rchard would like examples of reasons why southern alberta freestyle is beat and is the worst team ever...and also why water skimming isnt a good idea

me neither...im just making random posts now. well, southern treated me like shit and i didnt learn anything there so thats all i dislike about them

lol, yeah it did take me 5 mins to get out of the water

and maybe you would have learnd somthing if you didnt mouth off to the coaches and spent more time practicing then talking about ski movies and clothing

plus i never asked for examples of that. but you specifically asked for the examples i nthe thread about you.

you told me i had no evidence. and i really just dont give a fuck man. i shouldnt have even made that fucking thread

i dont know if you noticed or not chad, but not very many people like you. you just kind of give of the aura of gayness that nobody wants to be around.. its weird

Well maybe some people hate southern ( I dont) but there is no doubts about it, that lots of them have become real good shredders. They even got J Heil to come out to shine shine last weekend. Pretty gnarlay.

If people on southern are whinning they have no idea. They have by far the best set up of any of the teams. COP weekdays and Sunshine weekends. Seriously quit your bitchin. Me, Yves and dreb went to COP and in one day I learned more than I did in 2 weeks at Canyon. We ski 4 days a week at CANYON!!! YAY!!!! And we have it way better than most of the other teams.

You have a good park to train, A good Pipe and get to ski a good mountain all the time

noone who is on southern complains about it, we all know how lucky we are compared to other teams. pretty much anyone is calgary is really lucky actualyy

Then why the fuck wasn't she with you guys last weekend. Sorry, I said fuck.

cuz obviously the hills in emdonton stay open till late may.....

THEY didnt get her to come out you retard J Heil had a girls mogul camp and shine last weekend, it had no relation to southern.

Don't call my little nigger a retard or I will shoot you in the face. you dont know who your mess'n with.

Dont call my big Nigger master you little stink...

Well Cleary it was an all girl camp put on by J Heil, but seeing as how half or more of the girls in that camp rode for southern, it wouldnt surpirse me to learn that there was atleast some affiliation with Southern.

Take off, and quit acting like a Smart Alec.

If it were up to me, I would do away with all these freestyle teams period. Yes they have done wonders for some and gave them chances and opportunities that they would have never had otherwise, but for others, possibly those without the money, support, time or close proximity to or for one, it also took chances away. Just my thoughts. What are yours?

I think whatever chad hates I support. Believe me buddy, it wasnt Southern which made you a bad skier. You did that shit all yourself. You fucking suck.

I agree... I dont think that it ever took opportunities away, but for some the opportunities were just never there.

It was probably before your guy's time, and it might still be an issue now, but just as a start and only one example:

When the first competitions were occuring in Alberta, they were run entirely by ABfreestyle. Ok good right, we need a governing body? However, immediately rules were made, that yet again took the free out of freestyle. Unless... you went to wateramps and qualified your jumps. As in, over the summer, you had to go to the ramps, do these tricks into the water, and then somebody (probably with an aerials background or way of thinking) told you whether you could land that trick or not. Because you know, water acts the same way as snow. However, this was only for inverts.

One was allowed to spin in the competitions, but 5-6 years ago, spinning wasnt really the thing. Furthermore, spinning isnt any less dangerous, and Im pretty sure I have seen more people in comps hurt themselves on spins than on getting inverted.

Well, while Im at it. A team also made it easiers for sponsors to find the kids. I do believe teams have a team sponsor as well (correct me if I'm wrong) but basically being on a team allowed you to have your name out there a lot easier and snatch up any potential sponsors, although they maybe werent the "best" for the job.

Things may have changed somewhat now, but I also dont pay as much attention to it.

Skiing, like everything, is about politics and this is largely implemented through and furthered by teams. The teams are under abfreestyle, and that, finally is under FIS.

*this is not a hate FIS thread, merely trying to back up my point. I dont necessarily think FIS is good though.

I think it still is an issue now, but alot of what I've seen the last two years, is that Southerns program is geared more towards younger kids... So all the older kids seem pretty excited to leave.. Im not entirely sure if thats true, and how the team members feel about it, but I do know a few senior members, and they seem to feel that way, not all of them though...

I do wish that I got into that program earlier on, but up into about 4 years ago, I thought the only "freestyle" training I was going to get was in Extreme Kids Club at Fernie.... And I was the oldest kid in that program at 14. And needles to say, after 3 years of that and being the oldest every year, I was done like dinner.

Also being on that team does get your name out there at a very young age. There are several prime examples. Im not even going to give them because they pretty much should be so evident anyway.. I think Southern is rad and builds good skiers.

yeah there were so many 11 year kids on southern last year. but we reworked it i think so we never even ski with them. and most of us are pretty happy to stay on southern, the only people who are exited to leave are the ones going to the AB team

I do hate the way FIS runs things and there's been lots of insurance issues over the past while but honestly being on a team doesn't really get your name out there more than if you're on a team. Potential sponsors don't go and find out who is on a freestyle team or not and they could really care less

Yeah, you could be shit and be on a team granted and you won't get noticed sure.. But If you are good, then being on a team, travelling to semi-major contests around Alberta and BC will get you noticed... I mean, potential sponsors don't follow kids around sunshine and Lake Louise, they go to contest stops..

There isn't one person I knew whose ever been picked up at an RCR rail jam or big air contest, but I think it would be pretty safe for me to say that there was probably a whole pile of kids whove been noticed at National and Provincial events who have been part of teams in the last few years. Face it, kids on teams have good opportunities, but the only way they'll get anywhere anyway is by being rad, and teams can't provide that, only the individual can.

noone gives a shit about provincials. Im pretty sure its safe to say sponsors dont pick up kids at a provincial comp.

and for most sponsors, nationals dot really matter much either

Ok then sir. You beat Me. But it does trouble me when Southern kids don't realize what they have and when other poeple say good stuff about their program, atleast some form of gratitude should be in order.

And hooo boy, Im really fighting the urge to say mean things, but how then do Southern kids everywhere seem to have either sponsors or grassroots sponsors. Most of them are good riders, but you can't tell me that the reps from companies follow them around all day. Where do the sponsors congregate then? How do all these kids get picked up and get free skis? This year there isn't an insane amount of talent anyway (with the excpetion of a few). So what are these kids doing to get picked up? If it's not the contests, than its surely contest results. Ahhh, FOOOIIEE. Im done this.

Im finishing this off with a "I wish I joined Southern when I had the chance to" sigh......

What I said there, Im really meaning to say, "

Out of the kids that have gotten picked up by sponsors, most of them are good riders,"

hmm not really. Infact I'd say there's more at RCRs and stuff than provincials. Pretty much you have to go to them they aren't just gonna come and find you.

well i never said southern didnt help get kids sponsors. i said sponsors dont pick up kids at provincials, lol. rcr comps are way more important. but alot of our coaches can tell there sponsors about kids, and give them exposure.

and we all know how lucky we are
