Really need help. Golf problem

ok so yesterday i golfed 36 holes. i played good on some holes had good shots but overall i played like shit. my main problem was my driving. every drive i had was a complete slice. the ball would go straight for a ways then just out of nowhere slice like no other. i tried to aim more to the left to counter act it but that didnt help whatsoever. One hole i aimed so far to the left, i hit, sliced like CRAZY hit the left side of the fairway and rolled all the way across the fairway into the rough on the right side. how do i fix slicing my ball and hit it straight again cause whoever golfes on NS knows when you play a bad round of golf it is the most frustrating thing in the world. Help pwease.

Sounds like your not completely bringing the club head around. It may sound foolish but do a couple baseball swings with your club and feel how your wrists automatically come around and turn. This is the feeling you should have when your swinging through the ball. Do a couple baseball swings then try it out focusing on the turnover of the wrists if that makes sense.

Head still, stand tall, elbow in.

grip and swing path is your main problem i assume. watch some videos on youtube about grip. also, the more you aim left, the harder it is going to slice

Youre probably slicing because youre coming over the top on your downswing. When you swing down, think about swining from 6 o'clock to 1 o'clock, swing out through the ball. Try looking at the inside back quarter of the ball as you swing and think about hitting that part of the ball.

Another way to help this is to keep your right elbow/upper arm (assuming you're a righty) against your torso as you make your downswing.

Also, try and maintain a slower tempo throught your whole swing. Count to 3 slowly in your swing... as in, 1 - backswing, 2 start the downswing and finish on 3.

Also helps to make sure you get your hands through... don't block the ball, make sure when you follow through your right hand is on top of your left. I don't think thinking about your hands is a great idea usually though, as its more of a feel thing... if you're thinking about it too much you'll end up fucking around with them too much and cause more problems.

go see a swing coach. no one here can help you without seeing you swing, and even seeing your swing, i doubt many people on here can help you.

i like to golf, i dont live and breath it, but play a couple times a week, shoot decent.

i saved up $100, went to get a private lesson from a certified professional, and it was the most instant and exstensive improvment on my game ever. we just looked at my swing.

i literally swung the club, he came over, moved my legs here, this far apart, this close to the ball, dropped this arm, straigtened that, gave me a handy, pointed my shoulders here, beltbuckle there and boom, dropping bombs ever since.

slow down your back swing alot. and when you start bringing the club back around dont just try to fucken smash it, try to turn over your club face all the way. that was my problem, like i had that exact problem as you. also if you have 400$ to spend get the R11 Driver you can manipulate the head and make it correct for what you are doing wrong such as if you have a massive slice you move the head to Closed and that helps you not slice it as much. you can also adjust the degrees but really try hard to get your club face closed when you make contact with the ball. and try to get your stance straight, having a messed up stand such as one foot is farther back then the other can cause a slice also. hope i helped :D

yeah if you're serious about golf, it's gonna take a lot more than NS to get you shooting just bogey golf.

almost all amateurs slice, which is caused by an open clubface at impact. check alignment and grip, those are the two major causes of a slice. line up directly at your target with a neutral grip. take the club back nice and slow, keeping the left elbow (if you're righty) as straight as possible. At the top of your swing, the club should be parallel with the target line. start your downswing nice and slow, don't swing hard right off the bat. keep your eye on the back of the ball and maintain that cocked wrist angle as long as possible, that's where you generate power. as you contact the ball, turn the forearms over and swing through the ball, posting hard into your left leg. then follow through nice and smooth. remember to never take your eyes off the ball and swing nice and slow with a big arc.

i didnt read your whole post. but bogey golf is good? i dont think sooo..... i get in the high 30's low 40s. bogey golf is like 45-46 which i think he pretty bad.

I am pretty sure I know what your problem is. In you down swing you are probably Comong outside and on top of the ball. This means that you are probably starting your downswing with your shoulders instead of your hips. To start your down swing your first move should be your hips witch will cause the club to come from the inside and promote a draw. Also on your follow through assuming you are right handed try to throw your club out and to the right. You can practice this with all your clubs eventhpifh you are saying your driver is the problem it is only because it had the least forgiveness.

finish your swing out (pushing opposite of body) and don't close your club face. Most people think this is why you slice but if you try it i promise its not. It might be scary the first couple of times but it will work if you do both. This is the only advice that ever worked for me.

scratch golfers shoot 36 on 9 holes. if you're really that good, that's cool. when most people start playing golf, they usually shoot over 100 on 18. bogey golf is definitely something to work at, unless everyone is as amazing as you.

scratch golfers? im not good at all. trust me. im barely varsity at my highschool golf team. but im a sophomore so there are much older people who can hit 300 and i can hit like 220. that is true almost everyone who starts playing golf shoots in 100s. on one of the opposing high schools girl team they have a girl who shoots 180-200 every time. god i couldn't imagine playing with her. id leave. but at least she is giving it her all and playing like a champ. i for one would quit golf if i kept shooting 180-200. and i am for one NOT NOT NOT amazing at golf. i suck ass at it.

these scores would get me in the tour? hell no. you have to shoot like under to even do good at the tour. and i play at like decent places. but if i went in the tour and played at some place such as hawaii id shoot REALLY BAD. and then people would look at me like the worst golfer ever. ill join the tour when someone or some company recognizes me for my scores. but right now, no one has. so ill keep playing and playing. sorry for doub post. well unless someone has already posted above me.

i dont keep handicap. havent had a need to yet. im only 16. i will get one soon. and i was saying bogey golf isnt great. but what i get which is like 38-42 on normal days. i dont see that as being great, but if you guys do then thanks. ima keep working on getting better this summer im going golfing almost every day. im going to try to be varsity 1 next year. because all seniors are gone.

i have the same problem slicing the ball when i golf, what i do probly isnt a good solution but somehow it works for me. when I'm lining up the ball to drive ill turn my wrists a little so my right hand is on top (i'm right handed) so the head of the club looks like its going to hook the ball then i regrip with the club like that and take my normal swing . like I said it probly isn't a real good solution and i don't do it every time i drive only when I've been slicing the ball pretty bad. but it also sounds like wind could have been a factor for you that day

wow you sound like your 12. op was asking for swing help, not your high school golfing career. seriously, shut the fuck up.

i think your meters broken.

golf scores are like incomes and penis sizes, everyone exagerates a little.

high 30's and low 40's is really above average (at most) in highschool. No where near being on tour which involves shooting like -5 on hard courses.

