um, i wouldnt call it hardcore. i think that Underoath is hardcore. those bands are more like old hard rock, not hardcore. underoath and bad luck 13 are hardcore

last time i check, In Flames was metal. In fact, most of what people say 'hardcore' should be called metal, but call it what you want.

There's a difference between metal and hardcore. Basically, hardcore has a breakdown and metal doesn't. Metal sometimes has a bridge or a solo but no breakdown. And a breakdown is what makes the song which is why metal sucks and hardcore doesn't suck. Well some metal doesn't suck. But anyways, people just assume anything with screaming is metal which isn't true.

that's an illegitimate argument fool. Not to say it couldn't be..... metalcore?? The basic difference difference between the two genres is as stated above but things mix and there are other technical differences that I wouldn't bother listing if I were paid.

^ fuck you and your genres. That's why the scene is so lame because everyone is so concerned with what everything 'is' so that they now how to classify themselves. Metal and hardcore are so close together that it is pointless to differentiate them. It is the same as people classifying emo-core and screamo as two different genres.

what's butt rock? I keep hearing that term...in reference to rock n' roll...the only true rock n' roll in my mind is 74-93 metal

and van halen isn't really that hardcore..their one of the softer bands...try Queensryche or anthrax, or some of the acid rock from the 80s you'll head bang your head clean off

I have gone through this on NS before and I will again, yeah yeah classification, judgement, and genres and all that shit may suck but what it comes down to is that you either have to classify people or sub cultures. Keep it possi fellas.

dude, one of the problems is they all overlap onto eachother. No, there will not be a final agreement on what classifies a metal or hardcore band. So seriously, everyone can stop busting out all their 'superior knowledge'.

Hard Rock--Skid Row, G n' R, Ratt, Dokken

Heavy Metal--Queensryche, KISS, Leppard, Nugent

sorta like that was how we did it...but mostly it was just ROOOOOOOOCk and RoOoOoOoOll!

Lagwagon please dont post on the subject of music anymore...I saw Sick of it All and thought you had potential on that one but then you mentioned The Unseen and Exploited as hardcore...which they are far from being.

ThisAngelicRage is the only one here who mentioned real hardcore bands...despite my hate for Carry On for what they were. Hardcore is more than music too, its a life style for a lot of people. For real hardcore check out Blood for Blood, The Promise, Terror, Mental, Outbreak, Modern Life is War, Embrace Today and the always popular but god knows why American Nightmare (Give up the ghost). Old school hardcore is Black Flag, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Slapshot, SSD, and Agnostic Front.

Hardcore breakdowns are pretty much mosh parts, and hardcore moshing is not like metal moshing. Its not pushing and shoving, it involves more punching, spin kicks, and stomping. There is an AFI (leaving song 2) video on MTV that has some real moshing going on, plus has edge kids X-ing up, but they also show kids putting on masks which is gay...funny thing is they were playing Hatebreed and Madball for the kids to dance to.

yes yes it will. but really... how can you say there are no break downs in metal, but there are in hardcore? there is a huge over lap in the two genres, but that is just cuz of a huge sweedish metal influence in modern hardcore. hardcore music originated from punk. then came your hardcore punk, then sweedish metal started taking shit from hardcore, and then it all came together to get what we have now. and most modern bands are metal core bands... but it is really become extremely silly to try and destinguish all all this crap. hmm.

any ways.... unearth is a great band, and wednesday is gona kick ass.

Hatebreed, Coal Chamber's older stuff, Snot (now there's a band that is not played enough). These are some good hardcore bands.

I was in NYC to see some bands one night...and some New York hardcore guys who played in a band called Fury of V beat the shit out of a couple dudes from coal chamber...funny shit.

PS godsmack is not hardcore its metal. Hatebread does rule though.
