read me

The bottoms of my skis are blue and then i come home after a hard day of skiing they have whiteish wax build-up??? is it from riding on ice? or i dont know. I usally use a rub on wax before i go. I have hot waxed them myself once. How can i get this stuff off?? is it bad?? How can i prevent it in the future?

I know there have been many posts about hot waxing but they are all differnt and it never really says a good for sure way. Heres how I do it:

1.Clean bases

2.Drip wax on with iron

3.Go over bases with iron

4.Scrap all off

5.Rub on wax the cork

*am i doing anything wrong?*

i dont think its very bad, but its probably from the rub on, rubbing on wax everytime you go out doesnt really make a difference, if you get them hot waxed twice a year then it should be good.

''if you get them hot waxed twice a year then it should be good.''

lol, waxing twice a year is neccisary if you ski twice a year. I wax every othere day my skis touch snow, it keeps them in much better condition, and keeps them fast. your problem is that your bases are drying out, commen from ice and rubon wax. Just get a hotwax done and you will be fine.

lol, you guys are idiots, you have ice burn, caused by not waxing your skis enough, wax will only last on your skis for 1-2 days, sure they may feel faster than what they ussually do after that but they will just get slower and slower, i love how people think that they only have to wax a couple times a year and they will be ok, if you only wax a couple times a year and ski a lot you might as well not even wax cause your waisting your time, it takes like 15 min to properly wax your skis and the more times you wax the faster your skis will get, if your just rec skiing there is no point corking wax in, just drip wax onto your base and iron it in, let it sit for at least 2 hours ( i like to wax at night and scrape in morn) then get a sharp scraper and scrap the wax off and your good to go, if you want to get more technical then just message me and i fill you in more, ive been racing fis for three years and have raced tuned for NORAM downhills so i should know what im doing

yeah, that's definitely the opposite of a 'wax build up,' but rather a lack of wax, which is causing your base to dry up. Hot wax moisturizes the pores of your base, and protects it from 'ice burn.' Rub-on waxes will mae you go faster for a little while, but once they rub off your base is even more dry. In conclusion, get a hot wax.

first, make sure you scrap really well, there should be no visible 'bubbles' of wax. There is no need to corck with base wax. But you do need to brush it with a white nylon brush (mean for skis) and it you want a brass brush and a horsehair brush. Also, BREFORE you wax you need to remove old wax by scraping them, it theres anything on them, and going down the ski with eh brass brush serveral time to open up the pores and remove the old wax. Make sure you have the right type of iron. The wax should remain glossy after you pass over it for a few seconds. Thats why its nice to have black bases so you can see spots you missed.

And you should have ever few times you go skiing.

whats the best household item to use to scrape off wax if u dont have the ski one

You could try using the ice scraper for your car windows, anything that is plastic and straight..a ruler is to weak, it would break, unless it was a sturdy plastic that wouldnt snap...dont use somethin metal though, make sure it is plastic

use a plastic card of any kind. Student ID card, credit card, etc. My safeway card doubles as a scraper.

yeah a plastic card isnt strong enough to get all the wax off

you get a rigid edge by bending it a little. It'll take a few more passes, but it works quite well once you get it.
