Real ski 2021

They should keep it real street because it levels the playing field. Some kid from nowhere can build features, stack clips and make a name for themselves enough to get an invite and win. The contest isn't worth anything if we can't go out and ski the same way where we live.

Go watch Sam Zahners Real Ski edit from last year. It was filmed by the same guy. And tell me this years isn’t a step down in quality. Not only in skiing but in filming. I feel like maybe he was limited by the size of her spots or her spot selection but it definitely isn’t up to par with what I’ve come to expect from him as a filmer/editor nor her as a competitor in real ski.

for what it's worth, i'm more proud of my film/edit this year than last year. taylor's spot selection didn't limit me at all. i'm hyped on sam's video, but my feelings about only my own work on that is that it's 90 seconds of way too overprocessed and overedited footage. i'm always exploring new styles and currently i'm really happy with simplifying things and focusing on the skiing and not letting my filming or editing disrupt that. i could go crazy like i have in years past but i just don't think it honors the skiing.

I thought the edit was dope. Both skiing and editing. Probably the best solo woman’s urban seg of all time tbh. People need to step back and appreciate that we have a female skier pushing style and pushing street rather than trying to compare Taylor to A Hall. The vibe was right and the edit makes me want to ski more street. Keep up the good work. All the negativity in this thread is off-putting, but I think most core skiers were really stoked on it.

i don't mind the negativity, criticism is fine. i've been plenty overly negative toward x and realski over the last couple days myself. just wanted to put my rationale out there for why taylor's video is a lot more chilled out than sam's was last year.

thanks so much for the hype on taylor's video. really proud of what she was able to accomplish before her injury and we're stoked on what we made.

What do you think about the results, I agree with A Hall 1st and Hackel 2nd but I think Lupe should have been 3rd

Fax...no question Lupe should be third, sad to see because I wonder if he would enter if invited back. Imo not worth the time and effort if you aren't rewarded for an entry that should be on podium. Get some amateurs in this contest so they can get some real recognition and exposure

They nailed Gold and Silver, and Tanner is a legend, but we have all got to be feeling for literally every other contestant at this point. RIP bronze.

I agree tanner in third is wack but even though Lupe he didn’t place he still got lots of recognition for a dope part. I know lots of people who’d never heard of him before.

So now that Thall has a new medal, if Henrik didn't get the knuckle huck gold undeservedly would they once again be tied for the most medals?

Also, shit just saw his injury. Dude felt no pain, zero emotion. "It's gone. I think it's just gone." What a beast

I think one thing the judges are looking for is gnar factor, and we can't discredit how gnarly it is to be doing xgames real ski at the age of 37. He deserves the bronze but I definitely hope to see more out of Lupe soon

Henrik totally deserved that gold

You're just trolling if you're surprised by fan vote, it's literally a contest where you can vote every day, every athlete spams their social, whoever is more popular wins and in this case AHall (xgames slopestyle gold medalist, US olympic athlete) won the popular vote.

kind of bummed that we won't be seeing a 3rd potential Hackel/peyben collab

Only in Real Ski though. They are still in the same crew and definitely won't stop producing dope ass ski content

was watching the podium vids..i think khai is still salty from his last place finish in 2017, always hates on vids in the past

You guys are being a bit harsh TBH these real ski videos are hour long interviews where 5-10 sec is cut out to create a story, khai was told by producers to say something negative about the video (as was everyone else) and they picked the ones that fit their narrative the best.

This is a made for TV segment that's target audience needs some ups and downs, nobody wants to hear only positives, you guys ever notice how much more popular negative news is than positive? They're just executing a formula to create engaging content, not to please the hard core skiers on NS.

last year was so funny. when sam Zahner got knocked out cold he's like "there's no exception he should go back and got the clip". sam legit coulda died or became a veggy after that khai just tryna throw hate at everything he sees

Straight up woulda ended up like cartman in special olympics. I understand the broadcast has to show both sides, but feel like khai comes up with the most insincere critical response..wallisch on the other hand being like "only bad thing about Halls video is it's banger after banger and don't get to appreciate the filming"

That's the point, someone has to be the "bad guy" you get what im saying?

Lol people saying AHall got fan favorite just cuz he's an xgames gold medalist and most popular. Dudes part was worthy, deserved gold and fan fav

There's literally no fairer way to determine who's was "the best" than a fan voting system. Yall gonna bitch about results and judging system no matter what smh

I present you simon dumont winning xgames big air with a dub front over PK hunder's dub 12. fan votes are popularity contests, especially in the current age of social media, its not fair in any aspect dude.

2nd part is one of the dumbest things I have ever read.

2nd part super wrong. fan vote is biased by specific skiers' audience size, marketing push (how often are skiers posting to get votes, different social media strategies, friends posting, etc) - though i feel fan vote does still represent skiing quality alone to a mildly fair degree...

ahall has a huge audience and friends with large audiences to blast his for the fan vote, but you can't discredit that his video was the most fucked up insane of all of them ski wise. and while fan vote can get swayed by audience he also threw down way hard enough to justify getting fan fav.

for example, last year - jesper definitely has a more enormous audience compared with hackel, but hackel won because he deserved it for his skiing. it's not always just a popularity contest.
