Get a ruger .22, .222 or .223 semi auto.
Bolt action's are a waste of time unless you've got a large calibre gun.

I'm assuming all he would be doing is just shooting steel, otherwise I'd reccamend a .30-30, .45-70, or something of that nature. My buddies .45-70 was one of my favorite guns to shoot, and it will pretty much pwn anything you hit with it.

i know im only 13, but ive been shooting 22 since i was 7. Definitly buy a browning .22, bolt action semi-auto. mines has never jammed and iv had it for 3-4 years

22 is great for getting some range time since it is cheep.

shooting 100 rounds of 22 and shooting 100 rounds of 7.62 is very different.
