Remembering 9/11

well we are coming up on the 4th anniversary of this tragic event and i think it's important we do not forget what happened that day

September 11th, the day was clear,

Most people went to work without any fear,

Then all of a sudden our whole world changed,

When the planes hit the Towers, we were all so drained,

Little did we know what was lying ahead,

So many crying, running, and so many dead,

It was a day so many of us feared,

Never realizing such horror was ever so near,

The people band together to help you see,

Firemen, police, and medical trainees,

There were strangers helping any who survived,

And became ecstatic when they found some alive,

The barriers were broken of status and color,

All worked together to help one another,

Everyone there was trying to overcome,

The chaos and fear that had just begun,

New York, Washington, a field in Pennsylvania -- Our whole world,

Came crashing down in such a swirl,

The tragedy we saw on that sad day,

Will be with us always and so we pray,

We pray for those lost and their families too,

We will never forget them, no matter what we do.

so please take a moment and remember what happened that day

I was up to kick in our game of Mattball (it's like kickball but you can run the bases either way) when our principal walked into the gym and started talking to the gym teacher. I thought nothing of it and kicked the ball and ran onto base. Well we went back to the locker room and changed. In the locker room i heard my gym teachers say a plane hit the twin towers. I thought this was really weird. I did not nearly expect the results that happened. As i was walking up to history i heard a lot of people talking about this. I sat down and immideatley my teacher said "Today is going to be one of the most historical days of your lives." It looked like she had been crying. She explained to us that terrorists had hijacked a plane and crashed it into the towers. There was this deadly silence in the room for a good 5 minutes. Something you never hear in an 8th grade classroom is silence. The principal told us not to watch it in school. My history teacher didn't listen. This was one of the most horrible things she had ever seen. We were watching TV and all of a sudden another plane slammed into the other tower. Some people screamed and some people just watched in shock. Little did we know this would be the worst terrorist attack to ever hit American soil. I remember sprinting down my driveway after the bus dropped us off. I immideatley turned on the TV. I was shocked. My whole life i thought the US was untouchable. Well, on September 11, 2001, we all learned a very valuable lesson about safety. I give all my griefs to the families of victims of this great tragedy. I hope our nation will NEVER forget this day. Such as we will never forget Pearl Harbor. So please when you read this take some time and think about how it affected your life.

yeah i was in grade 8 or 9 MRE, and i heard something about buildings exploding and i was completely clueless until we had an assembly or announcement or whatever it was on the situation. then i saw the news later on in the day and was thinking... fuck! that's insane! i remember it like it happened last year, and it was so damn long ago. in my opinion, this is going to become an american holliday or something similar. it will undoubtedly be marked on future calenders as a day to remember.

stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

Im from ontario...(just so you know we arnt all terrible)

its a day we need to never ever forget, the tradegy that stuck the US that day was terrible. I have friends who had nightmares for weeks after, and I still can see those planes taking their ill-fated journy into the twin towers. I remember the video's of people running, the mass death that occured. The people in the towers were not military, were not politicians, they were regular people. All they did was show up to work and they lost their lives.

A boy at my ski club lost his father during that horrible day.

Remember an event like this effects everyone.

Rest in Peace all those that were in the trade towers.

Rest in Peace hero's of flight 93

Gravity sucks

'Weighing in at only 125 lbs, I could easily bench double my weight as a senior in H.S.; maxing out at an outstanding 245 lbs. I still had the build of a small person.' - d-loc

"I only drink on 2 occasions. When I'm thirsty, and when I'm not."

yeah i was in ontario too.. wait, montreal at the time. it still hit us pretty hard though. i mean, it just felt like a swift kick in the pants. it provoked many a conversation with my good ol dad.. how humanity has sadly declined over the years, the fate between foreign relations. i dunno man, it was just too depressing, directly and indirectly

i hope i won't offence anyone here, 9/11 was horrible, i was shocked and so on ... but honestly, the people who died there do not have more value than other ones who died all around the world that day or another one.

that's sad, but definitely, you should better die with 3000 other people, you have more chances to be remembered

i'm pretty sure nobody has forgotten 9/11. if your going to play saint you should aim your remberence at events that people actually have forgotten in other parts of the world. life is about humanity, not just americans.

