Red posted up info prices and pictures of its new cameras last night. if its as good as they expect them to be it will definatly be intresting to see what kinda impact they have on the Indy Comunity.

my faith in RED has been restored... I cannot wait until these cameras start coming out!!! granted that even if you buy the lowest costing Scarlet Brain, your setup will still probably end up costing over $7,000 after everything you need for it. This has me excited for next fall
 
I think the only way to go is get a scarlet S35 that way you can use Nikon or Canon lenses and are not conformed to only there lenses. But the price is 4x of the 2/3 and the 2/3 can shoot 120FPS so. most likely go with that one. I guess i better start eatting ramen.
 
Holy shit! 28k???? That is ridiculous. I think i'm going to have to save up for a scarlet. but which one...
 
people wont be dropping $55,000 for its still capabilities... it's just an added bonus. a 28k sensor is going to turn hollywood production upside down.
 
That is exactly what I was thinking. Why shoot film when you have this ridic sensor you can use instead?
 
Picture quality really isn't everything. 35mm looks pretty damn good on the big screen and the little screen. 85% of hollywood type movies are still shot on film, and they probably will be for the next 15-20 years
 
I just realized the camera above all the seperate modules are not connected this will not be nearly as streemline and sleek with 20 wires connectig the seperate modules.
 
I'm not saying this will or won't replace film, but resolution is only a small part of what makes an image look good, as I'm sure you realize.

I'd rather watch a low res video with amazing motion, color, and grain than an HD video with nothing to offer but a super and sometimes over-sharpened image.
 
You are a film lover though. I feel like that the 28k will produce amazing motion and color with a breathtaking image. And at 25fps it will be close to film action also. I can see the 28k being updated and modified and eventually taking over film for new producers and directors. I'm guessing the old/current guys will never stop using film.
 
yep . 35 gives the classic feel of a quality production.. 28k won't.
interesting jump in technology though.. but i'd still prefer to look at film
 
I wasn't referring to a "film look," I meant just good motion, color, and gain in general.

The reason I like film so much isn't because of the grain or color (although they are a big factor). I like film so much because the motion looks so similar to the way I see motion through my eyes. I've never seen HVX footage that looked "real"...everything looks too in focus. I'm probably going to get hate for this, but I didn't like the RED shots of Sammy in the TGR film for just that reason - the motion looked funky and unnatural.

If any company can make a digital HD camera that can perfectly emulate motion the way it is seen through my eyes, they will have my support. Until then, I'm sticking to my DVX's 30p mode with a 1/120 shutter.
 
no way, you can never have to man frame rates. Being able to shoot at high frame rates allows for incredible slow motion.
