Okay, im about to buy a 00' eclipse. Standard, slow 4-cylinder manual. Nothing impressive, but fuck it. It's my first car, doesnt need to be running a 12sec 1/4 or anything. heres the order i want..oh and its blue

Replace the wing 1st,

Wheels(black, 18inch, 5-spoke),

Euro lights,

exhaust(single),

body kit(razzi maybe),

stereo,

amps/subs,

neons,

lowering springs,

cold air(AEM),

MAYBE racing seats(sparco),

Replace the shifter nob,

graphic,...

what do you guys think??

no way man, cold air and exhaust at the same time. and turbo in there somewhere too. youll thank me later. but in all honesty, intake and exhaust first.
 
dont get a base model eclipse first off...

you want a gsx i think the other dsms are pretty pointless. and your rice mods are not cool and tasteless.
 
dont get a wing, leave the stock wings, wings are pointless on fwd cars.

id do intake exhaust chip and a turbo system, even thought its hard on a 2g ecplise. but i know my way around engines so it would be douable, but i dont know your level of expertiese.
 
I only have 6k to spend on my car, and then over time when i get more money thats where the mods come in. The basemodel will be pointless to put a turbo in, and it will stay slow. I'm 16, if i want a fast car then id get something like a Vr-4 or something with 200k miles and 10 years old. I just want something newer, that i will enjoy putting my time and money into. My ideal car would be a Mustang GT, Volkswagon R32, Sti, Mercedes C280, or something that is easy to mod. But if you like my idea, tell me what u think about the list of mods and what order you would do
 
Well, i really like the looks of this one, im not sure what you think. But i'd rather have my car look like this, than be stock and have 100 more horsepower.

well i agree with japanda. but if you cant do anything about a faster car stock AT least exhaust, intake, turbo, and chip. leave the rest stock man. rims and tires wont make you faster, and if its about anything id choose perforemance first.
 
It's hard to find any turbo AWD for the 6 grand i can spend. This is the best deal ive found, if you can find a better car for the money within 100miles of zip code 44251 then let me know.
 
well first, u guys keep calling it a 2g, ur wrong. its the 3rd gen. i have a 2g(see profile). i know people always say dont make ur car cool unless its fast. but if hes into making it a show car(like i did on my N/T) let him. its cool the amounts of heads turned daily compared to just being able to drive just as fast as every porsche or sti on the road. i see both sides of the arguement though, because i have a slow 99 eclipse show car, but now i am selling it to start over with a GSX. for a first car 16 year old, a N/T to learn on is ffiinnneeee.

but for ur mods. who cares about lights. ur gonna want to start off with intake/exhaust. then depending on how much u love music, u might want a system soon. then rims r expensive but very good buy. then u cna do whatever once u have that base, like body kit, lights, neon, etc
 
your mods should go somewhat like this; tires, wheels, suspension/struts, cai, exhaust, performance chip, short shifter, and headers to start. then move on to upgrading the block(cams, pistons, etc),clutch, flywheel and fuel system. if at any point you have $5000 to drop, buy a nice turbo setup. personaly i wouldnt put much money into body kits and that other tacky shit, especially if your cars still slow.

driving is fun. its your first car, so you really dont know. but it is. its up there with skiing. dont throw away money on ugly ass body kits and shit, its retarded.

things you should look at:

good tires on decent light wheels (20"s arnt light wheels!)

turbo, intake, exhaust, chip, various other engine mods, not famialer with that car, so cant tell ya where to start

suspension. new shocks, stiffer springs, new bushings. shock braces

brakes, big brake kit (importnat, never overlook brakes)

shifter linkage

your soooo much better off to make your car fun to drive than fun to look at. besides, a cladded up junker with all sorts of air intakes will only get you laughs, not respect. that car has plent of potential, you just gotta put your moeny in the right place. and i personally would start at the wheels/tires, light engine mods, suspension, and heavy engine mods last.
 
you're just gona waste your money on things that will make you get ridiculed and have a gay car. Neon? Are you serious?

First thing, take off the wing, make sure you don't have one of those loud ass big mufflers that makes me feel like I'm in a trailor park whenever I hear one, and get good tires and suspension so it actually drives nicely.

I hate to rag on you because I know you are young, but look at it from an older person's perspective for two seconds. Your going to look like a tool with this crap. Let me go down the list and explain most of this to you.

Its really a bad idea to toy with a cars aerodynamics unless you are actually a track driver, you don't need a wing truthfully unless you are going above 75. Notice thats when porsche's automatic wings rise up, because before that point you are barely adding downforce, which is the whole point of the car's wing. The same thing with body kits, the whole point is to add downforce in corners and highspeed straits, but your not going to need that for street driving. Chances are you are either going to ruin your handling or worse install it wrong and jack up the car. Also chances are you are thinking bolt on spoilers, A REALLY BAD IDEA.

This is an agreeable option. Much better then the pointless wing. They can dynamically change the look of the car. Also it gives more room for bigger brakes. Which brakes and suspension are the first two things you worry about on your car. Before you get to the engine hopping up power, YOU MUST HAVE IMPROVED BRAKING ABILITY AND IMPROVED SUSPENSION BEFORE ONE BIT OF EXTRA HORSEPOWER IS PUT IN.

