Religion / Beliefs

replying to natedawg-- many people try to find one thing wrong in the bible that has been translated wrong or doesnt agree with other things and uses this as an excuse to say every total word in that book is bullshit. this you can see is somebodies ignorance and sometimes fear of the truth. People devote their lives trying to accuratlly translate bibles and other historic stuff to try to better understand what has been said over this long time period.

also in response to people commonly say 'believe want you want as long as you dont try to talk to me' this is the exact definition of apathy

Yes, you're right - the Bible has changed a LOT since it was written. Bits were dropped and added. I heard a dude on the radio talking about it - he said reincarnation was mentioned at one point.

Wow, i really agree with lanks and i was surprised to actually see something like that on here. Anyways, i believe that the bible is without fault.. I've doen a good bit of reading about it and have yet to find anything that is incorrect or contradicts itself. There are plenty of things that the bible predicts will happen that actually do. And yes, the bible was written a LONG time ago and in Hebrew and yes it was translated..

what about the secondary class of women? does that hold consistent with the views of a civilized society?

coz- i admit it all looks good on paper, the theory of evolution that is, but at the cellular level there isnt a chance that it could have happened. well there is always a chance, but you know what i mean. read a book named 'darwin's black box' by professor michael behe. it clarifies everything.

We talked about this in physics. Its the Law of Conservation of Matter. Matter cannot just come from anywhere. And if all of a sudden a big bang came and the world (TONS of matter) was created.. where was the matter before the big bang? Many laws of science (like this one) refute the evolution theory..

And yeah, i dont think the bible will prophecize everything that is to happen. i.e. the 911 attacks.. But, the bible does say lots about the Palestinian conflict.. How there will never be peace in the middle east.. So far, for MANY years, this has held true..

we know it's that old because the old testament is the basis of the jewish religion. There are many descrepencies in the bible. MANY. infact a lot of the old testament contradicts the new testament.

Have you looked into the whole begat section of the bible. everyone lives over 200 and when you add it all up the world is very young, yet we know that people and ever other religions are older than the time frame that the bible gives. So if you believe the bible word for word then can you choose which sections to take literally and which ones shouldn't be? or will you try and refuse everything we know about ancient civilizations and the history of the earth?

In the new testement jesus told stories. Are they supposed to be taken literally, no. so why should I believe something word for word, written 5,000 years ago by a man, who wasn't God. Maybe the stories in the old testement are ment to give the same moral guidance, and obligations that the stories of jesus give.

?

Conservation of matter has nothing to do with evolution, The only thing it relates to are things pre-big bang. By your own logic nothing should exist.

oh and while I'm whoring it up. do you want to explain how everything in this earth has mitochondrial DNA that is incredibly similar. It's a good proof for evolution.

As you can probably tell attacking the descrepencies in a theory or belief (which are one in the same) is easy.

people come up with fancy-dancy theories about the purpose of life because they are arrogant and believe people have some special status in the universe, which we dont. we are here for the same reason every other living thing is here for: to pass on our genetic material. Conditions for life on earth have been good enough to support people, a highly developed organism. we are just in on the bonanza same as any lowly amoeba. so quit thinking about it and fuck some broads. its why you're here.

Dlouhy - the 'Bible code' is bullshit - I read some of the book and it seemed pretty far-fetched. Pretty much saying 'look at this diagram - it shows that WW2 happened when it did' etc etc. Little proof in there (which I think is what you're saying too). It did say something big is happening in 2012 and 2023 too though. And strangely enough I remember around 2022 an asteroid will pass near the earth. And also some dude on the radio said that if you change a reference in the Bible to a certain number of days into years, 2023 is the result. Coincidence? Probably, but wait and see.

The Bible, Quran and all other holy books were written by different people with different views on life. The fact that there are so many religions in the world saying pretty different things makes believing in any one of them a rediculous idea to me. Hindus are so sure that their views are right and that 2 billion christians are wrong (and vice-versa)? Give me a break.

bambam does that mean that all are wrong? that is just stupid thinking, 'there are so many religions so none of them can exist,' well what if one does? youre screwed for eternity.

actually it doesn't prove anything of a common designer. The mutations of the DNA would be different from species to species, because the mitochondrial dna changes so slowly and at a predictable rate you can see that humans have almost identical M. DNA where species that are different have slight differences in Mitochondrial DNA but because they are not in the same lineage as humans they don't posess some of the same mutations that apes and humans both have. If everything on this earth was created in 7 days. All living creatures would have different M.Dna even if they started off with the exact same M.DNA at creation.

