Replacement for pistols

I have 179 pistols that are on there last legs. I was looking at the Vicious, Elizabeth, Prophet 100, maiden aks, or maybe even gotamas. I want something similar to pistols but more big mountain, cause I just got 175 arvs. If you have ridden any of these skis please let me know how they compare to each other.

Elizabeths are probably the wrong direction to go from what you're saying, awesome as they may be. You could get a 185 ARV, but you already have 175s, so I'm guessing that's out. Vicious, Made'ns and Gotamas seem like good plans, yeah. They're a step further towards big mountain (more progressively in the order I listed them), but still come in lengths ~180. Add in a 182 moship ti perhaps, and if you're willing to wait, DEFINITELY consider the 2006 prophet 100s.

Or do that, yes. Glad we have ebay trollers around to fill us in on these deals. Little while ago there was a buy it now on Moship Tis for 250US on there, so the deals are there lately.

Yeah, but 6 days left, that's why. Same with 130s. It might be Brody Leven selling them actually, he had both of those skis for sale a little while ago.

Cool base graphic on the 100s, the only ones I've seen were inverted. I like the green better, I think.

Haven't heard a review yet... actually, that's kind of odd; seems like everyone's skiied the 06 lines, and a few people have even demoed next year's armadas, but no 4frnt reviews. Not that I'd be the guy to ask, but are you demoing them at camps and such this summer? I was interested to hear some opinions on the VCT.

sorry for the post jack, but jd i wanted your opion on ski size/model. I have the choice of thallpros or the ar5 next year. I was deciding between the 170 or 176. I'm 5'7 135. Also own the 175 arv for my nonpark riding.

i have not rode the vct's in powder yet, but they are really fun on the soft groomed. Thats the only time i have rode them.

i dont know why there is a lack of reviews on the new 4frnt stuff. I have gone to several demo's and had great feedback from everyone that has tried them.

i to have tried some of the new line stuff and armada stuff.

demos will be in full force at camp of champs. all skis, all sizes, and select demos will be avalible at mt.hood summer ski camp, and borderline camp in Alaska

I have yet to talk to anyone who owns Thalls who's been disappointed with them despite the occasional shit talk thread on here about the rounded edges. If you ski pipe a fair bit I'd say Ar5s, if not, flip a coin, it's a win-win situation. I'm on Ar5s now and they're great, park or groomed (they're at center, so not as good in soft stuff, but not as bad as I'd have thought either). The difference between a 170 and a 176 isn't all that huge, honestly, and if you're a good skier at a lightweight 5'7 a 176 shouldn't be a problem. But you probably have some idea of the length you want from judging by your ARVs.

You could also take a look at the invaders if you're looking to save a few bucks... unless you're brand loyal to AR as I've become. Seems like after you've been on a pair of Armadas you don't want to ski anything else as much anymore.

Sounds good... if anyone reading this is going to COC, try them up there and post a review. Even if the conditions aren't optimal for that kind of ski, some idea of what they're like would be appreciated.

i could post up a review of the vct's but i think it would be better coming from an unbiased person.

my thoughts on the vct's however

very solid ride... ohh so stable at high speeds, i was carving switch (real carving), in variable conditions at a solid 25mph "i would guess"

and they felt perfect.

much more pop than i expected from such a large ski. 182 length "104mm underfoot"

they made long fluid turns very well and were always ready for the next (they never really felt sluggish) Short turns were harder to make but got easier as i spent more time on them, just like on all skis over 100 at the waist, with the exception of the elizibeth.

over all, given the conditions that i used them in, i was more than happy, they were fun to jump with, i didnt hit rails but i know they would slay them, and they were fun to mob at really high speeds with, i also could ollie to 180 over "slow signs" at quite slow speeds, so the pop is pretty impressive. i could spin flatland 3 on them to. so the weight isnt that bad.. in the 182 length i would say that these skis feel quite lighter than a 179 seth pistol. (thats just a reference to estimate the weight).

these would be a good everyday ski for anybody that spends 50% off the trail, and 50% on, that not only demands a high performance backcountry ski, but a ski that can perform in the park as well.

hope this has helped a little. and dont be afraid to try out the skis this summer.

and post your reviews

^shawn. have u ridden the maidens (179)? how well do they spin compared to the pistols?

i have rode the 179 maidens, for like 2 runs, they are harder to spin than the pistols i guess. but the vcts are easier to spin than both of those

if you can afford it i would get the seth vicious. they kcik ass on hardpack because of the new sidecut, and have all the amazing pow and park abilities the pistol has. the most versatile ski out there.

179 made'ns are a piece of cake to spin...not much different than pistols, just a tad heavier.

get 179 made'ns...one of the sickest pow skis i've been on. jp's are right up there with the best too.

Get the Vicious, it's similar to the pistol, but it's wider. I think it would be more fun than the Made'n AK because it is more versatile, (14 mm variable sidecut on Vicious vs. 10 mm sidecut on AK) it will be good on groomers as well as powder.
