I think that nowadays in america people make the assumption that everyone believes in god. I believe in god, but i just think that there is too much of the assumption that everyone does.

something like that,a friend of mine is jehova,he cant go out with friends or nothing,i called him one time to go skating and he coudltn go out,i see him sometimes on friday nights walkin with his parents and renting a movie,it must suck man

another one of my friends was presbyterian,he was a big stoner and a huge trouble maker while the rest of his family were all goody goody and stuff,after a hockey game he asked me to go eat there for supper and i was shocked when they all started to say grace and stuff,i had never done that before,i was scared

Hey I'm religious, and I'm cool with it. But what bothers me is when ppl are like so religious that they just make it look retarded so ppl laugh at it making it easy to stereotype the ppl in that religion, which really sucks.

I'mnot religious and I dont even think religion is something that it is made out to be. Religion and science are the same thing. If god does exist, he is an Extra Terestrrial, If heavan and hell exist they are dimensions. Etc. Its all perspective.

 
i dunno about religion, i mean it's always good to believe in something or goals or morals, but according to the bible the earth is only 5000 years old. So if evolution is right the early humans, not being able to explain many events just said ohh it was the spirits and eventually these spirits formed into one god and all the other religions, and then off the main religions like catholic you get like 10 other religions. all the christian religions are just break offs of catholic, so that means that that even the catholic church is right that the others are hopelessly lost

Um, well all the religions are breakoffs from The Torah or !st Testament, so I guess Judaism, Islamic and Christian people all have the same religion.

that's cause people change stuff, i mean the bible is not all right. if people don't like what they hear they change it. So don't think the bible is everything it's supposed to be. It's human nature, over 3000 years some stuff is gonna be missed or just changed

AS there are different beliefs beetween Catholics and Prostastants etc. Also, Ifthere are like 1000 different religions in the world, how can they all be right? you are almost (and this is kind of stupid to say, since some are more well-established and therefore likely to be correct) taking a 1 in 1000 chance that you are correct, at the very most.

 
They've already changed it, but that doesn't change the whole idea of it. I also don't think it ever says anything about the earth being only 5000 years old. They talk about stuff happening in like 1 day, but like 1 day could be equal to a hundred years. Not neccisarily what we call one day or even 5000 years.

The fact that there has been almost nothing that cannot be proven incorrect so far. They are constantly finding things that can only be proving that the words in the bible are correct, rather than incorrect. Besides, do you have any evidence supporting that it's not true?

Nope, no proof on that. But that doesn't stop my believing. That's why it's pretty much called a faith. You have to have faith that its true, and so on. As far as aliens go...aliens can die.

I wouldn't be surprised either.. The people why call crazy for believing that kinda stuff might be onto something. Doesn't mean that aliens are godly or anything, just cuz they aren't from earth. Imagine, they could think the same about us. That would be odd now wouldn't it.

Yeah, this guy drake did a calculation (i believe its called the DRAKE theorem) that states that in one galaxy theree would be 4000 intelligent civilisations and that a civilisation such as this could conquer a galaxy within the time of 65 i believe million years using ships to take over planet by planet. Pretty complicated calculations that I cnat remember but it seems likely that in our 15 billion years of having a Universe this wouldve happened?

 
That's kinda scary to think about. We get worried about global issues. To think that people might have to start worrying about galaxy issues or something would just be crazy.

Yeah, or this could be the solution to everything. It would either start trade with them and unite earth or they would help us unite earth or to fight them off we would have to unite. However, your point is very true, theres so much more to think about than what you see at first.

 
either way, if it's true or not. i just don't like the idea of basing my entire life and beliefs on one thing that i havn't seen or felt, i feel that rather than searching for something or always looking to a higher meaning why not just live how you want, i mean with that comes your morals and stuff but why be in an organized religion, just live as a good person

and remember, what we see today in the bible and torah are translations of what has been said in the past. Perhaps all of the translations we see in the bible are incorrect because perhaps it was written incorrect. And what is written in the bible is also what might be our best explanation through the translations given.

I look at the bible like its a fairy tale. Its full of stories, that are so far from anything that is close to reality that i have ever read, and when people take it seriously and base there lives around it it bugs me out. I beleive that as soo as we are born we begin to die. Heaven? are you kidding me? amoung the clouds and all that? science has come so far, and proven religon SO wrong. But people still go to church everyday all over the world chanting and singing like a cult.....

Sure there are good morals, involved, but why base your life on somthing that is such a fable. If you look at everything christian, its all based on money. Think about it, Alpentalik nailed in on the head when he said propoganda bullshit..... it sickens me

ya true that, basically most religous people have been in that religion so long that they believe it cause basically they have been brain washed, there whole life is one thing so of course they are gonna live it and defend it, i went to church ever sunday up unitl a year ago when i did thinking and realised that it was pointless

I go because it's a good environment to be in plus the highschool service they have is really fun. But ya, I guess it's all on opinion. It's rediculous to have people who are so crazed for the religion because again, it makes it easy to stereotype. What really pisses me off are people who make fun of the people who do believe in their religions. It's their own opinions i guess, but it's especially bad to have friends doing it too.

I don't really see how it's a 'brainwashed society' or whatever you called it though. I guess I've heard horror stories told from some Christian camps that friends went to. They said that they were trying to get them to 'wash their hands for God' and crazy stuff like that. I can see that as brainwash, but not all people are like that. The church I go to is pretty relaxed about stuff and you don't have to like dress up for church services and stuff unless you really want to. I guess it's more of a community where you can express your own feelings and get help and comfort with them by talking to people especially with small things like home problems or problems in school. Don't go on saying you could get a psych for that...It gives a little bit more. Like a sense of comfort and wanting to be a better person because it makes you feel like you have something more to live for. Like a better future ahead. I don't really know how to explain it though.

Maybe it's not for everybody, and that's something I can understand. I know that I have my doubts about it, thing that I can't explain, but it all end up making me happier once I do come back to it.

i like the gospels... i get more out of the well-written metaphorical stories that aren't suppose to be literal out of the bible. there is always a message.. i've given up standing, kneeling and listening to other parts of mass such as homily etc.... i find the rest is propaganda... one of those weeks the priest was droning on about how the church is the light and everyone should go to the catholic church because it's the 'right' way... and then they had collection...

wow this is so wierd for me to read. Some people may stereotype me as 'religious', but I think that being 'religious' is not the same thing as being a Christian. Religion is a 'ritual observance of faith' thats from the actual dictionary. Being a Christian means that a)you believe that Jesus is the risen Lord and Savior b)he was born from a virgin and c)there IS a trinity...I think those are the main beliefs in Christianity. But to be religious..thats a whole different thing. Religion is where you or a whole group of people do the same things at the same time..u go to church, u pray b-4 every meal, u lift your hands when your singin the songs, etc. But I believe when your a Christian, all you have to do is believe thos essential things, and your fine. It's up to you the extent you want to go for 'religions' sake...theres my 10cents

Ya, but what she's saying is that you dun have to like kneel or confess or whatever. In some branches off of christianity (catholic, lutheran, etc) you have to do similar things like that.
