shiiiit son...thats absurd. ive heard of it happening in racing since racers and racer parents are usually more asshole-ish than big mountain people at least from my experience....i was going to suggest that maybe during the fall the din got messed up, but that seems super unlikely...hopefully karma will get whoever did that...and note to self: check din before dropping in...
 
thats really unfortunate, not only for him but also for our sport as a whole, skiing is one of the few places where everyone is stoked on everyone else. people are stoked when some one skis well, does something amazing or just kills it over all, even if it means that they beat them at a comp. This is a terrible thing to happen. For someone to actually go out of their way to sabotage a skier. Any one involved in the world tour knows the power of the mountains. to actually go and make it so a fellow skier is more likely to fall and harm himself is unbelievable.

i dont want to see video of someone messing with his dins i want to see video of the final round.

one thing i dont get too if he is sitting in 4th place and he needs to get top 29, and hes like the thrid to last person to go, why the fuck would he be launching a 50 footer......i think at that point you just need to cross the finish line with your gear to get a spot on the tour.
 
Wow. If any of you have ever been around the big mountain comps, you'd know that the community of skiers is so strong. Basically everyone is friends with everyone. Generally, everyone is stoked on his or her competitors skiing. There is no way someone would deliberately fuck with someone's gear, especially since they all know the consequences of falling. They all got a reality check with that at the Alyeska comp, and last year at another world tour event. I'm sorry this happened to your friend, but no one fucked with his shit. But, I would like to hear why you think someone was after him, and only him.

I ride 13 DIN in backcountry and I pop out all the time, and I guarantee you that Cory rips a hundred times harder than I do in BC.
 
How big are you? You're bindings are not set right if you "pop out all the time" on a 13 din, unless you're a giant.
 
I would bet a grand that nobody fucked with his din. We will never know. How could you come on here spraying someone fucked with his din when you really don't know?
 
I'm 5'8", 145 lbs, and have a 26.5 boot. I had them mounted and adjusted by a certified shop but kept coming out regardless, so I cranked them down a bit. It's not like I pop out doing nose butters or little drops, I mean I have to be skiing close to as hard as I can in order for this to happen, but still...17 DIN for a big mountain skier in no way suprises me. I would be scared out of my mind to drop into a big mountain line on anything but a DIN that high.
 
What kind of bindings do you ride? For a guy your size to pop out of that high a din, your bindings must either suck or you send it harder than anyone I've ever seen. I've got a buddy whose brother is like 6'3''-6'4'' and like 180 lbs and he doesn't come out of his axial2's at like a din of like 12 I believe. And he skis hard.

i dont think that was what he meant... i just think he meant to say that when an american goes to norway to ski a comp its pretty serious, it takes a lot of money and commitment... (as opposed to a family comp in the states where its pretty mellow)

ever hear of dynafit? max din 10 . and its the most trusted binding in SKIING. mountaineers use dynafits. people who ski everest and denali use dynafits. situations you deffenately cant lose a ski and the conditions are probably gnarly. they deffenately dont use 916's, or any of those other big din bidnigs the bros use, because those bindings can pre release. or you can flex out of your binding if you land bacseat.

soo i never said this was the 1st time i heard the info.. i just said he called me and told me this story.. he there fore told me the story in alot more detail than a simple face book message..

if this really happened, it shouldn't be too hard to narrow it down to a few suspects. who benefited from him not finishing 29th the most? so, who qualified ahead of him? or was close in the points race?

I didn't really have an opinion on Cory Zila before this. But after hearing that he is going to Burning Man maybe this was a justified action. Maybe one of the competitors heard him talking about burning man and was so pissed he dropped his din. He probably thought the world would praise him for 1 less hippy.

And also why change the toe piece din? He would be far more apt to see that than changing the heel piece din. Maybe this didn't happen and he is making up answers for not making the world tour, and is still trying to get maximum travel money from his sponsors.
 
I've had a binding fuck up on me like that. No one touched it, it was just normal riding and stomping shit. Overtime I would have a din of 10 then it it randomly just pop off to 4.5. Did this happen to your friend, who knows, but it does happen. I'm sorry for his shitty situation and wish it never happened, but it could just be the binding. I hope it was anyway, bc it takes some dickness to pull a move like that (fuckin' with others equipment)
 
thats strange...I always see big dudes using p12s or whatever and they seem to ski fine without any problems. Jordan Seldin uses 912s and he goes huuuuuge. Meanwhile, my 135 lb. older brother does a nosebutter and double ejects on a 14 DIN. weird.

At first I thought it just must be me, but everybody else my size has the same problem and use FKS 185s for everything.

I ride FKS 155s by the way. I'm sure if I rode an FKS 185 I could rock a lower DIN without any problems.
 
you would have to need giant balls of steel to walk up to someone elses equipment and start cranking on the bindings, but it is a big mountain contest so there are plenty of people who fit that description! People are going to see you, so someone out there saw something unless he skis were left in some secluded area, we need more details to construct a better scenario!! But its completely ridiculous to simply point the finger at everyone who finished infront of the poor guy, start some conspiracy rumors. No reason to believe it didnt happen but no need to be a huge dick to people who raise doubt about it.

if it happend sucks for cory zila. i highly doubt a big mtn skier would do that to another in any kind of scenario, thats like attempted murder.
