Josh Malay sustained a head injury on the first day of filming with Trans World in Spain. From what I have been told he hit his head on a rock head first. He broke his skull, but was talking before the doctors put him into an induced coma. One of the three doctors said he would not live.

Unfortunately that doctor was right, Josh died the next day (February 28th) around 630 pm MST. He was a respected snowboarder and artist. He will be greatly missed by his friends, family and the whole skiing and snowboarding community.

Someone posted this poem for a different lost soul but I think it fits well.

Do not stand at my grave and weep

This is really starting to affect me. I never wore a helmet before except when trying new tricks in the park but now...I think it is time to start wearing one whenever I am freeskiing. I just never pictured devastation like this occuring but it does. All I knew of Josh was his photos in mags but I hope he lived an awsome life and is having fun right now whereever he is.

That goes to teach all of us to wear helmets. I see too many kids out there who think they're too cool for helmets. It could be the difference between life and death. I've always worn a helmet and I think everybody should. It should be a law.

i was just reading some articles about josh, and i was just out in vail hanging with all of his old friends and back at the shop. i miss him so much, like i am sitting here crying cause hes gone. he was such a great person, and he made such an impact on all these people. so many other kids looked up to him. he was such an amazing person, they even made a day for him out in vail, malay day. i remember him soo well its hard to beleive hes gone, like i rememebr going in and giving him shit cause he nailed a pair of seth pistols on the ceiling of the snowboard shop cause he designed them and shit, god its hard to beleive hes gone...

not to ruin the flow, but if u have ever read the warning on a helmet, it says protects to crashes lower than 14 miles an hour. if u fall and get whiplash ur head can be traveling over 100 miles an hour. just something to think about when u think a helmet is ur magical life saving device.

Its a sad fact when anyone within this community of riders passes. I didn't know Josh, nor ever met him, I have only heard of his influence, and talent. Atleast he is in a better place, and most definately throwin' down!
