I would love some up/down voting incorporated into Newschoolers posts. As I get older, I get more and more tired of trawling through 'I'll take a seat here', 'Threads', 'Tahts sooo ghey' posts, especially when there is some worthwhile content in the NS threads.
A simple way to let users take the trash out would make everyone happier. If the users had a way of removing some extremely immature posts, maybe we wouldn't have the designation of 'Best Humor Site'.
Let us clean up our forum NS staff!
The format of this site has everyone addicted, from 10-year olds to some gray-haired bombers. However, as people mature, they grow tired of the childish content that is expected of any site that lets anyone join.
Lets say my idea was put in place;
Some user posts something totally unrelated to the thread, or something that most people would find annoying. If that post accumulated 5, 10, or however many downvotes, it would be hidden from view. Like Reddit, we would have the option of clicking to see what they said, so no one gets left out.
The possibilities are endless! Low-voted posts would be filtered out, good info would remain, and you could even incorporate the karma system into the voting feature.
I'm sure many people do the same thing as me. If I see a really annoying post, I put them at zero karma. What happens if this user posts some bullshit again and they are already at zero karma? I'd love to vote them down so their useless post gets filtered out.
What about the Mods? Sure, they remove offensive content, but what about the huge amount of USELESS content?
If this was some simple forum, I would let it slide, but Newschoolers is at a higher level than that. There are few forums that attract such a large base, and generate such an expansive amount of content.
