removing and mounting your bindings on the same pair of skis

i want to paint my skis. the only problem is that there are bindings on them. can i remove the bindings, paint the skis, then remount them in the same holes? will they still have the same strength? im gueesing no, so is there some way i could do this without compromising my bindings mounting strength?

if i were you, i would paint them without taking off the binders, this is how i did it. i put tape really neatly aroudn the edges of where the binders meet the ski, the way painters protect wood siding when painting a wall. if you'v seen it you know what i mean. from there, as long as you do the tape well, you can paint it as normal

oh yeah and in case you didn;t know, you can't remount binders in the exact same holes or very close to the same holes cuz they'll break off in an instant

i figured that. if i wanted to actually take them off i would have to get them remounted in a different spot then huh. i think i might just engineer my graphics around my bindings.

correct

this is one of the many reasons that all skis should have threaded inserts like line's skis. and all bindings should convert over to this format. snowboarders have been doing it for years. why hasnt the majority of the ski industry caught on to this, what the hell.

it would only be doable if the holes in the skis were universal.. all bindings have different patterns.. if they did do that it would be awesome

Tip-2-Tip We Rule

it should be standardized. isnt there some orginization that controls the standards that bindings and skis must be made too? a subdivision of FIS maybe? im not sure. but it should be standardized.

i'm sorry, but that's not gonna happen anytime in the near future

plus it would be heavy, just as the line's were

yeah thats something that takes a while to get done. hopefully next year with line releasing its binding again the system will get more recognition, and in due time having two pairs of skis with the same pair of bindings will be possible.

but yeah, that would definitely be a great thing if it ever happened

i think that binding mounts should be like forum snowboards. they have sliders so you don't have to remount them. now that would be great

~never be bought. never be sold~

could you elaborate/\ how do they work?

'hi ma name is yoon, did you shee ma 720?'

(laughter)

'i don't speaka your language'

they have 2 slider tracks by the edges. grooves if you will. then they have to base screws that go into the track., then then put bindings on those screws. if you want to widen your stance, then you loosen the screws, make your stance wider, then tighten the screws. this would be the best system for skis i beleive

paint em, hahahahaha

thats sick, action shot. so on skis you could adjust your stance forward or backwards.

Yeah, the forum system works pretty good, and would more than likey work for skis too. Binder manufacturers would have to standardize mounting patterns though. The nice thing about that system is, if you strip an insert you can simply replace it in a matter of seconds.