Yes simon I am playing saint...I'm having a hard time finding the spot where i said "It's just about Americans" in my post. Can you point it out? Did you think about the fact that 9/11 wasn't just Americans killed? No, I didn't think so. You see simon, as an American who lost a friend in the Sept 11 attacksi get a little bit of good feeling by sharing these emotions with other people maybe in the same situation or were watching that dreadful day. Now this is a VERY sensitive topic. If you lived in NYC and acted the way you do about this day, someone would probably beat the shit out of you. You see an attack like this has a ripple effect. Innocent people lost their lives. Basically this topic was for people to share their stories of this day or just to talk about how they handled it. You and you're fucking insensitive posts do NOT belong in this topic. I really hope you take your "I'm too badass to care about an American problem" attitude and just leave the thread. I'm sick of you're fucking bull shit comments. Grow a fucking heart you piece of shit.

i think we should remember what happened in 1994 when the hutu extremists unleashed a genocide and over 800,000 people were murdered in one hundred days. men, women, and children. more than 800,000 people in 100 days in incomprehendable. hard to believe some people dont remember or even know about this event.

funny you should mention it...can you tell me who went in with the most troops to overthrow the hutu? OOOOOO yea it was America wasn't it? Who made movies on this event tears of the sun and theres something else i forget...America again...but as you said earlier it's not just about Americans so why is there no compassion twords our tragedy? Because there was less people killed, it doesn't matter? I know sep. 11 and the halocaust are so publicized but they are important. What about the hundreds of thousands of Kurds killed in Yugoslavia? You see it's not about the amount of people killed. I remember these events. They weren't a one day event though. We see them more as a "war" type of thing. I know they were all innocent and none of them deserved to die, but the world doesn't see it like they do Sep 11, pearl harbor, London and madrid bombings, tsunami, and other similar events that happened in a day or two span. Americans do remember things. We remember what happened in India with Ghandi and his hunger strikes. As you see, my bringing up ONE certain event to remember did not need any retaliation. It was just a thread commemerating the 4th anniversary of Sep. 11. Yet again, you are an asshole.

simon, where do you live in the world? because for me, and most of france, we remember the Rwandan genocide, between the utus and the tutsis. I have close friends from Rwanda in france who escaped it, one named Francine that was rapped by a guard that was getting her out of the country. Now she is married to a swedish person, i went to their wedding and my dad was best man. A friend of theirs, Jean Sauveur, was kept imprisonated in Rwanda for 2 years.

do not tell me that you know who remebers and who does not remeber the Rwandan genocide. Trust me, many swedish people have gone through today without remebering it was the 4th anniversary of the suicide attacks. You assume everyone knows what today is, and XxXScRAtcHXxX is making sure no one forgets. someone might have logged on today not remebering, seen the thread, looked at the calendar and gone: damn. if that was the case only once, then XxXScRAtcHXxX's puropse was fufilled.

stop condescending simon, we all agree this should be remembered, and if you want other things remembered and you feel they have been forgotten, go to the measures you need to see that the most people know what happended.

almostaskier, your right and i think more people outside of america remember rwanda, but in america there are too many people that dont even know what happened.

but that can be said about everything man... "many people in america..." don't know who fought who in WWI and WWII/ don't know where Iraq is on a map/ don't realize that native americans used to live where they do now/ that the US did not invent english...

you can say that about anyone, anytime. But i am sure many epople do know what happended in Rwanda. you can accuse specific people simon, but not a general populace, because you have no idea.

more americans know about items you listed than know about rwanda. have you seen the video online where the guy walks around asking like 100 people if they know what happened in rwanda and only like 11 people knew. its crazy.

Simon filler again with an ignorant response. So Simon, did you personally go to America and asked them what happened? Simon you actually are thinking you know more then you do. In America we learn about African modern history in 11th grade (i think?) i remember it was either 11th or 10th. Well my teacher taught us a lot on this subject. Like i said America is making movies on this. Yes to make money, but it also helps to enstill that idea of what happened in Rwanda. Simon you also don't think about how Sep. 11 attacks are such a symbolic time in our recent history. It was the first time that America had ever had a terrorist attack so big on it's continental boarders. It hit us hard and at home. After that day there was such a bond between Americans. The patriotism that came out of that was amazing and i was not one of the people that put a flag on my car and took it off 2 weeks later. I feel it's important to keep the patriotism. People remember it, but not to the severity it deserves. Once again Simon you're an ignorant asshole...
