Recommend me a skateboard

Yo guys,

So I'm pretty much done skiing for the season :( and I really need a hobby to keep keep my sanity, which isn't easy in Iowa these days. But anyways, I was thinking of picking up skateboarding just for the hell of it. I'm not really sure what set up I should get though and I know some people on here skate so help me out! I don't really want to spend more than like $150. And I have to order off the internet, no skate shops around.

I'm 5'9", 135 lbs, and I have pretty much no experience skateboarding. If you need any more info to make a recommendation, let me know.

I'm also not sure if this belongs in NSG or gear talk. Figured gear talk is a bit more serious though.

Finally, I'm not talking about longboarding to be clear.

Any recommendations would be appreciated, with karma of course!

 
I skateboard and I've ridden element,blind,almost,plan b, baker, death, flip and a couple of other boards. My favorite board was always my almost, they were the lightest most durable board I owned, I found blind delamed as did element and baker. Plan-b and flip were alright but felt heavier than my almosts and death is a uk brand so I'm not sure if you can get you hands on one
 
If I could recommend anything it would be some aggressive inline skates. I used skateboard A LOT during the summer and the transition back to skiing kinda sucked. Inline you can get way more creative and it feels pretty similar to skiing. 2's on and off are so much fun. So give inline a try and you won't regret it.
 
The Deluxe (DLXSF) 8.06x32 shape is probably the best shape I've ever ridden (Real, Krooked, Anti-Hero). Cliche used to make a sick board back in the days they got their stuff done at the Chapman Woodshop but now its all done by Dwindle they don't feel as good to me. I've ridden just about everything and DLX seem the most consistently good to me anyway.

I skated 12 years and was spancerized for a while before the injuries kicked in but now i'm feeling pretty bitter about it because injuries from skateboarding are damaging/preventing my skiing. I think i've finally hung up my board for good at least in terms of doing tricks.
 
Thanks for the help guys! I'll take a look at those options and figure it out from there.

Any ideas on like trucks, wheels (gettin my skateboard technical jargon down), and other hardware?
 
Hardwear does not matter. Anything will hold your board together, wheels you can either go harder or softer. Softer wheels are grippier and will roll over stones easier while harder wheels are more slippery. Skating is really all about preference. Most well known board companies are relatively the same, other than the board shape, witch again is all preference. If you have any friends that skate try out their stuff if you can. It does not really matter if you are just starting but once you know what you like you might get a little more picky about the above things. Bearings I would go with bones reds, cheap and nice. Trucks I would think about krux or silver.