"Euro lights"

Absolutely pointless, they make cars look like white trash. Stay away at all costs seriously. No girl is going to think its cute. I have a friend with a mustang with him and he gets trashed on constantly.

"Exhaust(single)"

Ok if your going with an exhaust remember to follow from engine to exhaust the whole way out. Many people believe if they put a coffee can at the end of their pipe it improves performance. NO NO NO it doesn't. You are not increasing airflow. You must follow 3 inches from the engine to the cat all the way out the back. If you have 3 inches all the way out but one piece that is 1inch, you have not made any difference. Three basic lessons.

1) The sound of the car comes from the engine, NOT THE EXHAUST

2) The HP is not increased by adding an apc coffee can to the end, and you sound like a dick doing 15 sounding like you are doing 90. Anyone who truly knows anything about cars will look at you like you are a poseur to the automotive world.

3) If you want to install a proper exhaust its going to cost you $500 plus, look closer to $1,000 in your estimates.

"body kit(razzi maybe)"

Refer back to the wing

"stereo, amps/subs"

I cannot disagree with a good stereo, but remember dynomat it. There is no point in going around with your car vibrating. Once again girls will laugh at you.

"neons"

NO, JUST NO, YOU WILL LOOK LIKE A WHITE TRASH TEENAGER WHO WATCHED TOO MUCH FAST AND THE FURIOUS AND IS NOW THE BIGGEST POSEUR ON THE STREETS. JUST NO.

"lowering springs"

Go with a legit brand like bilstein, koni, or eibach that were made for your car. DO NOT CUT THE SPRINGS, it will blow your camber futher blowing your suspension. The first thing, as i have said before, is to improve brakes and suspension. This is a good start. Also look into strut braces, and any other types of strengthening bars you can put onto your car.

"cold air(AEM)"

It's a good improvement to the car, just make sure you are doing it correctly and actually getting more air to the motor. Thats the whole point.

"MAYBE racing seats(sparco)"

Don't get racing seats. They are uncomfortable and useless. Rather take your seats into a stitch artist and they can do two things you will really love.

1) Put more cushion into the sides so your seat wraps around you more and holds you in the corners comfortably.

2) For a small chunk of change you can get a two-tone interior.

If you want pussy, make it a nice place to sit, and some how she will find her way into the back seat with her panties still in the front.

"Replace the shifter nob"

Stupid and novelty I understand, I even ponder the idea. If you want to change it, remember fine materials. Go with carbon fiber or a nice beach wood like they have in the porsche carrera gt. You will thank yourself for it later.

"graphic"

Unless you are sponsored by a racing team, graphics are pointless, very rarely does anyone get the color scheme right so don't even worry about it.

someone mentioned a turbo

unless you have four grand for the turbo, money for the hoses, money to upgrade the transmission, clutch, master and slave cylinder (just to name a few) do not add serious ammounts of hp. To upgrade one item of your motor, YOU MUST UPGRADE THE WHOLE MOTOR, or else you will blow everything out. People disagree with me on this all the time, and then wonder why they have to buy a new honda every six months.

Insurance + Legal

if you are paying for your insurance keep the receipts for all of your items. you will have to pay them on average an extra 10% to insure whatever you add to your car. So if you put $1,000 in extras on your car, you will have to pay them $100 to insure it per year. So you are thinking what if I don't tell them. Well it doesn't make them very happy when the police find your car is illegaly lowered and reports this. They kind of want to know about these little details. Even if your company doesn't care, what happens if your car is stolen. That $1,000 is gone and they will not refund those parts of the car. Also if you are involved in an accident, a cop can easily assume that the reason for the crash, unless blatently the other person's fault, is you had a failure on a part you installed. Another thing to think about is what if you are pulled over with a car you have visually improved. Good luck talking him out of a ticket. Its more important to have a sleeper car that is quick yet looks silent and sounds it too.

Do not spend money you could spend on education on your car. DUMBEST MOVE. You buy a car, spend your college money on it, work at taco bell, the car is nice for a couple of years, you have no education, no stability, you're working at taco bell with no equity on your worthless car and you have basically checkmated yourself. Sounds over exaggerated, HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.

MY FINAL POINT

Honda drivers meet at the local walmart, Porsche drivers meet at the track. Catch my drift. If you really care about cars read books on how to improve your driving skills, better yet attend some driving schools. They have camps where people go for a week and drive around tracks improving their skills, kind of like high north but with properly suped up cars going around a track at 130mph. Ignore the highschool image of what a good driver is, its bullshit.

