Republican takes Ted Kennedys Senate Seat

The House and Senate love themselves so much that it took them 2 centuries and a couple decades to get a salary amendment in place.

Yeah, sorry. But to have an Amendment proposed back in the late 1700s and not have it passed until the late 1990s is fucking pathetic.

im 15, keep that in mind when you tear my ignorant statements to shit
i dont know much about the healtchcare reform, just to have that out of the way. i do know that many people in MA where not willing to be pay more for the countries public option, when we do have one that is just as good, if not better then what obamas was shoving down our, and by our i mean my parents and all other 18+ citizen thorat (once again, this could be very wrong, i just know it is very similar to obama's)
our healthcare system works great for us, so no one wants to spend money on the countries plan
i hear people often saying healthcare reform is necessary, but that now is not the time for it
and to OP, Brown, although expressing many Republican views, is still not necessarily a Republican, sure, he opposed the democratic healthcare bill, and wants tax cuts, but there are also a number of beliefs he has that would lead on astray of the idea that he is a Republican
and in MA, where a large number of voters call themselves independent, this has helped him immensely

so give me a mutually equitable solution?

PS stealing from me so you can be charitable with the money; is the very antithesis of charity.

you dont have a right to my property, sorry.

like it or not, there will never be economic equality. some people have more to offer than others.

can we have a political forum on NS just to keep this shit out of non-ski gabber. im tired of looking at a bajillion threads about either politics, global warming, or how Obama is the antichrist.

i've lost the will to argue with people on NS

a) please tell me what plan of obamas you would be forced to be on.

b) please tell me how on gods green earth our healthcare system works great for us

Justin's dream society is currently full. sorry.

I can however put you on a waiting list.

this is the oath that is required to gain citizenship.

I am going to get in bed, get some popcorn, cuddle up with my Snoopy, and now watch... this thread is going places.

I havnt weighed in on politics on NS recently but.... our healthcare system is fucked.

No here's some backround info. At the begining of the year i had a meeting with the owner of my compnay to talk about health care options. Now i work for a locally owned Vermont family based business, specializing in footwear and apparel. We sell mostly work boots and work clothing, but also carry winter boots, and sandals in the summer. It has been around for 19 years and sales have been increasing by 10% for the last 5 years i have worked there. They have 4 different locations, employ 20 full timers(that get healthcare) and sales(not profits) are about 4 million a year.

Now, this past year because of the economy, less people had their houses reshingled, or painted, or new roofs. Because of this, we sold less work boots, and jackets. This past year our sales were down 6%. Not a huge loss but when you had been up 10% the last few years it is a difference of 16% from your forcasted sales. Now in the past year the cost of healthcare has gone up 20% and is expected to double in the next 2-3 years if nothing changes.

I was told this may be the last year they can afford to offer health benifits to their employees. So what will happen if i can not get health insurance from my employeer? I will have to sign up for the state funded health insurance. How many other people will have to do this as well? More people on state healthcare increase state taxes.

I know im not offering a solution here, but i am presenting the problem to alot of these kids that dont know what is going on untill they graduate and realize their parents healthcare doesnt cover them anymore, and that big job they just landed cant afford health insurance either.

Just so you know, in ANY other developed country with a healthcare system as fucked as yours, this reform would be voted and accepted by 80% or more...

But yeah I guess USA is USA.

I'll post this link again just so the people saying US healthcare system is top notch shut their mouth.

Pandas; terrible animal, or worst animal ever.

your rebuttal.

Seriously, I know the viewpoints of everyone in this thread, and they know mine, so I already know the stat, middle and end of this debate.

My opinions:

Everyone has the right to pursue a happy and productive life regardless of place of birth, social status, or income.

Government works.

Public servants should act more like servants.

Obama is doing a fine job as president.

The bible is bull shit.

Power corrupts.

I believe in trying to better the future, and not try to recapture the past.

Pandas are terrible at surviving and if they were not cute they would be dead.

The snow sucks this year in Colorado.

The more I learn the less I realize I know.

Flight attendants do nothing; "Thanks for smashing my elbows with your giant cart to bring me 4oz of sprite on my 4 hour flight, you are a dream. I wish this was the 1960's then at least you would be hot and not a gay dude."

Silver is a terrible investment and only partially retarded people would ever consider it profitable.

while it is true, there is no shortage of gay flight attendants. (or bitchy flight attendants, seriously all they do is set in the back and bitch the entire flight, unless they are getting me my coke:) (i fly quite a bit) 4 or 5 flights ago i did have an incredibly hot flight attendant.

you just gotta hope you get lucky. haha

flight attendants are great if you are assertive
Flight attendant: do you have any trash?Me: Yes, here you go, and I want 4 more of those twix bars, thanks.

