I've just been arguing with a dude at 2am on a Thursday morning and I realised that there's one thing that pisses me off almost more than any other thing on earth. People who won't respect another person's opinion. I try to hold the utmost respect for someone else's morals/opinions and when someone doesn't hold that same respect back it fucks me off. Sorry, just a little agro at the moment, rrrrr, what do you guys reckon. I know Jay will have something good to say here, and Matty and Stevie and Andy, fuck, everyone will, haha, bring it lads.

Hmmmmmm, if it really important (ie: religion, politics), then, perhaps, its less a matter of facts and rational reasoning, and more a matter of identity. Religion and political afilitaion are personal matters, that vary to such huge and radical degrees person-to-person, that they are in fact, part of the person and how they see their role in the world.

I personally believe that no one should talk about religion. Its not for anyone else's business. Its your own beliefs and their own beliefs are theirs. One person doesn't agree with the other, try to tell each other whos is more important or whatnot....then war.

I slightly disagree on the everyone should just automatically have respect. I mean it's obvious there is the normal social respect but I beleive that people have to earn the true respect. But when they have my respect it's full and loyal.

Yeah,I agree with Detective. Respect is something you almost always have to earn. In Tim's case though someone who can't respect someone else's opinion is naive and probably can't win an argument without resorting to name calling and second grade crap anyway.

I think everyone should be respected as a person. Respect as a superior person is a different story, but as a human, everyone has a right to think and believe as they choose.

I hate to disappoint you Tim, but at the moment, I don't really have much to add other than I agree with you.

i personally think that there should be no more taboos. let's just talk openly about everything, and accept that different people have different opinions and beliefs. this is how we can all progress as people. listen to others and expand our minds.

 
Ok, yah, respect. Respect is very important, and it's important. However, in a way, any sort of... discussion or debate in a way is going against respect, but it's in a respectful manner. Stating your opinions, and trying to PERSUADE someone to change their views is respectful. However... tyring to force the opinions onto others... is disrespectful. It's a thinnline, and you hage to be careful in debates and discussions... just try tho.

yeah, good shit guys, werd to what everyone said aye. I agree with whoever said that we should all be able to just open up and have a huge ass discussion about anything and everything with anyone and not have to worry about being flamed or blasted or have mud thrown at us and stuff like that. To clear up what I said earlier, I don't think that everyone should have total and utter respect for someone just like that. I think that respect needs to be earned and grown over time. I do think that there is a certain level of respect that should be held towards anyone just for their opinions etc. my 0.02

I hope you guys are right... I think I just tested it;) But seriously, I have respect for everybody until... well, until nothing. respect is a kind of aura that even two arch rival hockey teams have for each other. Boxers respect each other. I respect athiests.

I don't think they're right, but I still respect them, but that's another thread ;) have I told you lately that I love you guys? dwdw

Respect is a valuable thing... if you can't respect somebody then you arent much of a person at all. When you disagree with somebody's opinion, you shut your mouth and let them think what they want. It is a different story when opinion changes to what they think is right. When somebody has an opinion it is what they think. If I said, in my opinion the sky is red. Well, what would you say to me? Hopefully nothing much bad because taht is my opinion, and hell, maybe i do see the sky as red. An opinion is an opinion. nothing more. Respect comes along with your opinoin. You should respect others' opinoins' if you want yours to be respected. Everyone deserves respect. Of course complete respect must be earned, but everyone deserves a chance. So next time somebody says something that u disagree with, remember that its what they think. It may not be wrong, it may not be right, or it might veen be the dumbest thing you've ever heard, but whatever it is, have the decency to respect them.

Respect should be given to a persons thoughts/ideas if they feel strongly about, er, um, their thoughts/ideas. This stands (for me) unless someone is either really ignorant or stupid about what they are talking about. I get pissed when my freind bashes most of my music, even when I back it up explaining the lyrics or message, why I like them etc. Still he bashes my other freinds and my music, even though I like some of his music, as well as many other types of music, not just one gaundra (sp?). The funniest thing is that he listens to rap 90%, and 10% dance. But wait, theres more, HES WHITE! He totally mocks my music, legitimate stuff that a lot of ppl on this site likes, while he goes on to listen to gangsta rap and all that shit. He also acts like a racist 10% of the time, I dont know if its a joke or not.

The colour that the sky is perceived to be is a fact not an opinion. If somebody told me that the sky was red I would tell them that it is actually seen as blue. I would show them the proof of how the light refracts, and what we see is blue.

I'm not saying I disagree with you, I'm just saying your example wasn't the best. There is a difference between fact and opinion, and if somebody had the facts wrong, I would respect that they were misinformed or they misinterpretated something, but I would correct them. It wouldn't be right to let someone believe that a house is something that people wear on their feet.

speaking of light refraction and shit for the sky to be blue, if we moved closer or farther from the sun, and the air composition changed, would it be possible to have a differently colored sky??? that would be nuts.

and also, i think to be respected, you have to respect people back. or first. whatever.

I'm not sure about this, but I think its has more to do with the actual composition of teh atmosphere; dust, debris and protective layers like Ozone or whatever.
