre coming from, but i dont think the reaction to jobs' death has been an overreaction so much as the world's had too little of a reaction to wilson's death. the fact that he died should be something the media and world are discussing, and it's a crying shame that it's not, but that doesnt mean you have to discount jobs' death-- like i said, dislike apple all you want but to think that he wasnt a HUGELY important person in this revolutionary time of computers is just plain wrong

and yeah, if you look at computers in the 80's-90's, mac made the first user interface, before it was just command prompts to open and use programs.

the first GUI was not apple, it was xerox.

the first personal computers were not apple

the first successful personal computer was a commodore

the first apple computers were not by jobs, they were wozniak

the first successful GUI on a personal computer was Jobs.

He also thought every invention was extremely shitty or amazing, and sometimes, after a few weeks, he would decide the shitty inventions were amazing and claim they were his creation.

Nevertheless, Jobs was amazing. He was a true genius at work and just had a ton of passion for what he did. He will be missed.
 
It's sort of weird to look back on this thread now.

I was one that thought apple could not survive with out him but Tim Cook is doing an amazing job.

just look at their earnings call last night, 110 billion in cash reserves. the stock has doubled since Cook tookover and is up 54 points after hours since the earnings call.
 
I think a big part of that is the ipad. The first one everyone thought would be dumb, second one started to really get big. Now with the third one EVERYONE wants one. People upgrading from the 2's, people that were waiting for something new, people that are just finding out about it because it's so big now. It's huge
 
Ipads are still dumb as fuck, the people I know with them use them to check the weather and play drawing games.

My iPad has pretty much taken over most of my computing needs. Only thing I really use my computer for now is design/editing and major word processing.

I have all my college texts on it, which are a fuckload cheaper and lighter than physical copies. All my lecture slides and notes are on it, and super easy to reference.

Camera kit is pretty rad to check pictures quickly out in the field.

VNC program to access and control my computer from any wifi spot.

.... And I hope you didn't just hate on Drawesomething.....

Their stock never dips after an earnings call. I can not remember a time when they didn't have an excessively large net profit.

I haven't missed Steve. Also my iPhone stopped autocorrecting me everytime I spell out shit or fuck, so looks like things are headed up in the world. I like being able to write out that I took a shit on a loose wet skank whore's boobs without having it come out "I took a shot on a loose wet skunk horse's booms."
