Recommend me a pocket knife

Get a switchblade. I've never shanked anyone with mine but I've used it for opening a ton of packages, fixing a bunch of fencing in the park, cutting things, and anything else that doesn't involve sticking people.

What are the legal restrictions on Switch blades? I think they might be legal in my state, are they places to buy nice ones that are inexpensive online?

i think all knives with a 3 inch blade is considered a weapon and you need a permit to buy/carry it

alright chill thats why i said I THINK so obviously what i thought was wrong. no need to get your panties in a bunch

Automatic knives are restricted at the federal level. Assisted knives are not. If knives of any length are restricted in your state it is probably time to find a new state.

lots of states have restrictions on gravity knives, butterfly knives, and spring action knives. best thing to do is read up about the exact rules of your state, county, or city, because they can all vary.

yo op if your trying to save money just pick this shit up

HUMILIATED

The best fighting knife in the world is the v-42 boker makes a good one. Don't get a tomahawk the strikes are too predictable

hope that worked..its a kershaw and i loved this knife, its an auto assist but its not a utilitarian knife, i used it for more as a personal defense knife, it never got an inch of play in the mechanism, despite thousands of times being opened and closed, and it was a very fast opening knife, and its sharp af. but when i look for a new knife i try to keep it to american made, not the cheap mass produced chinese crap...

love this knife, broke it yesterday trying to stab it into my ceiling but its got a lifetime warranty so fuck yeah Leatherman!

also comes with a little brother version, costs $25 so inside OP's budget. looks the same but only has the blade and pliers, and doesnt have the carabiner clip part. its called the Freestyle and looks like this

not much bigger than a bic when folded up, super sleek, awesome knife.

and a lifetime warranty too. dont go for a single locking blade, pliers are hands down the most useful thing. i use them every day (and makes a great roach clip)

it may be around 200 but it's fuckin sick my buddies have these and they're sick. they're switchblades that are for "show" but they just use them, they soo fuckin sick, and they don't break either!

it's made by benchmade, but just has the H&K sign on it, they had Benchmade make it for them.

Spyder co makes some sick shit too

oh and ive never used one of these but saw it and thought they looked cool just because of how small it is

called the SOG Access Card, super thin and about the size of a credit card when folded up

looks pretty badass too. so if you need something super low profile for some reason (assassination attempts?) this thing looks bitchin

I personally use this for most everything... but I don't know, doesn't fit well in my pocket. You get used to it though!

I got the kershaw chill for like $17 on amazon and it gets the job done

it's not assisted opening, so you don't need to worry about trouble with the law, but it has a flipper that can open the knife with one hand just as fast as assisted opening

image-ker-3410_open.jpg

also pretty lightweight, I forget I'm carrying it sometimes when its clipped inside my pocket

Kershaw-1660-rw-10598-31153.jpg

kershaw leek with assisted opening, easily the sharpest knife from the factory I have ever seen, plus the assisted open is flawless. It's also nice and sleek, fitting in a pocket really well.

I used to have this knife. My uncle gave it to me at his wedding. I lost it two years later. Still pissed about that...

I got one of these at Walmart for $20. Gerbers have a solid blade, partially serrated and partially straight. Only downside is its a tad on the thick side for keeping in your pocked.

I also have a sypderco that is really nice, but I'm not a fan of the fully serrated blade. Much thinner than the Gerber.

Some of the replies in here are just silly. Yes, you get what you pay for so i would bump up another twenty or thirty if it's gonna be your everyday carry.

Any Gerber you find at Walmart is not worth it and will go to shit within 6mos to a year.

Spyderco? Seriously? These are amazing knives but the OP clearly stated around $35 which is $100 off their base model.

Go for a Kershaw, Gerber, SOG (preferably) with "Assisted Opening". If you're gonna spend money on a knife you wanna have for a while pay $50ish for a nice one like this because they are way better than the Wally World knives and i would never buy a folder that wasn't auto or assited opening ever again. Easiest to use and quickest with one hand.

Who ever suggested a switch-blade, fuck off.

If you have an assisted opening around 3.5 or smaller you will also probably never face a legal problem either. The Clymb has some really nice SOG's with assisted opening up right now and they get a new collection of them every couple of weeks or so.

PM if you need, would be happy to help.

All of SOG's assisted opening knives are crap.

Any assisted opening knife under $100 is most likely crap.

I can open an Emerson Commander (non assisted) faster than you can open most assisted, or even auto knives.

The CRKT M21 or M16 are the best 'bang for your buck' and the only folders (non multi tools) under $100 that I would consider.

I try and have 3-4 knives on me at any given time

1. Multi tool (wave or charge TTi, in sheath, off hand back hip)

2. Fixed blade self defense (front strong side belt line)

3. General use folder (strong side back pocket, next to drop wallet)

4. Back up self defense punch dagger on my off hand side (next to spare mag)

came here to post this. You'll be spending more than 35 bucks but a true lifetime warranty is always worth the price difference. Their knives are lightyears ahead of other quality blades like kershaw. USA made unlike almost all the rest.

Sidenote, all the sickest knives are oregon companies (gerber, kershaw, Benchmade, Leatherman) thanks to the old fur trapping days.

I'm hoping to pick one of these up soon. You put your fingers through the holes so you can grab stuff or handle stuff without putting the knife down or dropping it. It also doubles as a fighting knife/steel knuckes. Note that if this is used a steel knuckles the blade will be a "knuckle."

agreed, my dad gave me an opinel when i was about 7-8 that was his from when he was around that age. Ive had a few over the years, those blades never seem to get dull.

I believe Washington state has restrictions on Blade length (3.5" folding?) although maybe that's just Seattle.

I know you said pocket knife and not multitool, but whoever suggested the Leatherman Skeletool, I agree with them. I personally have carried a Leatherman Wave on my hip for the past 5 years, and its assisted me with more tasks than I could list right now.

Otherwise, I like the SOG Trident or Trident mini with the Tanto blade.

combracommander,

do you live in fucking somalia or something?

please justify the carrying of four knives and a spare mag at all times. especially if two knives are specifically for self defense haha you must get attacked a lot.

i live in canada, where above a 4in blade is illegal, so my personal favourite is my coldsteel tilite. looks like a switch blade, but is a folding lock blade. no assist, but is a pocket-trip so when you pull it out it deploys (if you want, takes a bit of a twist and pull for it to deploy) and it has a second edge half in, so to have dual blades it takes about 20 minutes with a sharpener. pretty nice, looks cool and is super useful, especially if you want quick one handed deployment.

Once something happens to you, and you happen to be unprepared, you never seem to leave the house unprepared ever again. I always carry a full tang k-bar for self defense, sometimes a boot knife, usually packing something else too. point is you never know when some fool wants your car, gf, wallet... so why not be ready to put a few holes in them?

I need to get a pocket knife or a swiss army knife still undecided.

My dad has a leatherman and it is boss.