Last time I was on a plane I was reading when they did the safety briefing. The flight attendant stopped her speech, walked back to my chair and snapped my book closed. Fuck them and their worthless job.

haha so true.

i will take a CAN of coke, and peanuts please. haha

even better, slip in that your dad up in the cockpit. why thankyou, yes, ide love another can of pop, o there is a first class meal left over, ide love it, thanks.

you should have said, yes mam. i have kept in mind that the closest exit may be behind me. i do know that track lighting will illuminate the floor, and i understand that i should put on my oxy mask before assisting others.

how rude on her part. haha

I keep my headphones in and when they ask me to take them out, I pretend I can't hear, and then I tell them that the Ipod is indeed in the off position.

not necessarily advocating it, but things like healthcare aim to make a more equitable country...

i understand your "property" argument, but people that are smart and work hard given the right conditions will usually be successful, meaning that whether or not people "steal" (not really stealing) from you for healthcare and such, it will possibly provide a slightly better life for the least fortunate, while the most upper middle class and upper class people will probably stay where they are. Its not like a business man in Canada is some lazy piece of shit who isn't willing to do work. Personally, I don't understand why republicans don't advocate things like universal healthcare, then they could really slam the poor and such when they don't all succeed

dude its absolutely ridiculous how conservatives spout party propaganda so consistently. unfortunately, your arguments are full of logical fallacies. a couple examples; if you have a right to my things, then i am your slave---slippery slope. the entire post is a red herring.
please think about the issue in front of you and comment what you actually think about that particular issue; don't give us a standard, spoon-fed conservative answer to everything

As long as healthcare is private, companies are not trying to make you healthier, they are trying to increase shareholder wealth.

By dumping money in to research and development to create new drugs, treatments and equipment to get patents or royalties while simultaneously increasing their ability to save lives.

research and development into what? another way to get a boner? I read somewhere on the internet(iknow it must be true) that more money is spent on developing drugs for errectile disfunction then most forms of cancer. Ill look for the exact article in a bit.

not really, most of their "research" is either bought or based on studies done by academics at universities... good researchers don't work for corporations --> read "the organization man"

first off, i am not simply spouting party principals. im not a card carrying republican, im actually probably father right then most republicans / conservatives. however i also share many liberal tendencies, such as pot should be legal, gay people should be afforded the same legal rights as straight couples, you get the idea. let me rephrase that, its not so much that they are liberal or conservative polices, rather they are rational policies.

second, someone who works for the benefit of others is that person, or persons, is their slave. you can be a slave to a king / ruler. you can also be a slave to the group / tribe. but make no mistake, whether you are working for the benefit of the king, or the group, you are their slave.

lets digest what you are saying, man has a right to his things. but be careful, man is not automatically given a right to "things" rather he has a right to take the actions necessary to accumulate the things it takes for him to survive. you dont have a right to food, but you do have a right to take the actions (within the law) to provide food for yourself, your family, and whomever you deem worthy of the effort it took you to produce that food.

rights are a moral sanction of a positive, and my rights impose no negative on you. my rights do not lay claim to your work. because if i did lay claim to your work, then your rights would be violated. because we both have the right to sustain ourselves, and prosper (if we so choose)

the man that produces for the purpose of others to dispose, is their slave. i dont produce for others to redistribute, and give as charity, i produce for myself.

ill end this with a brief couple sentence explanation why healthcare is not a right. the reason healthcare is not a right is because by claiming it as a right, you make the doctors, nurses, whomever, your slave. you do NOT have a right to other peoples work. you are free to trade your best for their best, but you dont trade your worst for their best.

"No man can have a right to impose an unchosen obligation, an unrewarded duty or an involuntary servitude on another man. There can be no such thing as “the right to enslave.”"

but there i go not thinking for myself and obviously am just repeating what i hear on fox news.

its not spoon fed its the truth. Please tell me how taxing my parents more and giving THEIR hard earned money to some man in Alabama so he can get his jaw put back together because of the 40 years he has been chewing tobacco?

explain to me how its not stealing to forcibly take from myself, and distribute it to you, or anyone else.

where are you getting the whole "its not like a business man from canada is a lazy sack of shit"

im not following you on that front.

Republicans are for healthcare reform, just not one with a socialist tint to it like obamas. They had stated on multiple occasions that they want Obama to sit down and write up a completely different bill with members of both parties. Obama did not want to compromise with republicans which is the basis of our political system

excuse my little fouxpas.

my rights, do not demand action, or an obligation from you. other than that you respect my right to : my life, (no murder), my liberty, (i am free, both from government and my fellow man), and my right to the property i have created.

these rights do not require you to go out and produce so that i can consume.

mull this over.

"Thus, for every individual, a right is the moral sanction of a positive—of his freedom to act on his own judgment, for his own goals, by his own voluntary, uncoerced choice. As to his neighbors, his rights impose no obligations on them except of a negative kind: to abstain from violating his rights."

votes at midnight on christmas eve, trying to get it done very fast
i am talking about the MA healthcare, not the nations, romneycare

i guess healthcare and the reasons to support it are rooted in an ideology so far from the one you possess that it will never make sense to you, it really has to do with at least somewhat caring about your fellow human being, its not like healthcare is going to do anything that adverse to me as an upper middle class person, however it will have most likely have a profound effect for poorer people.

what i was saying about the business man is that even with a certain level of socialization successful people will still be successful, while providing some with a slightly better life style.

i love how according to conservatives every person who doesnt have insurance is a lazy sack of shit. apparently there are 46 million really lazy people in this country. its amazing how anything gets done with that many lazy folks
