Riding with a GoPro

The other day I was called a "one of those loser park guys" for riding with a GoPro on my helmet, so I was wondering what the NS Community thought about riding with them. Does it truly make someone a "loser park guy"?

You can wear whatever you want if your throwing down. Unfortunately people give you shit if you're not good and wearing goofy gear, like a gopro

Gopro on the very top of helmet > no view of skis > pizza instead of french fry = TELETUBBIE!!!!!!

yee I dont understand why people have to be dickheads all the time, not saying i haven't but still some people go a little over the top.

if you truely care about skiing, then the opinions of those whom you dont even know become superfluous -confucious

as a liftie, i see a lot of people skiing everyday. i must say, this year, it seems as though everyone and their mother has a go pro. i always wonder where the footage goes

I ride with mine in my pocket. I can't handle people that leave it on their head all day. Doesn't your neck get sore?

I'd say you're fine.

I saw 3 gapers this past weekend, they all had their new Hero 3's to tape their amazing runs of doing nothing

it's just an unfortunate fact of skiing that if you wear a gopro or anything else that attracts attention people are gonna hate

hopefully in the future we'll have cameras so small theyre hardly noticeable, or built sleekly into helmets. someone mentioned chest mounts which are a little less noticeable

til then you just gotta take the heat! and deal with it if you wanna get shots

The problem with the headcam footage of the park, is unless your throwing like, cork 7s or above no one wants to see anything that your going to get from your POV. Rail footage is absolutley worthless, and anyone who is watching knows what its like to ski. The one exception I would say for this would be huge back/side country with cliff drops and shit. Gopros are super useful if you have someone filming you, but 90% of the footage your going to get from your head you are never going to use.

Here's my opinion:

I ride with a go pro sometimes yet I'm just moving from the trails to the park, meaning I can't throw down quite a bit just yet, BUT I have an interest in filming and video editing. So I don't think just because you can't throw down or you're not amazing doesn't mean you can't/shouldn't wear a go pro. On the other hand, if you can't ski for your life and you don't know how to upload videos from your cam to the computer...then maybe the go pro is a bit of overkill.

POVs are pretty silly in the park, imo.

Great for pow or lines on the mtn, but relatively boring in park. (unless ur Candide, etc)

i dont have one, but personally id rather wear a gopro for pow because #1 people dont give you nearly as much shit as they would in park and #2 go pro POV shots in deep pow is basically porn

I think they are kindof lame personally. They get cool shots but they look so stupid and everyone has one these days. I saw a kid who was probably 7 with the 3d gopro thing on his helmet. That's like a grand in gopros for a 7 year old...wtf

I saw a POV of a kid named Mike Stys when he was hitting a rail and it was a quality video so

1. not sure why you would give a fuck if people look at you funny

2. not sure why people would look at you funny just for having a goPro

if they think it ok ....but if they actually say something about it they deserve to get thrown in a bush

yes its funny that a lot of people who cant ski use them but why does anyone care? whos to say you gotta be doing certain tricks to want to record yourself

I have to agree with this. The level of self consciousness among ns members borders on mental illness sometimes. Should my coat match my pants? What color helmet should I get? Do people think I look weird when I film with my gopro. Its like holy shit man just stay home in your bed if if your that concerned about it.

Look, I'm all for park skiers wearing them, it's when your filming yourself doing straights airs is when it get a little weird.

So go for it.

But on the other hand if you are making an edit sometimes they look cool as long as your video isn't all pov just my opinion