I'm with 221 though

i have one thing to say about all of these theories to evolution, it was only about 500years ago man thought the earth was flat, im not trying to shoot these theories down though sometimes its wiser to figure things out.

mike, you have some good points, but im telling you, try and get ahold of 'darwin's black box.' it's groundbreaking, because it is really the first published challenge to the common evolutionary theory put out by a respectable scientist...it explains all this information way better than i can.

i'm gonna look into that thanks, lanks

im catholic but i doubt that the world is created as the bible says cause there are thousands of religions and whats the chance that this one is correct, i mean most the people that are catholic ancistors were probably forced to be catholic for fear of death, or just missionaries

i think of it this way. religion and reality are only what a human will beleave in their own mind. All religions are man made and somebody at sometime had to come up with the ideas at somepoint. I beleave that religion was originally thought of for humans as an answer to the unexplained. and it still is an answer for the unexplained. Religion was once thought of to explain why the sky is blue, why there is water, and why things are the way they are. today we have proven why this things are so naturally for us humans we need to explore new meanings and that is to the afterlife. the afterlife is one of the last few things that humans have yet to figure out. this is where religion is today. Religion is man made to create an answer to the things that we really dont have an answer for.

one in one trillian chance

well theres still that one chance

i really think religion should be found by yourself, and not have it taught to you in a instituted system of beliefs. if anyone has seen the movie stigmata, you understand the concept of the 'lost message', a statement made by christ that said instituted religion was for the weak, and is un-needed. i believe the exact words were 'turn over any stone, and i'll be there' people worry to much about what other people think and do. i believe ben harper said it best......

'my choice is what I choose to do

and if I'm causing no harm

it shouldn't bother you

your choice is who you choose to be

and if your causin' no harm

then you're alright with me'

don't throw stones if you live in a glass house;

and if you got a glass jaw you better watch your mouth

here it is.....

'The kingdom of God is within you and all around you. It is not within buildings of wood or stone. Split a piece of wood and you will find me. Look beneath a stone and I am there.'

don't throw stones if you live in a glass house;

and if you got a glass jaw you better watch your mouth

Mike,

You were saying that if the world was created in 7 days then the dna would be different today. I might not be making any sense here, but I think in the Bible it says something about '1 day with God is as of 1000 years' or something like that. So maybe the Earth wasn't really created in the 7 days you and I know... Maybe it took thousands of years...

BOIOIOIOIOIOING!!!

ya that's what I'm saying, it's very difficult to take the bible literally, most people that I know who believe in the bible believe that 7 days is really just a metaphore for thousands of years

- Mike

ya. I ment to add that the bible doesn't say that the 7 days was really 7 thousand or 700,000, it just says 7 days which is hard to take literally.

Good thread Nate, (there's less yelling & more questioning than previous ones)

yeah that is a common point that is debated over in the church; should a literal 6 day creation be taken literally. i say yes, others say no, and we all have good points, so it's hard to say.

Joel

p-jo you are full of wisdom but if there was a parrell planet and we tried to go to it the other planet would be doing the same thing and we would crash at the direct center of the planets.

Someone several messages up brought up years in the future that may someday have a significance. In addition to that I would like to ask what people feel about medjugorje, fatima, and other visions and prophecy. We could talk about the three secrets of fatima but I'm afraid not too many people know the story.

for the person who objected to people believing in the evolution theory because 'you're putting your fate in dirt'....what if your god was dirt. also god could be anything, god could be the lead that we use for a pencil and we are really jsut surrounded by god. and the only way god could communicate to us was to look like us. but then again i don't believe in god. so...

i believe we just evolved and aren't anything special at all. and the only reson why we are still the way we are today is because we evolved with smart enough brain power to reconstruct the environment to our needs, rather than reconstruct our bodies, as mother nature would've. i feel as though we've stopped the cycle of evolution on our planet, so all that is left is death. it sucks, but it's the way it is.

i mean think about it, every animal just lives and dies off. if they don't die off, they have something designed about them that made them survive. our brains started our cycle of survival. and we realized that and trained our brains and became smarted. soon enough we are forced to use our brains and now we evolve our brains rather than our body because our brains make things for our bodies.

another reason why i think religion isn't too fly, would be all the lies that the churches tell. i don't understand how someone can love something so much that give no return. if you never believe in religion you don't ever worry about what you do, because you know you made the best decision in the circumstance. and if not oh fucking well, it already happened and you'll come to realize that one day.

i hate to push my beliefs on people like i do, but thats how i express myself. since i could never imagine believing in religion, it baffels my mind to see so many people that do. however i never thought of myself as a bad driver and i think driving is extremely easy, yet there are a ton of shitty drivers out there in the world. so, i guess im just exceptional. i've seen the light, our creator is the fucking sun!

My signature sucks.

who's the sun's creator?.. and who's the creator of the creator of the sun?... and so on and so forth... and if we arnt 'special', why are we able to ask questions like, where did we come from?... Or how can we even speak?.. where did language come from?.. where did comunication in general come from?... all dificult questions for evolutionists to answer. and don't just say people invented language as they went along, because the ability to turn an electric current running through the body, into a an idea, and then into a thought, and then debate it in one's mind, and then change that into a spoken or written language, with millions of rules and variations, all is remarkable, and impossible to even comprehend. It wouldn't seem that something so utterly complex would simply just come from a burning ball of gas, that can't even think for itself.

1080mute, read 'the math gene', by keith devlin. it will answer all of you questions about the origins of language.

basically, organized language originated with human's control over fire, as well as the ability to think off-line. with this control came protection from predators at night. with all this new free time, we had the first opportunity to sit and just 'think', rather than always being on the lookout for predators.. read the book for the rest.
