Real-life example of obama's policies

umm......i would just like to say...Aspen...the lazy thing goes two ways.

Rich people can be just as lazy.....how many weathy people just own hedge funds and watch them grow, how many people have just owned stock and watch their money grow( well not anymore). It goes BOTH WAYS.

Im sorry, but life is alot harder being poor. Just surviving day to day is hard, even for middle income families. This is where i could see people benifit. Yes there are people who don't pay their taxes, but it could help alot of middle income families.

I'm not rich and I don't have ANY stock, but I wouldn't that in the lazy category. Those people know what to do with their money. They know what risks to take. It's much more than just sitting around and watching your stocks go up and down all day.

Ok I just thought for a bit before posting, and took most posts into consideration.

Maybe the poor can help the rich too? Well not only are they able to, but they do. How will corporations find people to do the jobs they need done that are low salary jobs, and jobs most people don't want. They hire poor people who do it because it is simply their best option. Without them certain things would never get done. I am sorry I keep reffering to poor people as "them". Perhaps classism is the bigger problem, rather than income brackets. Could that be the bigger problem?

It seems like quite a few people here (including myself) are looking down on people that make less money than us. We are sort of making those people out to be inferior people. Look at how many times "they" are called "lazy", or that they just want free money. Without them our country would be in even shittier shape than we are now. Perhaps by giving lower income brackets a break, and raising taxes slightly on the higher brackets and helping the people that make less money get their feet on the first (or even second or third) wrung of the ladder we can help them hope to achieve something more. It does seem logical to tax the top 5% or even top 1% more so the bottom 30% can better themselves and others.

Goddamnit, this is way more complicated that it ever seemed.

I think that the utility that the lower income brackets will gain from lower taxes is more than the higher income brackets will lose from paying more. that is way oversimplified I know, and the whole thing about incurring a loss for "the greater good," isn't something the people losing something like but still, it could be like Obama wants, just a bit less extreme. I do think his plans are too extreme.

Ya, I was about to say, stocks aren't just free money waiting to be had. There is a lot of work, sometimes even more than it's worth for small day-traders. Investing isn't something that is easy. I'm just getting started and its way more work that everybody thinks.

not if you have a trust fund, or a hedge fund, or own a company......which is actually sitting and watching your money grow.

Do you think most company owners balence their own T accounts, or write everything in the ledger? Fuck no, they have accountants for that.

Most people don't even know how the world markets work. Just because your rich does not mean your smart, or hardworking.

Ahh good old accounting. We learned about T-accounts a few weeks back. I think most of that shit is done electronically now anyway.

There are a lot of smart, rich, hardworking people out there though, a lot are democrats too.

wat i dont get about anybody is that why would a rich person just give away there money to someone else. this is unfathomable to me. anyone with money hasn't just found a million dollars lying on the streets. everyone who has money has worked very hard for it and i think its unnessacary for them to give it away. everyone has been the person bussing tables and made it past that to get more money. everyone could be wealthy if they would be intelligent and hard working. thats how you get money.

Thank you.

I didn't really even know what to say to him. not because I'm "A fucking retarded" or because he made some epic argument or anything though.

Obama has no foreign policy experience (claim...just saying that for the main point) . so you bring up Biden. okay-fair enough, so lets see obama and biden better than Palin on foreign policy...i guess i could see that. but wait...are we forgeting something? maybe the person running for president from the republican party?? yeah we should prooooobably factor him in this too...right?

These were almost my exact thoughts as from like 9-11 grade. I changed though cause the world isn't that simple.

To the girl who volunteers: props, that is an excellent thing to do, it really is. I wish I could say I do something like that. I'm the other way around, I'd rather give money than time though, but either way...And most people don't volunteer like that so I doubt it's really even taken into consideration, but you already knew that so it's all good.

As far as government telling us what to spend our money on, don't you guys enjoy roads, and things funded by the government. The government shouldn't just help people straight up for free, they should help people so they can help themselves.

i hope you noticed how i labeled them "republican talking points"

point was i can spout off the "change type mantra as well as the left" if i had a god dam nickel every time i hear change, and last 8 years. i wouldnt be on NS, i would be living in some far away place.

do you really think i would post all that change Bullshit while taking myself seriously? all the politicians this year are frauds. i KNOW that.

$250k + a year is NOT middle class. If you make that much and you consider yourself middle class, you have serious perspective issues.

If you are not making a lot of money you get tax cuts, not more taxes. I'm also pretty sure that one does not NEED $250k + a year. I can see the argument that it is their money, but your argument is saying that you they need the money.

show me ONE GOD DAMN TIME i said McCain was perfect, or even a good candidate. you CAN'T.

change subject much? you deflected the post by bringing up another candidate. noice.

Drew, if we were in a forum where a majority of the members were Conservative...you would then have your shit deleted because it's just out of this world. Come back to earth, Drew. Not EVERYONE thinks the way you do. Oh wait, in DREWTOPIA they do. NEVERMIND!

See I don't think 250k is that much. I mean it is, and more than twice what one of my parents makes, but there are a fair amount of people that make that much. I don't think people making 250k a year should be taxed that much more, if not more at all. 250K a year is like an inbetween income, cause you aren't making millions, but you also aren't middle class. Just off the top of my head, no facts at all. I'd say that people who make 250k a year worked for it.

The people we should tax are the people making multi-millions of dollars. This sounds bad, like stealing and shit but I'm not talking about taxing them much more than now. A bit more but nothing that substantial.

It's not so much giving money away that we don't have as playing the economy game. One idea of tax theory is that the more money in the pockets of the consumer, the more that consumer will spend on the US economy. Government spending often goes to unecessary things though, and then we end up with the credit card bill later.

