As the title says, My Nikon 50 1.8 may need some replacing and someone out there know's a whole lot more about lenses than i do. +K for helpful posts

For video, either check out the nikon 50mm 1.4 ais or the pentax smc 50mm 1.4 and the nikon 35mm f2.

For photo, id check out the nikon 50mm 1.4D (i think) and 35mm 1.4D (i think)

my 50mm 1.8 is from 1973 (38 years)

my 20mm 2.8 is from 1990 (21 years)

my 80-200 2.8 is from 1998 (13 years)

why you buying new lenses?

Don't buy any lenses that need an adapter, and don't buy Nikons 35/2. That might be a decent suggestion if you were a PJ and this was 1997, but I doubt its either. Is there a reason you are replacing it? You said you 'might' need to. As far as suggestions, I don't really recommend buying both, especially if you are trying to buy fast glass. The 35/1.4G will run you a nice $1650+. If I were you I would look into Sigma's version of both those lenses, either the 50/1.4 or the 30/1.4. Both are good lenses and can be had for a fraction of Nikons. I think the 30/1.4 comes around the same price as nikons 35/2 but gives you a stop and a half more, and actually handles CA way better than the Nikon. Or if you are looking for a Nikon 35/1.8G, Im selling one, you can pm me and we can talk if you are interested.

He said for photo, so I assume he wants AF, so I was referring to the D version of the 35/2. Theres just nothing special about it, slow, standard lens with horrible CA. Might of just been my copy, but I've never bought, then sold a lens so fast in my life. And the D version runs for over $250.

Why are you buying a fast 50 and a fast 35? might just be shooting style, but those are too close of focal lengths for me to see that as worth it when you are just building a kit and don't have a specific reason.

I would go for a faster 50 and a midrange zoom, or just save your money.

It's also not worth upgrading a 1.8 to a 1.4 unless you really have a reason, the difference is negligible, and unless you buy the 1.4G, it's the same build as the 1.8D

I wouldn't want to fuck with a lens without AF when dealing with a lens with such a thin depth of field and photo resolutions.
