Pro's seem to be dropping like flies :(

Freeskier has learned of an immeasurable loss to the skiing community. We have confirmed that Arne Backstrom, perennial freeskiing pro, 29, has passed after a big mountain fall. Although details are still unconfirmed, the accident is reported to have occurred on Pisco Mountain (5757m), in the Cordillera Blanca region of Peru, South America.

Details on the exact location and incident are unconfirmed and sketchy at this time. Family and friends are still being notified.

Our thoughts go out to the Backstrom family and to all of Arne’s friends.

As Freeskier confirms details we will post more information.

RIP. great family. Regardless of age, recognition, or ability, I am truly sad for any fallen skier that's passionate about the mountains and the sport. Hits me hard even in our only connection is shared enthusiasm
 
from Powder, Update: According to sources close to the family, Backstrom and team were in Peru to attempt a descent of Artesanraju, a 5,999 meter peak in the Cordillera Blanca region. The accident, however, took place during an acclimation day on a smaller sub-peak.

this is horrible news, arne ripped so freaking hard and had a great year. condolences to his great family. RIP
