REI Pop Out Ad

Come on, I know I'm not the only one who is getting beyond annoyed by the REI ad that keeps randomly popping up...
 
It popped up over all my account buttons in the top left of my screen while I was trying to open a PM. I had to click it and then close it to git rid of it.

Whatever that ad is that pops up at the bottom of the NS window when scrolling forums covered the "Send Message" button in my PM window, too. Had to close that one before I could go forward.

I don't mind looking at ads while I browse NS. Hell, sometimes I'll click on 'em because I know it helps the site. But something about the ads interfering with my browsing just really bothers me.
 
I was about to make a thread just like this. I agree, advertising on ns is getting to be ridiculous. the up side is that ns makes a lot of revenue off them. yw bishop
 
Never thought I'd use adblock on NS,

But until you guys stop running the REI ad. I will have too because it crashes my browser ever time i come on NS
 
It's pretty annoying that it pops up every time I return to the home page after watching videos/photos/news articles from the home page. If it only popped out once each session I wouldn't mind it much but this is really annoying when watching lots of videos and photos. I only seem to get the pop up when using chrome and not when using safari tho.
 
This one went way too far, isn't supposed to be functioning like that.

I've put in a request for it to come down, but I think the team is out for the holidays.

Should only last a day or two, but I'll keep trying to get it down because as mentioned, it isn't supposed to come up automatically like that.

good call.. I hope you guys get a nice kick back every time it gets clicked because since it loads slow I go to click "my threads" and it acts as if I clicked the ad instead

I was just about to make this thread. I will have ad-block on until its fixed... it was causing some pretty weird errors.

WHAT THE HELL is up with the "Line of the Winter" ads? They literally cover my entire browser, only offering me a little link to click to "continue to newschoolers.com." It's on the splash page, it pops up when I try to open threads on the home page, clicking the home button on the top bar gives it to me. This shit BLOWS.

jesus, just when i think the it couldn't possibly get any worse than the REI ad, BAM, whole browser covered with gopro trying to rape my face.

this sucks a big ol' bag of dicks. get rid of this shit ASAP

As a point of reference, your browser isn't being covered, its actually loading a completely new page. This is only maximum ever supposed to display once per day so we're addressing the current behavior.

Point in fact, Newschoolers actually uses a lot less intrusive ads than most sites. The problem is the frequency that people use it and us making sure that we balance how much it goes out to each person.

Business Insider and many other major news sites use glaring interstitials, pop-up ads, expandables, etc... but since you only go there once in a while you don't notice it as much.

This is on us, and we're tuning it down. Sorry about this guys.
