Required Classes

I have to give a speech for english about required classes. I have to talk about why fine art, gym and foreign language classes should not be required but still offered for those who choose to take them. I agree that they shouldnt be required allowing kids to focus on what interests them or taking AP classes rather than wasting time playing dodgeball, making a clay pot or learning a few words of a different language that they will forget and not use in a few years. Any ideas on what to talk about or points to make to prove my view. Thx +k for good help

Not gonna lie, throwing pots and smearing kids in high school was way funner than my ap classes. Also its high school, ap classes hardly take any time up anyways. I suppose the language one is good though. I took 3 jarhen of Deutsch and hardly remember any of it. Most schools only seem to require like 1-2 credits of each class so by junior year you can be done with those extra classes anyways and focus on those harder ap classes if you want.

write your paper on how school is bullshit and you wish you created ns because youd have plenty of advertising $$ and wouldnt need a real job

Write about how eliminating those BS required classes, students can graduate high school with more real-world preparation because they're taking more relevant courses, or they're taking more APs, further preparing them. Also, APs can save college students over two semesters of work, or a whole year of tuition and other expenses, also putting them out in the working world a year earlier. APs saved me a semester and around $15k, or I'll pay the same cost for a double major as I would've had to with just a major and no minor if not for AP credit.

Write a paper on how poorly phys. ed. is taught in public schools and how it results in many children unable to properly do many skills like throwing and catching, and why thorough conversational language classes from a young age are important for the globalized economy.

I'll admit, I remember very little from my french classes, but going to school in Ottawa with a huge international community it really sheds a light on how ignorant a lot of people are and makes me wish I had another language or two under my belt. And after coaching and teaching nordic skiing, its astonishing how poorly developed some children's motor skills are. Rather than eliminating classes that have a hope of developing such skills in children because right now they seem futile, we should try and encourage better teaching so that the classes aren't a waste.

Ya i started my university with 27concurrent enrollment and 9 ap credits. Thats over 2 semesters of work out of my way. (unfortunately my math 105/106 doesnt count for my major so it will end up being elective credit.

i also have had quite a good time but i would have had more fun just not having a class or taking an AP and having more time in college, also my friends and i have always gotten 4.0 or better and just last semester one of us got a b in an art class, this will then possibly hinder him later on for a silly class that has nothing to do with him

Another one of these threads I don't get.

The speech is about your opinion. I'm not you. Just write it about whatever you feel. Regardless of what you think back it up with some facts and you're golden.

Do your homework kids. Jesus.

if you think you're done taking bullshit required classes when you finish high school, you're in for a real treat in college...

This so much.

Although, I wouldn't say bullshit. I think it's part of what make a person well rounded.

I do think the should make a personal finance or whatever you call it class mandatory. I had the option of taking something like this where we had to plan out a year budget on a small income and do fake taxes and all sorts of stuff. Was crazy useful.
