im about to buy a new camera and red one is obviously the shit but i cant afford that shit. I need some suggestions for what is a fucking dankass camera. film or digital. please help

yeah been there ive checked out what i think is good. outside perspective would be greatly appreciated

If you have to ask what camera to buy for $3,000-$4,000, you shouldn't be dropping that kind of cash.

Buy an HV30 for $500 and go shoot.

hah thanks for your input. im just lookin for outside opinion. not someone flexing there camera savyness/knowledge. just looking for help.

I hate rich ignorant kids..

here you go.

i have a canon hv3. if you want to make high quality videos for a low cost, and you don't know much about settings and stuff yet, i highly recommend it.

outside opinion to what? what the fuck are you talking about? he gave you an option, and you chose to be a douche about it.

do some research yourself you asshole.

also, if you're willing to drop 3-4 grand on a camera, and you have no idea what you want, you might as well not get one worth that much, since you'll probably fuck it up, especially since you seem like a dumbass.

ahah you're all so quick to label this guy as ignorant, and a dumbass who shouldn't be buying a camera of this caliber. first of all, theres no tryout for buying a camera, thats the benifit of a free country. if this guy has 3-4000 that he wants to spend on a camera, who are you to say he shouldn't do that? i mean, i could be wrong and all you guys could be poser-bouncers at camera stores or something, but im fairly sure he can do whatever he wants lol. secondly, maybe this guy actually does know what he's doing and is trying to find options that he overlooked or didnt see when he was looking. maaybe he's trying to get suggestions without leading the answers in a certain direction. maybe he is an ignorant douche, who knows. but this is a pretty small issue to shit all over this guy for ahah. you went out of your way to trash this guy, who you dont know, on an opinion that doesnt seem to be based on any fact, its a little pathetic ahah.

side note - i have nothing to contribute to your camera situation, guy, sorry ahah.

Okay first of all, these are three completely different cameras - no offense, but you pretty much posted here that you don't know jack shit. Just saying.

Anyway, lets be serious now - what's your experience level? You need to realize that money and a nice camera don't make you a good videographer. It takes practice with both the camera and the motion and the shots to make one.

So if you've never shot anything besides with a Handycam, then maybe think about something more like a GL2 or HV30 to get you started, and either use the rest of the money on accessories - a good tripod is key - or save it for when you know what you're doing and should actually step up to a camera of HVX caliber.

(Yes, I just recommended a GL2 because it's a good starter camera with basic but educational manual controls. I can feel the force telling me I'll get dumped on but whatever).

As for right now, do your research. At this point, are you READY for a camera like the HVX? ...more importantly, is your computer ready? Because if you're comparing that to a TRV (I don't think Sony even makes those anymore) then you've really done a spotty job on research. If you're going to drop this much money on a cam, make sure you know what you want and that it's good for you, just saying.

Good luck man. Feel free to PM me if you think I can be of any further assistance.

First of all, scarlets not out and probably wont come out for 1year+. Cameras are a big investment, you shouldnt make the decission on just what someone in this forum says. Do some research. What features do you need. What are you going to be shooting? How often will you shoot? Are you looking for good quality or good control (yes you can have both but thats more expensive).

Hate to judge you but you don't seem very experienced in videography and 3k is alot of money. I would probably get a low end prosumer. Assuming you will be mostly filming skiing, you can play around with it till next winter and if your ready for a big purchase, sell it and upgrade

your a dipshit if you think thats what horner was saying.

his point is if you have to ask about it then you wont be able to use a high end video camera properly. Start off with something smaller and simpler to learn the ropes then dive in when you feel that camera is too limited. I know many people with a VX-2100 and their footage looks like total shit because they have no clue how to work the thing.

thats my 2 cents.

the fact that you put these cameras in the same category show that you shouldn't be using anything nicer than a cheap Best Buy camera for now.

why are you randomly droping the red one on us? thats retarded.. your going from the most insane out of reache 17000 dollar camera and then telling us you want cheaper, like 4 times cheaper.

get out.

just leave now.

maybe you should actually read what's going on here instead of trying to sound cool.

Explain your point. I don't mean to antagonize you in multiple threads, but seriously, why do you insist on trying to be such a sophisticated asshole?

So anyways, why CANT this kid buy whatever camera he wants? There are plenty reasons why he SHOULDNT, but to be an asswhole about it is just as bad as making an ignorant thread - if not worse.

That is the most ridiculous list of cameras to bundle together.

You have:

1. RED scarlet. = your computer wont be able to handle it, and you'll be lost completely. Have fun reading the user manual

2. Get ready to spend extra money on P2 cards if you wanna shoot anything. You'd be using auto on this.

3. This, well, is actually a good choice, since its about 10 years old, you might actually be able to use it. But here we drop to a 10 year old, SD cam.

4. wtf

Ahaha so predictable. Thanks for the entertainment, your a fucking joke, chump. I dont even care about whats going on here anymore, this is funny enough. I hope you pop up in more threads with your bullshit, that would just make my day everytime i saw it. Good luck with your career as a keyboard bad ass haha.

I didn't need to post in this thread, but figured it wouldn't hurt.

-First of all, the Scarlet is vaporware.

-Secondly, like someone said earlier in the thread, accessories will cost you more than the camera. And when someone says get a good tripod, they aren't fucking joking around. Expect to spend $500-$1500 if you are getting a big camera and are serious about getting good shots. That is a serious quote; a manfrotto 503 should be your lowest end tripod you consider (fluid head).

-Third, although I don't think there should be a prerequisite for buying an expensive camera, you really don't sound like you know anything. You said you did research, and I am calling Shenanigans. Do your fucking research, a lot of it.

-Lastly, thank you for posting in Media and Arts. It is nice to see the forum get used for the correct material.

First of all, You're a dumbass.
Second of all, WTF. HVX, Red Scarlet, PD150, TRV900? How did you come up with this list? To make it more random, I'm going to recommend the Arriflex SRII. It takes beautiful pictures onto 16mm film.

I actually came here hoping to get something out of it or at least put some knowledge into it. but instead i lol'd

Agreed. If you don't want to spend 40 grand. Pansonic HVX is the shit. ITs not too big. Shoots in 60i, 30P, 24P or 29.976 Frames Per second. If you somehow win the lottery the Red One would be nice too.

Hvx is out of his 3-4g pricerange..id probably get an hpx or ex1or3 if i was looking into a new cam over the hvx

... all 3 of which are also out of the price range, and most of which are more expensive than the hvx. Perhaps you mean the hmc? That's probably the best choice in that price range. But i dont think this guy has any idea how to work his way around a camera so I'm going to recommend the hv30. Save the money for your next camera if you still are into it.
