you dont have to read the first half of this if you dont want.

i honestly never believed i would be making one of these threads. i always thought i was too smart to end up as one of the many 12 year old newschoolers members making threads like "MY MOM CAUGHT ME SMOKIN WEED AND TOLD THE POLICE HOW FUCKED AM I??" but here i am, furiously and rapidly googling various queries in hopes of some form of help. as hard as i try, i cant find any concrete answers.

anyways.

first of all, im 17, i live in new york state, and i still have a junior license. but i turn 18 in 9 days.

about 2 months ago i got a ticket for failure to yield at a stop sign. basically, i pulled out too early, a cop saw it, i got in trouble. i didn't fight, i just paid the $135 because i honestly just thought it would be easier than pleading not guilty and going back and forth to court and shit. i also got a ticket for non-inspected vehicle. another $135, which the court made me pay anyways even though i had my truck inspected the next day and brought in proof of it to court. (fuck you new york state. fuck you)

today i got a letter in the mail informing me that my license is suspended for 60 days.(fucking sweet right?) starting the 17th of next month, its illegal for me to drive. for 60 days. those other two tickets are the only two i have ever received and my only contacts with law enforcement EVER. i have only have 3 points on my license. im a sophomore in college with two jobs and i live 20 miles from the nearest town. there is not public transport where i live. fuck.

can any of you explain to me why my license was suspended? is there any way i can take this to court and fight it? why didnt the judge i paid my fines to mention something about this to me?

i just realized i spelled advice wrong in the title.

so sorry for that.

also i skipped my senior year and started college when i was 16.

but for real, if anyone knows why my license got suspended and if there is anything i can do about it...

can you apply for an exception? If you lose your license here and you need it to get to work/school etc you can apply to have it reinstated for travelling to/from those specific places

Look into a "safe driving" class/course offered by the state. In most cases, if you take the class for like a week, it will remove points from your license, and possibly getting your license back earlier. My girlfriend has lost her license twice in the course of a few years from a mountain of speeding ticket violations. These classes are what saved her.

i think its cuz u live 20miles away from a city and have no public transit.

but actually, that fuckin sucks... motorcycle license? one weekend and you can drive by urself.

I know someone from by where we live who also received two very large speeding tickets in your same situation with a junior license, never got suspended. By the way it's suspended not revoked. In this position you should be able to drive to work and school but only work and school. Contact the DMV and find out what's up, better yet wait in line and pay a visit because this sounds a bit ridiculous. Rolling a stop sign and getting an inspection ticket, pleading guilty, anddddd paying them on time is not grounds for suspension... EVEN IN NY! haha

I hope you're doing something baller like med, law or engineering.

And id hit up the state, sometime if you go to court and pled you case, they'll give you permission to just drive to school/work and if you get caught otherwise, you're fucked.

i just got my license suspended for 90 days and my car impounded for a month. super stoked about it.

yes it is sucks when you have a jr in ny state you cant drive for 60 or 90 day i dont remeber. You should have gone to court and made a plee.

sorry for got to say with a jr class in ny any violation like speeding running a red light ANYTHING is a 60 to 90 day . where you cant drive and you will get you license taken away if you if you caught driving. once your 18 3 speeding ticket and you get you license taken away again

The courts wont be able to tell you anything, you are going to have to go to the DMV to ask them about it. Drivers licence revocations are totally separate from the court system. They will tell you why it is suspended and when you can get it back and also if you are able to have a hearing to get it back early. Good luck, sounds shitty, I can't get my licence back till april if it makes you feel better...

All I can say is if this suspension sticks, do NOT drive anyone's car under any circumstances. My friend drove my car to the store to get food, got stopped at a police checkpoint because the front headlight was out. Car got immediately impounded for 60 days. Cost around 800$ for the impound and cop fees to get it back. And that was him driving MY car

Wow ohio sounds ffff-d up! haha

Just kidding. I think the lesson here is that you should probably at the very least talk to a lawyer, usually free or cheap, I talked to a school lawyer that was like 25 bucks for 2 sessions, not too bad. They will tell you exactly how everything works in your state and most colleges have a student legal center. Go talk to them if you get a chance.

Seeing as you seem to be a smart kid, I'd make a plee and see if you can get the drive from home to school/work deal.

also what is a "point" on your license? In Minnesota we don't have that.

Yeah what is a "point". We don't have that in washington. It's hella chill here, my 17 year old friend got a DUI and it was only a 90 day suspension

Think of a point as "strike". In certain states you get so many "points" before your license is suspended. Usually you get points on your license if you have a moving violation, speeding, wreckless driving, running a stop sign, red light, etc.

Naw but in all seriousness, I lost my permit for 3 months because of minor D&D, I blew .036 but the law wanted me at .000 so I got pulled over and they told me I was gonna lose my license 3 months, then I recieve a letter saying another sanction ( in french, at least) applied and I lost it for another 2 months and 22 days. I have it back since a month or something, its awesome, sont worry you'll manage through it.

I live in NYS and had plenty of tickets, suspended licenses etc.. when I was young and stupid.

You can apply for a conditional license or a restricted license from the DMV. It costs like 50 bucks. Its woth a shot, but being that you only have your junior license it might be a problem. The DMV website has all the rules regarding it but the best thing to do is just go to the DMV.

I took my chances and always drove with a suspended license and ended up in a viscous cycle of tickets, court dates etc... It sucked and I paid thousands of dollars in fines and lawyer fees. One of the biggest mistakes of my life. It took forever to get it all straightened out.

Oh and you dont need a lawyer for DMV issues unless you have a DWI, suspended license ticket or other tickets that are actually a misdeamanor and not a driving ticket so dont waste your money.
