Ok... I saw this video about 5 months ago, I am a Marine, and I work in an attack helicopter squadron, what you guys don't see in this vidoe is what happened before the helicopter opened fire on those Iraqis. This event actually happened during the war itself. Not to far from where this happened ws an encampment of Army personel, and every friday night, like clockwork they'd come under mortar attack from a field just west of their position. So one friday night the Army decided to do something about it, as luck would have it these guys hadn't finished setting up their mortar tubes yet. Now I know that last fact sounds fishy after watching the video, but laster inspection after the stike they found mortars and grenades in the bigger truck. In my opinion it's better to go in with an Apache an fuck them up from a mile away than send a squad in and risk losing more men, I don't give a shit how inhumanly those guys were put away, it doesn't matter when your dead. Their bodies weren't left out in that field to rot, they were buried in a nearby muslim cemetary. I was in Iraq at this time, and the pilots in my squadron were faces with the same type of things, and I saw the footage of some of our attacks. It's war, and people will die. In respects of our policy on combating terrorism. As a servicemember it's my duty to follow the orders of our president, so I have no room to protest, even if I don't wholly agree on how it's being handled. Our country suffered an unprovoked attack, and you can't argue with that. I had the chance to interact with the local people in Iraq, and many other of the Arab nations, and one thing I can say is they are very dedicated to their beliefs, all of them. And on the same note many of them are uneducated, which makes it easy for tribal leaders and clerics to get as many people as they have to hate America, because it's easy. Our nation is extremely powerful, and I do believe that we do go overboard in keeping our interests protected abroad. But there is no reason why these people need to fight us, we intend to leave, but all we want is to ensure that Iraq is a stable region before we leave, and no one need question the logic in that. If you do than you have some thinking to do. I say again, the men on the video were blown the fuck away, but they were not innocent farmers, they were combatants, who had killed, and they got their due in full!

Did we murder terrorists in Afghanistan before 9/11 in order to make them have a reason for them to murder Americans? Terroism is violence or the threat of violence, especially bombing, kidnapping, and assassination, carried out for political or idiological purposes. They have their own agenda and they don't care what it takes to realize it. Currently not only is America fighting the threat of terroists, but many others as well. Of course recently the insurgents in Iraq have been able to convince some countries to leave, which in the long run gives the insurgents more leverage, especially in an area such as the Middle East. Trying to defend these guys that were combatants in a war is just wasting your time. The laws of war and aggression are hard to grasp for people that haven't been in a place where you're forced to make tough desicions where lives are at stake. The fact is after May 1st there've been almost 600 service members killed, not just Americans, but British, Spanish, and Polish, and if I'm leaving some out it's only because I'm only stating what I know. Instead of mourning the deaths of 3 Iraqi men who were known to be conducting mortar attacks, why don't you spend your time thinking about your own countrymen who are there being killed trying to keep the peace in rebuilding a country that they've never been to, and probably wouldn't care too much to see it go to hell. The fact is we're still there to see Iraq recover from a oppressed poverty stricken country, and see it become something better than it was. In the end all of humanity wants to live in safety, and pursue a happy, worry free existence. I'm not saying that's what Iraq will eventually become, because that would take a sweeping change in the way the people think over there, which will take alot longer than anyone would be willing to occupy a country in order to ensure it's security. If it becomes an argument of idiology, we're not over there now as combatants, or as an occupying force of a wartime aggressor. Believe it or not the majority of Iraqis want us there, they were more than happy when we overthrew Saddam, I was there... The people that are causing the resistance now aren't actaully Iraqi's at all, and that's why the news is repoting them as Insurgents. And as long as there's greed, and oppression, strong religios beliefs that can be scewed by a war lord who calls himself a cleric of the church (the same thing happened in Catholosicm during the Crusades; which we can directly link to today's muslim terroist beliefs...) It's true that some injustices will happen, and innocent people will die, and that's the nature of war. But it goes both ways. The man behind the tractor was hiding... But don't think was just so happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time...

US supplies israel with weapons and funding to kill palestinians.

US instates dictator Shah for iran.

US supplies new iraqi regime with weapons and funding to kill iranians

US gives iranians weapons to kill iraqis.

(those 2, are the reasons for the mass graves found near baghdad, and not sadam hussein's 'insanity')

US trains afghans to kill russians

US abandons afghans, and leaves them to fight a bloody civil war.

US removes at least 10 leaders of south and central america, most of them democratically elected, because of different trade ideaologies.

US vetos decision for UN to enter Rwanda where 700,000 people are ethnically cleansed.

So what exactly am i saying? The US did many wrong things, and when the shit has finally hit the fan, in the form of 9/11, they blame it on everbody else but themselves. Thats why you got hit in the first place.

you just gave 10 examples of miscues by the us, in approx. 150 years of history, ten mistakes. not all of which were mentioned are fully supported. every government or even business entity makes mistakes, every one. when business' make their mistakes, they simply lose money or lose face. if a smaller country makes a mistake it's less documented and nobody takes as much notice as when the US does. the bottom line is the US is the most powerful country in the world, and the root of power is stemmed from success, the US is a success. perfect, absolutely not, but none the less a successful country. and why terrorists hit the US, because they wanted to be heard and what better venue to be heard, the largest most successful country.

^Actually, most of what he said was directly related to goings-on of the present day. Not the bay of pigs, though. I fail to see how that relates... might as well have put the Alamo up there. That's just common sense. Where I'm not exactly with you, pete, is where you imply that the states had it coming to them because of all of that. They had to do something in Afghanistan, and I had no problem with that war. But as for that video, well... I guess that just shows you some of the types who voluntarily enlist for military service. If you're going to hire people expressly for the purpose of killing human beings, you're bound to get a few whack jobs. Unfortunately, some of those whack jobs are in a position to issue orders...

You cannot deny they did not have a motive for their attack. Allbeit a horrendus attack.

America actions are what caused the attack and they should learn that they cant stamp on people and not expect them to get fucked off. ^Actually due to several isolation acts in the 30s, the US had little to no involvement overseas until the Lend Lease act of 1941, by which they assisted Britain in getting armaments. So I'm almost positive Pete's right about that part.

Before the truman doctrine, there really havent been many 'foreign incidents', i think the truman doctrine created the attitude that 'the american way is right, and everything else is wrong' attitude. The bay of pigs was one of the first examples of full usage of the truman doctrine, and it was also a mass failure.

I used to believe that pro-activeness was the key to success. However, there are times when a nation must die a little, must grow a little, must change a little on its own. Its called evolution of society, and by invading another country, you create an unstable element which jeopardizes that very evolution. There are conflicts that should be prevented, but not one country should decide when to go, and when not to go, (which is why i strongly disagree with the veto in the UN). i'm really tired now, so i dont know if this makes any sense, but it could...
