Anybody notice the similarity of shots? I recommend buying one or the other...coughFORWARDcough... because they were sooo similar. Like, even how they were edited was very similar, ie. Chricton killing the massive table at hood.

i vote forward, there's some repeated footage but not a lot, a little bit in steele and chritons but not much, and the special features kick ass

I think berman submitted alot of clips to PBP. A lot of Chrichtons shots in RFA were taken from big shoots, and it was all so dope everyone had to use it. thats my theory.

It would be nice if companies stopped trading shots, because that takes alot out of each video. I like seeing different shoots in different videos. But when its all mixed, then they all look the same.

chrichtons part is almost identicle but forward is way better.....much more footage and teh special features are way better

theyre both very solid movies... 5 songs total that i had lined up for my movie were taken between the two of them though, so im mad at both.. haha, not really.. theyre sick.. id choose forward over rfa think... actaully.. its very close... dont ask me... im so amped on everything right now

How much urban is there in Forward? I thought that Forward was gonna have some insane urban sessions like Strike 3. Does it have the same flow as Ready fire aim, like a shot of a park rail, then booter, table top, handrail.... or is it like totally urban some segments. I like both equally but That is a major reason why i purchased Forward as well as Ready fire aim.

haha the intro to chrictons in rfa is better. but my vote does go to forward. (sorry pbp, I still own half your dvds though :)

forward had the sick big mountain stuff, but park stuff was the same as rfa if i were gunna buy one i would get forward they really do have like the EXACT same shots in some things like i think cr's x game pipe run is even shot from the same camera

forward's urban shots kill it...especially the urban 'cliff' drops...

chricton's rail at the end of his segment, wow. and I just watched forward again... despite the fact that I want to punch dumont in the face sometimes, he is so ill!

forward has waaayyy too much rap, is too short, and dumont as last section? come on...he's REALLY good but crighton os someone should have had last section

as for overlap, why the fuck did forward have the shot of DC on the big red fucking PBP wall?

i personally think RFA kicks forward's ass

(but forward is damn good)

I vote RFA because I got it first, so Forward has the repeated shots, not RFA

You know what FINE stands for right?

'and it was good'

most of these 'repeated' shots for chriton are more than likely shot by berman and donated to pbp

'yea really, who would honestly get RFA over Forward anyways?, if you do your not thinking'-somebody earlier in the thread ...or your thinking for yourself.

suepr awesome cool!

why would he give out his shots and then put them in his own movie too? wouldnt he just keep his own footage or not use the shots he gave away?

Ya i don't get it. Why would he give a shot that is gonna be used in both movies? Maybe he traded for a diffrent shot...???

stephen_beast i was just saying that the majority of people i have discussed this with and my own opinon shows that everyone would want to buy forward over RFA..... im not sure what your post was trying to accomplish

to look at it in overall perspective, this niche of the ski world is very small compared to that in snowboarding. the snowboarding movie industustry has far more pro athletes and resources to spread around, enough to fill many films with lots of unique shit. that is why in my opinion they are better. there are several crews that can dedicate themselves to one movie project, and go around filming on there own different agendas. this is why you rairly see a athlete overlapped in different movies, or let alone a similar or repeated shot.

right now it is harder to do that in ski films.

there is only just so much to spread around in one filming season. but as everything grows and gets better, this should all entirely change for the better...as i think it is right now to a certain extent.

anyway, movies rock.

havent seen forward, but i was pleased with RFA. So I'm content with my decision on buying this over forward..

next comes the purchase of 1242 and maybe french toast to support the awesomeness of candide.

omg how do you figure berman got all the footage and gave it to pbp? was that a random guess? did you notice the red wall ride had PBP fucking printed on it??

something tells me pbp got the shots, and shared

as short as it was, i enjoyed forward more, i just liked the all around style of it, like the sections were well done, and the music went well with the skiing

there really wasn;t a bad section, i just wish there would've been more...i also likes all the special features

rfa was very good also, but it kind of seemed like it's not where pbp's priorities were, what i figured is that they're spending a lot more time and effort on 1242, but yet, i was still satisfied with rfa

so i'm glad i got both

Any urban footage that you see in Both movies did Not come from poorboyz. But both level 1 and pbp got a lot of similar footage from park / BC shoots, one of which was set up by pbp in aspen.

some footy in these movies was obviously shared as well. hope thats not too confusing. but unfortunatly that is what can happen when two films shoot with some of the same riders. i think its all good though, because these two movies are still very different.

I better set this straight before rumors run too rampant here...

It just so happens that most of the film companies share, exchange, or trade footage with oneanother. As Freelowda pointed out, the talent pool ins't quite deep enough right now (not only as far as athletes, but cinematographers too!) to pack a half dozen feature length movies with entirely unique and high quality athletes, locations, and shots. Furthermore, even with a full time staff of a half dozen cinematographers (or 1 full-time cinematographer in my case), its still almost impossible to get all the footage you need to create the segments that you either want to put together, or in some cases are contractually obligated to create, and as a result, sharing, trading, exchanging, and selling of footage goes on in order to fill the voids.

It always has been this way, and it almost definitely will continue to be this way for years to come.

As far as shot similarities between RFA and Forward, I'm sure you will find some shots that are either similar, or in a very few cases, the same, in both movies, since Johnny and I helped eachother out and worked together on a few projects this past season. I can't quite understand why this bothers some of you as much as it does, because there are probably around 10 or so similar (or the same) shots between the two movies which amounts to potentially 1 minute or so, out of movies that are 50 and 40 minutes long, respectively. Regardless of any similarities in some of the shots, the end products are entirely unique and substantially different from eachother in so many ways. Of course everyone purchases movies for different reasons, but as far as my interests go, the value of a movie is determined by the way its put together and the end result as much, if not more, than the shots that go into it. Thats why the filmmaking process is such an amazing thing... I could give you a million examples to illustrate this, but I won't because I'm sure that anyone who has a clue here doesn't need this concept explained or illustrated further.

Anyway, to get back to the issue at hand, and to explain once and for all any similarities in shots between RFA and Forward, simply enough, Johhny helped me out on a few occasions this past winter (Thank you Johnny D!) and I in turn helped him out by giving him some footage in return. As well, incidents arose where PBP was conducting shoots where they wanted one or more of the athletes that I was traveling and shooting with to show up, and as a result, I was permitted to shoot, of course. Additionally, we traded shots here and there to fill some holes and round out some segments in each of our movies. So any Crichton shots that are similar (or the same) in our movies, were likely shot by L1P. Any of the shots of Crichton, or any other athlete that are from the PBP shoot in Aspen that appear in Forward were shot by me, but of course can be credited to PBP, as they (Johnny) made that happen. Additionally, MSP has got a bunch of L1P shots in their film this year, and Forward uses a few MSP shots; TGR used a number of PBP shots, and PBP used a good few TGR shots; Volume also uses a number of Level 1 shots, and both PBP and L1P used a few Volume shots; as well, Plehouse used a large number of L1P and Volume shots, and PBP, L1P, and Volume used a couple of Plehouse shots; also, Push Films is using a few L1P shots, and PBP and L1P both used a couple shots from Push Films. Thats the very short version of the story, but I'm sure you get the idea... all the production companies rely on eachother for help to get the job done!

So ultimately any sharing and cooperation that goes on between film companies, as far as I'm concerned, shouldn't be shunned at this point, but encouraged, as it results in stronger segments, better and more complete movies, happy sponsors, and athletes content that their segments represent the best of what they have to offer.

The end.
