Rehabing a knee?

I fucked up my knee at the beginning of the season and like an idiot i still went skiing and stuff later and messed it up pretty bad, doctor says nothing was torn just like a sprain on the MCL and it has been a lot bigger than my other knee for months. My question is how do i rehab it so it will be good again... I want to be able to train this summer to try out for my universities lacrosse team in the fall. Any suggestions?
 
lots of stretching, lots of icing after you use it, always, always stretch it and warm it up before you use it, and if it starts to hurt, stop using it, even if you don't want to.
 
start with a lot of stretches like samskisalot said, once it's feeling stronger start on a bike to get the muscles back, but don't push it. wear a brace, and stop when it starts to hurt. then more stretching and icing. i did the same thing two seasons in a row, i definitely feel your pain.