^ that answer

BTW to OP if you have any videos of your swing, or can get one. That is either slow motion or is just normal speed, im sure someone on NS MAY be able to help. it would be much easier to diagnose what you are doing wrong.

thats good. because you don't know me nor will you ever know me. and you are on NS!! its a place where we all let lose what we want to say and not giving a shit. if you met me in real life you may change your mind, but right now you are going off all my NS posts you have seen.

really? man im glad your here to add that up for me.

my point was, if you broke 80's, which you claim to do almost every round, you would have caculated a handycap, regardless of your age, or need too. how in the fuck do you not need to calculate a handy cap yet? what does that even mean? 76 on average is between 2-3 over par. thats fuckin good. real good. but you dont know your handicap?

just a couple pointers. real men shoot from the tips. everytime you loose a ball be it OB, in rough, grass, etc. its two strokes. no mulligans. no gimmies.

go play a real round and get back to me with your score.

I had the same problem last year and it was all caused mostly by my grip and not turning my hands, hips, and shoulders all the way through.

Why do i need a handycap? im not playing in any BIG tournaments that need it, highschool golf it isnt needed. so i really dont think i need it.
and with your pointers. i do every one of those except in highschool golf we play from 1 up from the tips. not the tips.
last time i played from tips, i shoot a 89. it was a tournament also. i didnt cheat, i didnt use mulligans, no gimmies, and when i went OB or lost my ball i took my strokes. if you cheat in golf thats just dumb. you practice like you play. lets say your are qualifying for a tourny and cheat and shoot an 80 then if you make it to the tourny you cant cheat because most have score keepers and then you shoot horrible. i play the best i can if i cant make it to the tourny because i shoot bad i take that as a sign to practice hard and try again next year. not cheat to make it.

why does anyone really NEED a handicap? your question is so redundant.

why do NHL players have:

goals.

assists.

PIM.

TOA.

+/-.

SOG.

etc etc etc?

they dont NEED all that stuff, so why bother figuring it out?

and dont even get me started on baseball players.

my point was, and i stick to it, if you were THAT good, you would know your handicap.

just like i know i have a 2.5 kill/death ratio in duty cause im THAT good.

along with the position of your clubface at impact, another problem could be is that you're letting your head and hips start the downswing too early. that can automatically cause a huge slice. once you're at the top of the backswing, take a small pause and initiate the down swing with transferring your weight to your left foot and follow with arms and hips. dont let your hips get ahead of the ball too much, tat was my main problem. it also never hurts to slow the swing down completely to discover where you're going wrong.

You're honestly retarded. Just because he's good and plays for fun doesnt mean he needs to keep every stat so he can claim with proof.

You asked why nhl players have those stats which mainly helps players with contracts and fans with fantasy leagues. I don't think anyone is playing fantasy high school golf.

i totally agree with you. im not attracting anyone or any college that wants me to play for them. i will be getting a handicap this summer just because i have a tourny that requires it. but why would i pay 10 bucks a year on something that is only used to brag. it may be used by professionals to get into tournys and stuff like that, but i dont do that yet. no one on my golf team keeps a handicap either. question to seward. how old are you and what do you USE your handicap for other then braging to friends.

If you pay for a handicap your handicapped.

i didnt say you need one, all i was implying is that if you break 80, which you claim to do quite often, there is a very likely chance you would have calculated your handicap. regardless of need. more of a want.

im not sure why my age matters? but im over 10 years older then you, ive been on this site since you still shit your pants, (you can check my member profile if your so inclined) so now that you played that card, you might aswell put it back in your pocket.

and i use my handicap to calculate my average score, i certainly dont brag because my handicap is not that good, i also dont claim to break 80.

lol, im retarded?

stats are kept for contracts and fantasy leagues?? lol

jusus h christ. if im honestly retarded i dont even want to begin to consider your mental abilities.

oh, and another thing?

what professional uses their handicap to get into tournaments?

does weir get a 10 shot lead on woods?

you clearly have no idea what your talking about. you shoot 78, congratufuckinlations, i didnt care from the start, i was merely proving why i think your bullshiting us.

this is all from personal experienceTry slowing down you back swing and you swing overall. also when you bring your club back be sure not to be picking up you club... it should feel like your arms are swinging way outside. Also try turning your club head more. head to the range and hit a couple of buckets. gonna feel weird at first but you should def see immediate change if you follow said tips. keep practicing bro

i dont feel the need to get a handicap. i know what i shoot. the reason i brought up age was to see if you where playing highschool golf like me or what. i could as easy claim my handicap is something lower then it is. so either way i could lie about my score it all depends on if you believe me or not.

read my last post.

your score is your score man, im just yet to meet a person who scores aswell as you that has not calculated a handycap.

im sure your good, and bragging about it on the internets only gonna make you better.

i dont know what your swing looks like but i solved my slice problem by not moving my hips. make sure that your hips stay still on your backswing and dont swing back and forth too much.
