So my 05' Cannondale Prophet has a number of issues and need to determin wether it should be replaced with a new bike or fixed.

Problems:

-Need new fork or total rebuild

-New Wheelset

-Unknown problem with a noise and vibration that only happens when i start moving fast and goes away right when I start to peddal.

-Dont realy want a new bike since I enjoy the prophet and need to put some money into the DH rig aswell. Anyone have a rough idea what I could get out of the prophet if sold as is to fund the new bike?

sounds like the rattling is a loose crank, casset, or sprocet, which is an easy fix, same with a fork rebuild. it all depends on how much you love this bike and how nice of a wheelset you want. i personally would sell it and get a new one and put money into the DH bike. and what kinda dh bike is it?

i would try to fix it. that's what i've done every time my 05 kona coiler has broken, and now it has a really sick component set that i love

something rattling can rarely be diagnosed that fast and easily, and isn't necessarily that fast to fix.

also please don't try to rebuild a fork yourself. if youve never done it before, you will not do it well.

it completely goes against the warranty you ahve too. if you want your bike fixed, SEND the fork to cannondale (if its a cannondale fork, i pray to god its not a fucking lefty) and get them to fix it.

yu can replace the rest of your comp spec if you feel like it, but if somethings broken, there rarely is a quick fix

Get a new DH rig, sound's probably either your tire rubbing against the frame from it being bent out of true and it goes away when you pedal because it changes the wheel alignment..or like the other guy said, it's a loose crank or smthn. Get a new bike, I saw a Stinky from like 06 on Pinkbike for 1700 bucks. It was mint, I got a Norco Big Hit from 2006 for 1500 bucks.

fork rebuild- 40-80 bucks. what fork is it?

new wheelset... up to 800... why do you need a new one?

rattle noise.... bike shop man.

still cheaper than a new bike. and the prophet is fun, but what are you running for a dh rig?

^ If i were to get a new fork it would be a fox and my dh rig is a iron horse yakauza from a few years back that I have made some upgrades to like a new marzzocci rear shock, new code brakes, and of cource maxis minion 3c's that make any bike handel 10x better...

I work in a shop and from what you have described, your bike is beat to shit and I don't think it is worth very much. So I say you sell it and start saving for a legit whip instead some janky shit.

you're fucked.

call marz and hope for the best, they usually replace shit fo free if you bitch enough because their forks break all the time

and why do you want a yakuza AND a trail bike?

Beacuse the Yakauza is a 7 intch bike(downhill onlyl) and the cannondale trail bike is 5 (xc, trails)

Ya 8 + intches is a real dh bike but the yakauza can handel everything at Deer Valley with ease including NCS the nantional championship dh cource from a few years back with 7 intches and it runs money so its stayin the desision is about the prophet...looks like its on the way out....anyone want a killer deal on a bike?

the IH is a ok bike, I was riding a much less bike at our local DH races and smoking 5 grand bikes, If your happy ith the DH bike then thats all that matters.. but your SOL if you need a warenty, as IH is no more.. but as far as the XC bike, go into a shop and get a estamate as to how much it would dbe and work from there..

I think you should go talk to your local bike shop about your options. They will be able to tell you all the costs, benefits etc, and actually diagnose any problems.

id stay away from ironhorse seeing as they are basically no more. if you are going to buy a new bike id highly recommend the new scott voltage. base model is running about $1700. i dont know how much you want to spend but that bike, while not amazing stock, you still wont be dissapointed. you can adjust rear travel anywhere from 130mm-180mm you can also fit different size shocks as well depending on what you are going to be doing the most. i currently have a scott gambler fr10 and couldnt be happier with it. but if you are tight on money take a look at used specialized sx trails. they are an incredibly fun bike and can do just about anything. also if you can find a transition covert, those are also an extremely versatile. you dont need an 8''travel bike for DH and a 4'' travel bike for XC. get something with maybe 6 or so inches of travel and maybe a 66* head angle. as long as you are smooth, 6'' will be fine for DH, and it wont be demanding for just trail riding....unless you are doing a ton of hills, but i ride a lot of trails with my gambler at 8.2'' and a 64* head angle and i can manage.

i have

a Marzochi Triple Drop off $150

a set of tires $100

handlebars $30

otherstuff prob. i forget im at school

pm me if your interested.

sell it and save up for a new bike since it's winter right now. if you got a new bike would you want a hardtail or a full suspention set up? if you want a hard tail save up and get a Giant STP. One of the best all-round bikes on the market IMO. The Trance/Reign are dope too.

