I just watched Requiem for a Dream, and I must say, what a crazy fucking movie. Not trying to start a "cool story Hansel" thread or anything like that but I'm just curious about a part in the movie. at 1:11 in the video below, what are those two bars around her head and what do they do? Judging by how she turned out in the end, I imagine it messes with your brain somehow.

i watched that movie at 10am on a rainy day. After the movie stopped i stared at my wall for 30 mins, i didn't do jack shit that day. That movie is so depressing

To answer your question its called electro-shock therapy.
IT used to be used all the time for all kinds of psychological problems. It's still used, but mostly as a last result. It basically just makes you numb completely.

OP, the treatment you are asking about is called Electroconvulsive Therapy. (Also known as Electroshock Therapy) It has been used to treat psychiatric problems.

Maybe you should do some more research on it dude because it does not "just basically make you numb completely." However it usually is used as a last resort if patients are not responding to other drug therapy.
