Hey,

does anyone know when the expected completion date for the gondola at Revelstoke will be? I know they are supposed to be starting construction this year....

Cheers

2007 there will be a gondola on mount mac from bottom to top....its a huge mountain compared to everything else ive seen with a ski hill on it

6 grand vert at revelstoke with 600 inches of pow sounds like a wet dream with a supermodel. I can't find any good links that show or tell any details of revelstoke's new ski hill. Does it really get 40 to 60 feet of snow every year? The combination of vert and pow sound out of sight.

I have been toying around with the idea of liquidating and relocating. I like the sound of this area. It almost sounds too good to be true. 6000' vert 25 new lifts over the next 5 years?? what? nearly 500" annual snow fall. Construction and lots of it will be needed.

It seems that Canada is putting a lot into these areas to attract tourism. What do you all think?

ok - it's not Canada that's making all this devoplment happen. it's the BC govt. Like two or three years ago the BC govt said they want to double outdoor recreation in the provence. that is why they have been fast tracking ski hill development (well, mostly condos and not so much ski hill). They fast tracked Jumbo (which is now up to the local invermere people to decide if it goes ahead, Revelstoke got the green light. Red Mountain is in the middle of a big hotel/condo development. as well as cat and heli operations opening up.

now I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I think I can confidently say that most of you agree with me when I question the development that's going on around the provence. I mean - do WE really need Jumbo?

anyways, if you want info on Revelstoke go to www.skirevelstoke.com

Ah yes.... NIMBY - Not In My Back Yard..... If you have lived there and love the wide open spaces and despise development I can see your point of view. I on the other hand want to find that place for the second half of my life to call home.

What is Jumbo, more specifically?

Jumbo could be the biggest and best ski hill ever (In North America).

It lies in the middle of the Purcell Mountains just west of Invermere (keep going west from Pano). Currently the RK Heli (or whatever the name of the heli operation out of Pano is) Operation claims control over the area (in the summer the Canadian race team used the glacier for training). The reason why people want to put a ski hill there is because it's got the vert, it's got the glaciers, but it also has what most ski hills in B.C. are lacking - high elevation. while the bass of most ski hills in BC sit around 1000m and go to around 2000m, Jumbo will be more like 2000m bass and 3000m summit. So in these days of Global Warming and whatnot - sounds like just the thing we need.

But then if you really think about it - it's one of the last truely untouched areas left in southern british columbia, it's home to a few Grizzlies, the access is there to go touring whenever you please, if you have the cash you can get a heli up there... and with ski hills around bc not getting the visits they should and could get, Jumbo could hurt other hills more then help the overall ski industry in Canada. I donno, I'm just not sure if I'm ready to see that area turn into another resort swarming with foreign tourists being all touristy...

^^^ That is really good info. Thanks! Revelstoke seems to be a lot farther head in development than Jumbo... My oldest kid says he wants to do it. I explained it is "out there"..
