does anybody know j/w if anybody knows a rep do you know if they rep just one company or rep many companies i was always wondering this?

i thought there was only one universal rep that appeared when you clicked your skis together three times

depends on the sustainability and size of the company. for example the salomon reps only work within that brand, thanks to the fact that it is a 4 seasons company. skiing, both downhill and cross country, rolleblading, hiking, etc. many reps also carry more than one line, often with companies that are loosely affiliated. for example, the armada rep for the province of quebec also carries joystick. likewise, many reps also cover golf in the summer with brand names that are within the same family as their winter product. very rarely will you see one rep taking care of competing brands, although it does tend to happen in other industries, namely footwear.

hmm. well i know that in my area the line rep is also the fischer rep, and the volkl rep is also the siver rep.

ya, it depends on what the company is carrying, like rossignol, you couldn't pick up something like skis or anything, you can pick up like goggles and stuff but not what the company is already selling.

Somebody kind soul help me out and please tell me what "j/w" means?

Christ. Is it that difficult to type out "just wondering" so people know what you're talking about?

I was an associate rep for K2 for 6 years, so I can tell you how it works.

You typically are your own company meaning you don't work directly for say K2. You represent them sales wise.

so you are able to rep other companies such as Level Gloves or an outerwear company.

Other company's such as Salomon. The reps are company employees meaning they cannot rep other lines.

make sense??

In house repping is so snobby. It's all about being independent.

usually reps stick to 'hard goods' (skis, boots, bindings, poles) or 'soft goods' (apparel, gloves, hats, etc.) if they are carrying more than one brand. The retailers usually have a different buyer for hard goods and soft goods, so different appointments at the trade shows. Often female buyers for the soft goods and males for the hard goods.

the reps most often have multiple brands that they rep, non-competing, but complimenting each other.

usually starts with you having been in the business before with that company of something, not always but it severely does help, repping jobs are super hard to get.

I've found many reps to be assholes actually. My best friend is a rep for Elan/Dolomite and smith, he offered to hook me up with anything I wanted this year but I declined because I'm not a fan of Elan. I worked as a ski instructor so I got the names of all the reps and called up the Volkl rep to get me a pair or Karmas. He was a total asshole and said he only gives proform discounts to his friends, which is bullshit. So I had someone else that was friends with him buy my karmas, then give them to me. what a fucker

For me, I started as a shop bitch when I was about 15. I pulled file, waxed demo skis, took out the trash and sold gear for about 4 years.

While helping a few sales reps at a end of season demo (around March 04) I put off a good impression, and was told by 2 companys (Dynastar + Rossi) to put a resume in for a summer position at mt hood working in race services. So I did, and went through interviewing processes with both companys. Rossignol was going through a restructure, and was not sure on who was going to work at hood, so I took the job with dynastar.

I pulled file all last summer at hood, which was the shit. I was 19, skiing every day all summer, and tuning skis in the afternoon, all summer long. I met alot of important people, and through those people I got a full time position with Rossignol as a Marketing/Promotions Rep for the Northeast.

So, needless to say, it takes a lot of shit work (taking trash out at ski shops) to get the job, but it is possible.

all you do is travel....a "sales rep" drives (depending on area) 10s of thousands of miles a year. My roomate put about 30k on his truck last year alone. So yeah you get to travel to all sorts of exotic retail stores in crappy towns.... You pay for all you own travel (that is your job)...but the more your on the road the more product you sell...etc...

Depending on the company you will also have some fun retreats throughout the season...sales meetings, vegas trade shows and the like....but that is also work so its not all 40s and strippers (just a bit)....

If your a "pro rep" or a "tech rep" you dont travel anywhere cause you cant affort shit...if your lucky you get to hook some friends up with some deals and put a big sticker on your car

if your a sales rep you work for yourself and are independent of the ski company you sell for....they pay you a large commission based on sales, and it is your job to budget that money (it is all work related)...most ski companies work like this

so when you get a sales rep job you work and travel independent and traveling everywhere to ski hills and such to give away products you rep

not give away, sell, you travel to sell things, do demos and other stuff. the schedule of a rep usually starts in october when they start running around doing production knowleges to all the shops that carry their stuff or want too, this continues until about late november. then it slows down just a little, for december. january through february is probably the busiest time because of all the shows and making sure your dealers are going to at least one of them. after that its more just showing all your dealers next years product, doing lots of demos and stuff.

The rad part about reps are when they have to sit in the tent being all cold and shit and everybody gets to come in and tell them how good skiing on the reps skis is.

ya know, you can really click your skis together three times and connnelly will magically appear. That's why Line and Helly love him so much.

ha ha dave looks like u need more training

basically they party with all the shop employees, go on mad road trips in the fall, call movie premiers "promoting", party in vegas for a week, and most importantly sleep into noon everyday

yeah peterson is all about the easy-way-out. he doesn't want to train hard and get good at skiing, he just wants to MAGICALLY be sponsored, or somehow become a rep's best friend and get free stuff, etc etc. it's pretty sad.. the mentality some of these kids have these days.

stick that in your pipe and smoke it!
