Im going to reno this weekend and I was wondering if it was worth it to go to Mamouth. If not what is the best place to ski around reno with a big park, cliffs and powder.
 
hell yea it's worth going to Mammoth! otherwise, try Alpine or Northstar. Boreal is an all-mountain park now so I'm sure they're good.
 
real deal...we are in a high pressure state of weather right now...expect 40-50 degrees sunny days and below freezing (teens) temps at night ==== which all equals SICK sierra skiing..

Mammoth has the ON-snow trade fair this weekend - kind of a more fun follow up to sia. All the companies will be repping 07 product for on-hill demos but only to people who r part of the demo..i.e shop owners and buyers...

best bet this week is mammoth - weather is perfect for their park and with the olympics going on...the pipe will be "emptier" - no Danny Kass dropping in on you!
 
mammoth is pretty fucking far from reno like 4 or 5 hours so no its not worth it when tahoe is like 30 minutes away. try alpine for perfect jumps boreal of a ridiculous amount of jibs and alpine is also good off piste. and yeah the drive from reno to mammoth is boring as fuck.
 
the drive down 395 is the most EPIC drive in the country! wtf r you talking about

you drve 140 miles along the sierra, passing huge peaks and some of the most famous BC descents in north america...in fact 396 between reno and Bishop is considered to be some of the best BC terrain in the world by many mountaineers and hard core skiers...take the drive, twis one up and enjoy the coolest views oin the country
 
you have no clue what youre talking about. mammoth is 3 hours, 3 and a half if you dont speed and the drive is beautiful. Tahoe is 45-50 minutes depending on the resort.
 
what ever you do dont go to alpine meadows! its way to flat and way to expensive and way to overcrowded. plus the backcountry sucks up there! no cliffs whatsoever.

but on a more serious note, alpines park as far as jibs, blows dick. but i really dont spend too much time in alpines park. i love SKIING. they have some sick hikes to epic lines and plenty of inbounds cliffs drops.
 
ya mammoths worth it if u plan on stayin there a few days. but go to squaw or alpine. alpines less crowded so thatd be my first choice. and its cheeper and a lot more laid back
 
nothing like smoking a fatty leaving reno at 6am...hitting up the sportsmans lounge in bridgeport for a fat breakfast then rallying the finally 45minutes to mammoth, getting to the top lot early, park close and snag first gondola to huevos grandes on a three foot day!
 
we made it 3 1/2 hours flat with icy roads from the mcqueen area (northern reno) and u really dont have any idea of what you're talking about. the scenery was awesome on the way out.
 
squaw is cool. they will have their super pipe and a bunch of rails and the second table at riv is super nice. squaws terrain is also uncomparable to anywere in the us aside from alta/snowbird and jackson, but i would say that even then it still might be better
 
hey, i was in tahoe this past week and skied alpine, squaw, northstar, and heavenly. I recommend squaw, alpine, and heavenly in that order. Squaw is absolutly sick as far as breadth of terrain goes, alpine had some sick terrain from what i saw of it (the backside was closed due to winds). Heavenly might have ranked higher if we hadn't gotten a warm down, then freeze which made the shit crust over. Northstar... i wasn't a big fan cause a. they're doing construction so gettin around off the slopes is a pain in the ass, and i just wasn't that impressed with the place...
 
Yeah it all depends on how much time you have up in Reno. If you're really into jumping Alpine will be your best bet. Jibs try Northstar or boreal. Sqauw could be sick too, but I think thier park is lagging right now. These are all the closest places.
 
are you trying to keep alpine a secret or are you retarded? flat? no cliffs? are you serious!?! maybe you should take off your snowskates and explore the mountain a little.
 
Mammoth is worth it if you are willing to make the very long drive from Reno. Otherwise, Tahoe is really close to Reno and definitely worth skiing. I recommend Alpine Meadows, or Squaw if you are willing to shell out the extra money.
