Recommend a softshell

Hey, I'm looking for a softshell jacket for around 150. I was looking at the 686 Vitals Saville Technical and it seems decent and I can get it for like 100. I'm by no means an experienced softshell shopper and was wondering if you guys have any suggestions or own any softshells that you love.

Thanks.

there is a BIG difference between what a lot of companies call a soft shell, and what a real softshell is. For a legit one, look at marmot, patigonia, mtn hardware, arcteryx, and the north face.

orage makes a super nice one next year. to be honest i dont remember the name of it, but its clutch. Super waterproof and actually fits pretty big.

mammut and cloudveil tend to be good quality and slightly cheaper than arc'teryx so you should look into thosei have a mammut softshell that they don't make anymore but it's sooo dope, anything from a high quality company will be good but it's gonna cost more than 150, probably around 250

Yeah I know they have ridiculous softshells... I was thinking of the cheaper ones. I'm not climbing everest or anything, just living in Boston, something that keeps the rain and wind off and is fairly light... maybe even light enough to wear in summer evenings?

Sounds like the 686 deal is decent. Any other suggestions, doesn't have to be from super legit companies because I am not doing anything super intense in it. Maybe some hiking and camping, but not in extremes.

alright thanks for all the help, I'm gonna keep doing some research and its summer now so Im gonna try and put of the purchasing for a little while. +karma for all

i would say if you don't have a specific one in mind then look for:

-breathable

-not too tight

-not too heavy

-doesn't need to be super warm, that's not the point of a softshell

-not bulky at all, they're supposed to fit normally and be able to go under a technical hardshell

-try to get one from a credible company, you save money by getting a super good one once as opposed to a bunch of cheaper ones

-don't be afraid to spend money

i think someone said it higher up, but Sessions is real nice quality. not exactly cheap but if youve got 150 to spend its worth a look

i have a mountain hardwear gear conduit softshell size L and Black.

It kept me extremely warm for a shell.

pm me an offer if ur interested.
