RIP Rory

Don't know if any Colorado peeps on here knew Rory, but he was a real one. Drank fireball with him on a lift at Winter Park last season, just talked about our boots and shit. Then I saw this early this week. Fucked. Started while he was in bounds at Northstar, looks like he got lost in a whiteout storm. Thinking of his sister who searched the resort area for days looking for him. She said he was found with his skis laid in front of him and his hands over his heart. Shit can happen anytime, anywhere in the mountains. Don't take it for granted.

I knew Rory. I can attest to his passionate spirit and enthusiasm for skiing. He was always so stoked to talk skiing. I kind of worked with him at the Surefoot in Denver. Then he told me he was moving out to the Tahoe area to open up the new Surefoot location. I couldn't believe it when I saw his name on the news that he was missing. my heart dropped. He was an amazing skier and an incredibly supportive friend. I had a freeride comp last season and he went out of his way to give me his all mtn skis to ride. Brought me over to his house, smiling the whole time, showed me his entire ski collection, detailed and stoked the entire conversation. waving goodbye wishing me goodluck. That was the last time I saw him. He was supposed to pick them up before moving out to Tahoe. I still have his skis, and was never able to get them back to him. I will always keep his skis and ride on them in memory of him. I still cannot believe he is gone and hope that his friends and family are healing through their trauma. It really shakes you when you know such a good skier and they're gone just like that. RIP Rory. Cherish the moments with your friends.
