Refurbishing Look Pivots

Have some '04 world cups that served the last 10 years on my bent chetler skis, now set up as Cast on Declivity X. I've managed to take these apart in order to set them up for Cast, and realized how simple they actually are. The heelpiece is a bit sticky - and I was wondering if anyhow has 'reinvigorated' a binding like this - physically the parts are fine - they just dont have the same snap that my newer pivots have.

Certainly, there is a way. Just replaced the brakes on these for this mount.

You can take the heelpiece apart, I would guess yours are pretty mucked up and dirty after 18 years. Clean em and grease'r up, focusing on the hinge area, it helps

How do you take the heel apart? Is it just that little hole in the plastic cover that’s holding that piece on? I have tried to take them apart by backing the din screw out but it doesn’t seem to come apart that way. I don’t want to force anything. Thanks

I’ve tried to take heel pieces apart. It doesn’t seem to really come apart. Bindings are only supposed to be used for 10 years… you’re going on 20 maybe it’s time to hang them up?

Tough call they’re a sick colorway

Your bindings lasted 18 years?

i used a pair of 2003 pivots until 2 years ago, and still occasionally use them on my beater skis. probably (definitely) stupid but yes, it happens with pivots!

Depending on the year, and looks like yours have it, you'll need to drill out the coil pin that locks the plastic cover in place. It's the tiny hole near the DIN window. Don't worry about replacing it, the plastic covers stay on fine w/o it. Also careful when prying off the plastic cover not to break the DIN indicator. That thing is fragile. I have heels from 2003 with over 500 days on them still going strong.

Yes, then I used a small flat head to carefully pry off the plastic cover.

I was able to get new brakes. The toe piece is just a spring - they are really quite simple. The only thing is that heel piece is mushy. I'll let ya guys know how the heel refurb goes.
