Recommend me a laptop

Right so it appears my old toshiba laptop has finally decided to become a paperweight, leaving me in the market for a new laptop. I'm not entirely convinced on a macbook, so go ahead and start persuading. Otherwise I've been looking at samsungs and liking them quite a bit.

I really just use my laptop for regular stuff; write papers, and as an ns access machine. No editing or music shit.

Ideal would be under $1000 but I'm willing to go slightly over if it makes a significant difference

mmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacccccc bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbooooooooooooooookkkkkkkkk PPPPPRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

mac, because you can get super good programs that run windows, but there are no good windows programs that run macs, the one i am on is 3 years old and it runs like i got it yesterday, there super nice.

this is the cheapest MBP you will probably find..

http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD313LL/A

but, if youre a student, you can get a brand new 13" mbp for 1100, but 90 bucks could be significant to you.

i can almost guarantee this computer will last you 5-6 yrs at least. My buddies old mac book from 2007 still runs just fine and all he did was school shit and music. Show me a windows laptop that old...

I am a PC fanboy until I die. This is because I build my own desktops and I love to game on them, I am also extremely comfortable with the inner-workings of the Windows operating system.

That being said, if I was ever going to get a laptop, it would definitely be a MacBook. The form factor, the build quality, and the ease of use are unmatched in the laptop world. Since you said around $1,000, it seems that a MacBook would be right for you. From what I have seen, you could squeeze a good 4 years out of one. Remember, you get what you pay for.

The only reason I would not get a MacBook is if I wanted to save money.

If you want to go for a Windows laptop, then message me and I will help find the right one for you. I am very knowledgeable in the area of computers, and I'll work hard to find exactly what you need.

Although im a avid windows fan, i approve the MBP message. durable everything, from what i know about PUTERS. which is so super much

Like if u just browse the web and stuff then get an iPad...absolutely love mine but I use my crappy laptop to type documents, edit stuff, ect.

At the moment primarily school stuff. But thats coming to a close soon. Plus any computer can be used to write a paper. Otherwise just standard stuff. Long battery life and portability are a bit important too since I'm probably going to be traveling with it a bit

yeah i agree with most people in the thread. baseline MacBook.

i've had mine since ... 2008 I think...still going strong as ever. never had one problem with it

Seems like macbooks really are the way forward. and for what it's worth I don't plan on using it for games or anything. Just need a good computer that will last

im using a samsung chronos series 7 right now. and i highly recommend it. mine has an intel core i7 processor and a amd radeon graphics card. 15 inch screeen.750 gb hd. a mac book pro with the same components and same screen size will cost .$2,200. my samsung was 850$ (on sale, got a great deal, prob around 1000$ when not on sale). both will perform similar. but of course mine runs windows and the mac runs osx lion. so if your looking for a high quality laptop besides an apple that isnt super expensive then look into the chronos series. and you wont even need the series 7 if your not editing/gaming/etc. the series 5 has a i5 proccessor and the 3 series has a i3. if your only gona be typing shit/social networking sites/newschoolers.com then a i3 proscessor will be more than enough processing power. so my point to this is you can get a nice laptop for pretty cheap. but what it comes down to is personal preferencee.so dont just get one online. definatly just check out laptops at a store and compare them side by side cuz then you can really tell which ones r quality. i almost bought a toshiba satillite online but when i checked it out in person i hated it. it was thick and felt cheap. lots of plastic. so i ended up with the chronos 7 and i love it. metal casing looks sexy and feels solid. its thin. it just feels good compared to other ones. so my other point is go find out what you like in person. good luck with it dude. hope this helps

this statements negates everything you just said. The same components doesn't mean anything.

how doesnt it? yes there are many differences between the 2 but these components are a big part in the overall performance.

The operating systems and the software used by each is much different. Just because a windows laptop has the same components as a mac laptop doesn't necessarily mean it will be the same just different price.

Build quality - winner Mac

Warrantee service - winner Mac (Apple care beats all)

Software - IMO winner Mac (but thats just me)

Overall life of computer - winner Mac. show me a windows laptop older than 4 years old, ever time i have a friend with a windows laptop after about a year it has shit the bed

Components - tie

thats the difference between your samsung windows computer and a MBP. You get what you pay for IMO.

My mom has had her windows laptop for about 5 years maybe more now. But then again. She had to replace the battery cord like 7 times. Reformat the hard drive like twice. Plus it's super slow and shitty.

build quality- debatable. i use macs all the time. and comparing the two, i am actually very impressed with the samsung. you should see for yourself

warrantee- i agree on this. definatly good service. i actually own a mac desktop, so i can relate.

software- personal preference. i use both and like both. although if a computer noob, then mac is the way to go just because of its simplicity.

overall life- cant say whos better. too many variables to accurately measure this.

components- yes, tie

sorry if you thought i was saying they were the same. they are much different, but also similar at the same time.

I bet its slow as fuck. Even high end MBPs from 2006 shit themselves with the flash heavy webstes of 2012.

5 years on my dell latitude. Never had to get it serviced once plus still get 3.5 hours off a battery life......

my acer laptop going into its sixth year of service. runs fast, never had to get it serviced, viruses that i have gotten have been taken care of easily by me, and i download and game the shit out of that thing. only complaint is that the fan can get a little noisy after a few hours of use.

macs are dope, but so are PC's.

suck it eheath.

this is my brothers laptop. he bought it in 2005 for close to $2000 with a whopping 512 mb memeory and 20 gb harddrive. now it has 2 gb of memory and he uses an external tb harddrive. he reinstalls xp every year and it still functions at respectable speeds not really any slower than when he got it. if you buy a top of the line computer and perform regular maintenance/scans it can last for years. if you are dumb and get all kinds of viruses and dont do anything about them then you are an idiot and deserve to use a idiot proof mac. plus if you ever run into a problem you can take it to the monkeys at the genius bar

hey bro, I'm the same as you.

I got a macbook air. when it comes to the basics like browsing and for processing and what not its after than macbook pros. It also has a super long battery life, is super portable, has a higher resolution green than the other macs, and its all solid parts.

its just really convenient to whip out quick if you need to check something on your computer. no boot up times or anything.

i have been using pcs for year for everything except gaming (i just bought an xbox for $200 cause gaming computers are a waste of money) and i like my mac way more. At first i have windows installed on my mac also so i could use it, but i totally just stopped using it and deleted it. I have the 13inch

the fact is, that it was slow as fuck when he got it, in 2006...

and reinstall every year lol

For you I would say a macbook pro, but a high end pc is more capable and cheaper if you know what you're doing, most people just don't.

Whats the general consensus on asus? No one I know has one so I've never used one and have nothing to judge it on. But with that said I have read done very good reviews

My macbook is going on 4 years this summer and still runs like it did the first day I got it. In that time I've had several friends in college who had to replace their pc, and my parents have replaced our home laptop and desktop which were about the same age. I plan on this macbook getting me through grad school and then some, and at the rate its going it could last me another 3-4 years as long as I didn't want to update.

honestly, the chrono series from samsung is a sick laptop.

like discussed earlier, a macbook and samsung are prolly your best bet. i just bought the series 7... great processor, 6 gigs a ram, 750gb hard drive, samsungs screens are super sick. the shell is made out of metel, so its durable, its light, and the battery life is great.

or you have the macbook, which is also a great computer.. i dont know much about them cuz i'm a windows user.. so yea.