either fixs it or get a brand new bike. there is no point on selling an 05 bike for another 05/06 bike. fix it up and get the new parts you need. shouldn't be more then $200 bucks. with a good mechanic your bike will be running like new

i would sell both complete or part out everything except for stuff you want (upgrades you talked about on yakuza-brakes, etc.) and get a new 6-7.5'' bike. There are bikes in between both of those that can handle everything you throw at them if they're built right.SX Trail ($$$), giant reign x, lots of newer freeride bikes, transition dirtbag, etc.It depends on how much downhilling you do though and how rocky/tech. it is. You could always save up some money and get a decent used DH bike and hardtail, the used market is has so many hot deals right now

what 4-5 intch travel bike would you get...a 6 intch bike is too much beef for the longer 4-5 hour more demanding rides and long sustained climbs

^ Ya that bike is real tits... these new 6- 7 intch bikes are killer for trails in utah like the whole enchelata which was my first though when I saw that bike... wish i could afford 3 bikes

if you could find an older covert (older as in not this yrs. this yrs if 6'' of travel where the others were 5.5'' i think) id highly recommend that. my friend has one and he rides everything on it from 4hr XC rides to some technical DH runs. while his bike wasnt at all set up for someone like me, he is 6' im 5'4'', i still loved the feel of the bike. if you can tho definatly go to your local shop and just see if you can test some bikes out. they dont need to be exact bikes, just something that has maybe similar geo and see what you like. or if your mountain does mtbing in the summer just go and make some friends. haha i did that and got to ride a handful of bikes and narrowed my choises down. while i didnt ride a gambler at the mountain, i liked the geo of it and the adjustability. but for you id definatly recommend a covert. unless you are doing really demanding DH with a lot of big hits or really gnarly lines then id recommend getting something a little bigger. but id say as long as you arent going and hucking yourself off anything in front of you and keep your riding smooth that bike should be good.

just curious whats your height and weight??

just thought of another bike that will accomplish about the same as the covert. its the giant reign. at 6'' of travel its a little more than the covert, or same if you got this yrs. has the Maestro linkage which gives it an incredibly smooth feel on desents compared to a single pivot. if you got the reign or even the covert id make sure you got the fox float RP2 with adjustable propedal, you can lockout the shock making it almost feel like a hardtail while climbing so there isnt any suspention bob.

My friend rode a Yakuza for 2 weeks in the Alps this summer. It was a fucking nightmare. They don't make the mech hangers anymore, so for any bike pre-2006/07, it's a major problem. We ended up having to fashion a new mech hanger from a Giant one.

And now that Turners have the DW Link, which was the one redeeming feature of the Sunday, there's very little going for them. And yes, they are incredibly heavy. A small Sunday is less chuckable than a large Blindside or something like that.

But yeah, get a new build. A lot of older twin crown Marzos have massive oil and valve issues. I've lost count of the amount of times I've had to pump up 888s, because they haemorrhage air, or replace the oil in Dropoffs

i have a med/large sunday, and it is NOT heavy

it's a light bike

yakuza's are heavy, really all of ironhorse except the sunday aren't the best bikes

well now they aren't even around, so ya

although the drop offs are by no means the best fork, pre~07 (still made in italy) zocchis are some of the most durable forks around, especially the 888s. Granted you have to keep up on regular maintenance, but they are bomb proof if you maintain them

I sold my DH bike and I am buying a 6 inch bike that I will ride all my 4+hour ride on and we have pretty good rides around here.. travel and weight isnt that important.. rotational weight with your wheel set and tires is the biggest thing, and so many bikes now are amazing how well they pedel for how much travel they have..

I know that people will boo me out for this but I was sponsored by mongoose and rode there Boot'r Team last year and I will be riding a Khyber this year.. I strongly sugest you check out the mongoose line, they are great bike. The freedrive suspension system works amazingly well and I have loved it, and these bikes are the best bang for the buck of any new bike out there..

the Khyber that I am riding, I can shuttle it and have ridden some of the burliest DH courses around here on it, and then I swap a wheel set out and I can easily ride 5+ hour epic XC rides on it.. Its one of those bikes that istn the best at anything, but it does just about every thing short of dirtjumps and trial very very well..

I do remomend you check out the Mongoose line.. the teocali would be a bitchin trail bike too.. my dad has one on order.