WOW...longest words of wisdom ive ever heard. Im still putting that wing on, and wheels, and lowering it. But now im thinking Wing first, Cold air and exhaust, then lowering it. Maybe that will be enough for a start. Then Engine engine engine if anything.
 
keep in mind that a porsches spoiler comes out at 75 b/c at 75mph on a RWD car it makes extra downforce. In theory a wind on a FWD acr can have the adverse effects, acutally creating lift. Granted this would take some high speeds. If you still get a wing godforbid, dont get those blot on pos ones, and NO ALUMINUM ones plaease!
 
i'm sorry, but ricers are fucking queer. either get the money and get a nice sports car, or get a functional car.
 
an evo wing on an eclipse will not mess it up and imo they look fucking awesome. and he is going to have to put a lot of money into it to make it fast since it only a rg/gs. . if he gets rims, tinted windows and that wing it will look nice. not ricey at all. a bodykit is too much as are lights and a cf hood if you were thinking of getting one.

Keep it tasteful... depending on what kind of stock power that car has (and correct me if I'm wrong but the stocker 2.4 L should be pushing a mighty ~150 HP) you will be a huuuge poser because you will be all riced out and yet your car will be about as fast as a dodge caravan.

that being said, eat me with the honda hate, i know i drive a nissan but hondas are not the pieces of shit they get the reputation as, there are many nice, fast hondas out there with realiability to match. I have a buddy with a civic(gasp what a ricer) that runs high 13 all motor, aaaand turns and stops Xtimes faster then a mustang.

Put some stuff into the engine before you go off spending shit on the body.

I COMPLETELY AGREE. HONDA'S ARE AMAZING AT WHAT THEY ARE BUILT FOR. They have an amazingly good line up and have great sales. (along with many of the manufacturers from japan) THEY ALSO CAN BE UPGRADED WITH A GOOD BASE ie A PRELUDE. Don't waste your time working on a 109 hp engine. Start at 200hp and spend 15,000 doing everything right, you will have one hell of a track car (and street car but don't waste your time using it there)

They have made how many VTEC engines in the last decade, supposedly none of them have failed. Also go to www.jdpa.com where you can read up on how your car ranks on the jd power and associates ranking. Notice how honda seems to be very high on quality standards. One of my favorite cars is from Honda, the S2000. Not only is it a sports car, not only can it rip your face off, not only does it do 0-60 in 5.5, but it gets good gas milage and is REALLY durable over time. (number 1 on top gears national survey for customer satisfaction)

As for a 16 year old listening to my wisdom. They never do lol. Its a set place in your mind where you think highschool is going to go on forever and if I have a nice ride I win in life. BULLSHIT. Its like materialism on a smaller, close minded, level. But he will grow up and realize, HOLY SHIT THAT GRAPHIC LOOKS LIKE WHITE TRASH, WHAT WAS I THINKING, AND WHY ARE MY PANTS BELOW MY BALLS... something of that nautre, get some cash, and hopefully show up at the track where the wisdom is located at
 
Oh and you do need a wing on a front wheel drive car at extremely high speed to keep the car planted on the road. Saab spent about five years trying to keep the viggen on the ground and they came up with a body kit and wing that increased downforce by 42%. Which is why the car is inhibited at 155 and not lower, but if you add a very small, somewhat ugly, front wing and a quick ugly improvement to the spolier, its going to take you all the way to 180, in a saab. The problem is they forgot to take care of the small things, like how every time you floor it, torque steer takes you into the median lol
 
Thats the point, it doesn't look good. Ricing up a car like that makes you look like Liberacci or something. And to the guy up above that said he liked his riced out car because he liked to watch people's heads turn and look as he goes by, trust me, they aren't looking because your car looks "Freaking awesome". They are looking because they are laughing at the tool that spent all his money on making a car that can't get out of its own way look "cool".
 
dude wings have to do with down force nothing to w/ an FD or RWD. to say there only for RWD is point less and stupid do u think just beacse this mazda if an FD it dosent need a wing for DOWNFORCE

The wing is for downforce, downforce on the rear of the car. So if its a front wheel drive car and only has a rear wing and nothing on the front to push the front down, then the rear wing will push the back down and take weight off the front. And with weight off the front, the front wheels will get less traction.
 
I agree that it is not the coolest thing around, but if this guy thinks it's nice... I mean that he wants a car that he likes not that the other people like or not. But I get your point.
 
Ok, and I see your point. I just think a lot of teen/new drivers want this flashy car and will dump a lot of money into it, then when they start driving it a lot, they realize they much rather have it be a faster car. Just trying to save this kid from wasting a ton of money.
 
yes and no yes it puts down force on the rear but at speed u dont want any wheels off the ground and thats why there is a huge front splitter on the nose of the car. and just beacse its a race car its not a RWD it aginst the rules to change the drive wheels thats why audi all ways gets the whole shots
 
Thats what I was getting at, guess I just didn't say it clearly enough. But the thing is, some kid slapping a spoiler on his FWD eclipse is not going to help it one bit. If it has any affect at all it will be a negative one.
 
I am so happy to hear that the majority of people in here are suggesting engine, suspension and braking upgrades first. It brings a tear to my eye that everyone is finally getting this right.

I understand you want the car to look good, but keep it a small part of your budget. And ask yourself this question. Do you want the kind of girl who is impressed with neon and wings or a holy shit seat of her pants ride in a fast car?