Yeah, i know that they worked for it. But I'm saying that it's not middle class.

Here's a chart with incomes and percentage just to illustrate my point.

Hmm thanks for the table. I wasn't aware it was quite like that. That must be salaries because more than 1700 people in the US make over $250k a year.

Hmmm I find this interesting, and unfortunate.

Mad props for going to a private school though, you seem pretty down to earth, I mean volunteering, private school...NS haha. I probably sound like a creeper sorry.

How come it's being taxed as a 250 corp. Wouldn't they tax it as a sole proprietorship?

I'm not sure how they tax different companies but they probably tax a corp different than a partnetship or single owner, or anything.

im pretty sure his small business numbers are different. idk the exact figures but i doubt that would happen

Someone sent this too me on facebook the other day and I had the full day to think about it.

Heres my take.

Its easy to poke fun on someone who calls for redistribution of wealth. All you have to do is scream "COMMIE!" and many weak minded 'U-S-A! U-S-A" shouters will join in. But I would really hope that at least a few would take time to consider what the tax policies of each potential leader actually are. If you rely on silly mass emailed stories for this, then you might as well stop reading here.

Our country taxes its citizens. Taxes pay for good things. Money from taxes build bridges and roads, educates our students, supports our military and pays for our sick, (at least sick veterans). A fair amount of what you earn in this nation is paid back to support other programs, such as social security, unemployment and food stamps, that you may not use now, but may have to someday. Sure there are assholes who abuse the system, but they are few and far between when looking at the vast amount of people that these programs help. These programs are what make us a great nation. We live in a country that isnt a cut-throat society, where we try to help out the poor and give everyone a pretty good standard of living.

The gap between the rich and poor is growing tremendously in this country. Median incomes are still growing, but the gap between the very rich and the very poor is still huge, and steadily increasing. For the past eight years, the rich have enjoyed a great government that panders to their needs. In doing so, sure, they've made lots of money, but the rest of the country, the workers that they employ, are now struggling. We cant just keep injecting money and allowing the rich to get richer, for a functioning nation we need the workers earning money and feeling as if their government is trying to work for them. Should the rich pay a little more percentage wise in taxes? Why not? We're not talking about giving away their mansions and sports cars. What we need to do is take a little bit larger cut of their income and get the rest of the country back on its feet. For our country to progress and stay competitive, we have to have a workforce that steadily grows and gets wealthier, not a workforce that languishes and runs into debt.

Sure, the blame is on many people for our crisis. Stupid people bought stuff they couldnt afford based on stupid advice. Banks made mistakes, the government made mistakes... I could go on. But how to fix this issue - its not by taxing the poor more.

Fuck, I'd be happy keeping the rich's taxes level right now. I think with reorganization and a crack at making our government more efficient, we could raise enough money to stem the budget defecits and give the 90% of the country that makes less than 125 grand a year some money back out of what they pay.

We shouldnt neglect our social service programs or our poor. That our government steps in to help is what makes our country awesome. Thats why we rule. Because we make it so everyone gets a second chance and a helping hand.

where did they learn their skills? a very good business school in college. hmmm, college costs money. what about those kids with no money to go to college? why can't we make it easier for kids who don't have money get to the top?

That sucks. Libertarians are cool. But I don't think I could ever bring myself to vote for one. Their views on social issues are mad legit though.

Not necessarily, Alex, but yes a lot of them had money to start with. We can certainly make it easier without handing it to them.

first off, good post. very well thought out.

now onto this. where is the money going to come from? neither candidate is going to save us money. Barack is going to piss away money in Afganistan, MCCain is going to piss away money in Iraq. they are both pissing away money on the bail out.

and THEN on top of this Barack is going to cut taxes, and then expand social programs. yeah maybe in eutopia cutting taxes and expanding government would work, but here on earth it doesnt.

whooooaaaa justin. both are going to spend. mccain promises to cut taxes for everyone. obama promises to cut taxes for everyone but the rich. which one is going to end up with more debt here...

I'm not arguing for either candidate, notice how I didnt address them? Yeah, as a voter, fuck knows what I'm left with, both wouldnt 'fix' our country in my eyes.

Write me in. I won't fix it either but I'll give ON3P mad tax cuts, you'll be in the negative zone, I'll make the government pay ON3P haha.

Let's just cut out the middle man and make Scott president. Cmon NS! You've swayed online votes before... now it's time for the big leagues.

Im pretty sure he went to harvard university before he went to his basement. His parents must have some kind of money. Its not like he started on the streets with no money or education to guide him.

Ok. not to start a firefight here, but there's some blatant misinformation here. Under obama you would actually benefit as a college student. Also, if your parents really are not helping you with anything, it is your choice to be a dependent so that falls on you. Also obama's tax plan will definitely not cost your father 50 grand a year unless you are totally off on the numbers there. Yes, obama's tax plan will hurt some people. If what you've written is true, you won't be one of them.

NS of America, heres what you need to do.

Participate. In the primaries, vote and voice your opinion to the person who would do the best. If they slide towards what their party ideals are, fucking call them out on it and tell your congressman/woman you are disgusted by it. In my opinion, far too many people write off the primaries as a joke, but they are not.

It may be too late for this election, sure. But look at the choices you are given now and really ask yourself 'do they fit what I think is good for this country?'

shit! Barack sucks at speaking, uh, uh, ugh, ah, ah,ugh....

i honestly dont know what to say, i agree with michell Bachman, those are some pretty anti american ideas..... can we call a spade a spade? can we call a soft socialist a soft socialist?
