It seems to have been a leak.

It is suppose to air in march on NBC.

If anyone has a download they should hook me up!

Im not trying to be the corporate bitch, but I'll bet NBC sponsored Travis Rice and Brainfarm loads of cash to put on this event.

That said, I think it's kinda fucked to pass around this leaked video. Yes, I saw it, and it was insane! But NBC (or other major TV networks) are going to be a lot less inclined to sponsor future events like this is they don't get exclusive rights to video.

Why? Because .01% of their audience saw the leaked video? Stop being a pussy.

whenever something leaks, i always wonder what happened for it to get out there... did someone accidentally upload it, did someone sneakily copy it from a computer and post it? i just don't know how something can "get out" like that, it's not like it's a dog and can "escape" on its own.

regardless, the video is sick, and if anyone wants it i will put it on my dropbox and send you a link for the HD version.

I'd say 95% of the time something "leaks" (video, new gadgets, whatever) is because they (whoever) want it to leak.

Wow. I cannot believe that they pulled that off on public land.
However, if it's public land, then public access? Does the permit that Baldface runs prevent others from going in there? And if not, then I'll set the skin track. Let's go.

Baldface's land is pretty hard to get to. Guests are flown into the lodge and then cat ski from there. You could get over there, but it would require a boat and a long bushwack.

Seriously? All the people in that article need to fucking relax. What about all the mountain biking trails that require kids making 'chainsaw improvement'. There not bitching about those kids but of course travis rice cuts down some tree's and everyone is up and arms.

Not to mention how many trees had to be cut down to build a standard ski hill

99% of the time it's a publicity stunt. When the real thing airs, they're going to have a full show on it, not just a 4 minute video. So why was this video made and edited like it was? Hype!

Heli/cat tenures are given out for crown land (public). They only have the rights for commercial operation on that land. Everything else is fair game. If you have a cat, you can drive it up there. More like than that, bust out a sled and roop it up.

I am curious if guests will ever be brought to that zone.

this. although as stated before if your gonna try and make it up to baldface you need a boat, a sled, and a lot of knowledge of the woods around nelson. all i can say is good luck. you would be better off trying to poach almost any other cat operation in that area to be honest as far as ease of access goes. ive gotten a rundown of how they used to to get their supplies and things up to baldface by jeff himself, and its a hell of a journey. boat, sled, cat, ect. as of the last few years, jeff just helis in all his supplies. a little more spendy, but much easier and less dangerous for his homies.

you don't need a boat to get up there. If you have a sled it's around 16km up a logging road (from Taghum) to the bottom of the course. If you don't have a sled, it's about a 8 or 9km skin up (from 6 mile) to the top of the ridge across the drainage from the course.

Not easy to get to, but you definitely do not need a boat. How do you think those logging trucks get in in the summer?

Even though practically all cat/heli operations are on crown land, meaning the public is allowed to use them at any time, most operations and locals have an unspoken agreement along the lines of: When the operation is, well, operating, the sledders stay out of their terrain. This is more important in certain places (like Big Red Cats, Retallack, and Wildhorse) because they are pretty much right on the side of the highway.

Valhalla Powdercats had an issue years ago because they had their first tenure in a very popular sledding (and sled accessed skiing) zone in the area. The two sides couldn't agree, leading to road blocks and threats of violence. This resulted in Valhalla Powdercats having to move to a new location deeper in the Valhalla Range and a restraining order against certain members of the community. In the end though, mostly everyone got what they wanted.

A) Who gives a shit, yea I saw the video but I'll still watch it when it airs on NBCandB) If NBC really cared they would have advertized this way more, aka a 30 second spot during the later part of the superbowl (although that's pretty far fetched) and also they wouldnt be airing this a month from now, they'd be airing it next week.

Environmental Impact? You've got to be kidding me.

I'm taking environmental tech in college right now and the only "environmental protection" aspect we have learned is how dumb the general public is with matters like this.

I don't think they are necesarily referring to the actual impact of cutting down the trees, but rather the impact that cutting down 70 trees and showcasing that to millions of people who might get the same idea will have. It sounds as though they went through the right channels and did everything properly as far as scope and potential impact goes. Also, if that's all you've learned so far from your program, you are still included as a member of that general public.

Out of all the millions of people who see this and get the idea, there's probably only a handful that actually will do it.

Haha, yeah, I don't think just any old Joe will see that shit and start cutting down faces all around the wilderness. That's like saying that shooting games are responsible for gun crime.

It doesn't matter if people cut down small sections of forest, it will grow back, this isn't the rainforest.

they even blow it in the teaser and say travis won...lol terrible teaser

it's surprisingly not too far off. There's a zone in the interior of BC that is considered an "inland temperate rainforest" It goes from just south of Revelstoke to McBride. Baldface sits around 150km south of that zone. It's a very unique and beautiful ecosystem...

but even in a rainforest, trees grow back.

I saw the leaked video, I was pretty disappointed it. The features weren't realistically built, none of the riders could really throw anything creative on them like I had hoped, just a lot of flailing..

thought you guys would be interested...Trevor Reese aka (.......) and friends jump skiboards at Rad Bowl Ballfest Mountain

HURRY UP!
