just learned they signed papelbon for 1 year 755,000 dollars

he got shafted for sure, im a NYY fan but i admit the kid has MAJOR talent, they should have given him 5 years $40 mil
 
Ya but he is a relief pitcher...if you paid him 5 years, $40 million you would have been the biggest idiot in baseball. That's as much as A-rod got, but Papelbon throws like 15 pitches every 4 days.
 
Your and idiot. Papelbon agreed to the contract...meaning he didnt care about more money. The difference between the Yankees and the Red Sox is that our players care about the team and franchise and not about their own personal salaries like Gay-Rod of Jeter.
 
papelbon was shooting for 900k. he definitely has more talent than that salary, but its only like his 3rd year so he'll get a fat stack in a few years.

and i forgot how much jeter doesn't care about the game. he really just wants so much money. yea he has a huge salary, but he's fuckin nice and loves the game. shut the fuck up.

I think this is actually not too bad. It is a fairly healthy raise (though I probably would have given him what he wanted, but I love the guy) but is only one year giving him a chance to build on his success and make a case for an even bigger contract next year. Which he could well get. 900k a year for 3 years, or one year at 757k and 2 or 3 more at 1.5 million+? I'd take the second. Papelbon is also eligible for salary arbitration after this year.
 
Have you ever compared the total salaries of the BoSox vs NYY? Not as large as a difference as you might think.

Also if a team offered you more money you trying to tell me you wouldn't make the move from last place texas to the Yankees? Not to mention the fact that A-rod suggested his only salary cut at texas in order for the franchise to get some more quality players.

yea, i think i'd be pretty satisfied with that much per year. Very happy as a matter of fact. Give it time though, he's still relatively new, in a few years he'll make more money.
 
aight im cool with u hatin on arod but ur fucking outa line hating on jeter, kid hasnt done anything wrong his whole career, when you think game-manship, you think jeter, he's a classic nice guy, cut the shit you obviously dont know much about the game
 
they wont. papelbon tried it last year and couldnt do it. he knows its bad physically for him and he would be more effective as closer
 
yeah but they dont need that much, other sports dont get paid that much and i would rather watch them over baseball
