Rest In Peace, 7 Springs Terrain Parks

Let's hope that since 7springs was purchased solely for 7springs that they will at least have some funding for a park.

They bought it for Pittsburgh. They would have bought a pile of shit if it meant getting access to that population.

They got 17 for 264 million when they bought peak.

And the Sackler family got something like $100 million in cash out of the deal right before they had their asses taken to court for the opioid case settlement.

Freedom lift has been broken for like three years now with no sign of repair in sight. Doesnt even matter anymore though cause Vail REMOVED FREEDOM PARK FROM THE MOUNTAIN COMPLETELY...

When did they get rid of freedom park? Last season it still had features.

Over the summer they announced in a mass email of some sort they were changing the trail marking, hence, removing the "park" from "freedom park"

Interesting. On their website the trail map still has all the original parks

Vail is buying up everyone. I first learned to ski at Roundtop in PA. Looking at it recently, saw it was bought out. Oh well.

Anyone got an update on this? How’s it looking this year

Honestly looking good as of right now. They are blowing more snow than Nutting would have, and they are keeping the alley alive. The only thing we have yet to see is if they'll run the rope tow or not.

I sure hope they don't ruin the park here. For the scale of resort, 7 springs has a pretty epic park usually. It's not like opening those trails to normal skiing would make any drastic difference anyway.

They’ve done a great job so far obviously we will have to see if it continues throughout the season. Can’t tell a difference in the parks at all. The backside of the mountain has one trail open right now and it’s the alley, a terrain park if you’re not familiar. They are dedicating a lot of resources to update the parks frequently.

Their main park guy I either gone or on the way out. Just FYI. Surprised he lasted this long under Vail.

It’s like they’re allergic to people who know how to manage and build a successful and profitable park program, makes no sense to me why they keep doing this everywhere they purchase

Devil's advocate here but this is just becomming a "standard" at lots of ski areas owned by mega corps. Passionate people who love their jobs get ran into the ground and deal with unrealistic demands and expectations and inability to take care of their workers cuz of piss poor budgeting.

Not only that but keeping somebody that is good and has a passion for parks is nearly impossible in PA. Usually has to be something else non job related keeping them from going somewhere with longer season/better snow to work with.

One thing I’ve noticed this year is that the entrance and exit for the park have fences in front of them now. I guess the point is to slow people down? Really just ends up being a choke point for crowds and the fences get torn to shreds from ppl jumping or tapping them.

It’s a vail classic to have fences everywhere

It’s a wage thing. Vail has a scale. You need to fit into the scale. You also need to drink the kool aid and be devoted to their brand. If not, they know there is someone else next in line that will, for cheaper.

They put a horizontal fence facing uphill to access the park. It’s the equivalent of a 28 car pileup on a freeway.

oh they are gonna have an “epic” park aka no park.

*idk anything about what vail will do but seems like theyre gonna be lame about it*

there's that gaper trap NSers sometimes claim they want at the park entrance!

Haven’t been back to springs for years since I moved but was curious as to how the vail takeover would go. from what I’ve seen on the gram though the alley looked pretty on par with what we’ve had at bachelor the last couple weeks. Unfortunately I’m sure all the new powers that be aren’t in place yet but I was happy to see yinz still got a full alley setup t2b opening weekend with hardly any snow.

Santa’s beard just opened too with tow rope, honestly surprised with how the parks are holding up after the takeover. They even have an event with Red Gerard popping up on Jan 6 so it doesn’t look like they’re shying away from the park scene. If only Big Boulder could have gotten the same treatment.
