(reaction to LSM) it is easier to point the finger then to look in the mirror

in reaction to the LGBT athletes in sochi thread, there is being a lot of hate directed towards LSM and there "stance" on gays, people using harsh words like "it is sad that people like you even exist" and "boycott life steeze media" when the main part of his argument was 'I'm not against human rights, I'm against imposing different opinion to people who don't share it" and then we continuing to say "You should look up human rights and logic, you might learn something."

Well people of NS (directed mostly towards the americans) we are forgetting our most basic human rights. They have just as much right to stop gays as we do to allow them. And the fact is gay marriage is still illegal in well over half of our country and you are guaranteed to find someone with an extreme view against gays in our country, just look at the westboro baptist church. The only problem Russia is facing, is that they have someone in power who disagrees with gays, but it is up to the people of Russia to decide if gay rights is that important of an issue to fight for.

Look at the problems our country is facing, this guy Edward Snowden leaks whatever information about our government and instead of allowing this man to practice our most basic amendment, the right to free speech, our government starts a world wide man hunt for him, spending millions, trying to get him back but for what reason, because he told a secret? Who gives a fuck? most of us already knew what was going on anyways and my life didn't change because of what he said. But the fact that our government is trying so hard to stop this one man blows my mind. If our government is allowed to view our information why are they trying so hard to hide theirs? Russia is the country that allowed him safety. To that i say "High Five"

So to Americans, "He who is with out sin may cast the first stone". don't be so quick to judge, we have our own beliefs that much of the world doesn't agree with. Focus on our own problems.

To Russia, fight for what you believe in and change will come where it is needed.

To people everywhere, Fight your own battles and the world will change because of it.

To people of NS, please discuss.

thank you,

The reason people are upset about Russia is because unlike the U.S., you can be PROSECUTED for your sexuality. That's messed up. In the U.S. there are many people who are against gay marriage, yes. But the difference is that they don't arrest those who are gay.

Russians most likely will not "fight" for gay marriage because of the extreme anti-gay mentality that a large percentage of them have (see LSM). Take a look at what has happened to recent peaceful gay protests. Physical violence has been used against them for absolutely no reason.

And your point is that we should leave them alone and let them make their own decisions on it? That would make perfect sense, except the Olympics are coming up. It's a time to pressure them to change for the better.

Oh and another thing that really ground my gears about LSM's posts in the LGBT thread was how he referred to "LBGT propaganda." Propaganda? He seems to imply that the LBGT community is trying to encourage people to BECOME gay. No, they just want to be accepted.

this is what russians dont understand, that they arent trying to make people gay but simply live their lifes freely and accepted, which isnt that hard to do. people should be free to express themselves. i know it would never happen but what if a gay group imposed laws restricting rights against straight people. its easy to follow the mass when you're not the one being affected. just live and let live

how can you be so sure that being gay is that important. Right now your mentality is that freedom will make you happy, look at the freedoms are country has, are we happy? are we satisfied? Ill bring superman into this debate and say he has all the freedoms that i could ever dream of, and is he happy? No. He cant even get laid :'(

It's because the country as a whole is years behind "the west" in many aspects including ethics. It's like, if you grow up around a bunch of KKK members, you're gonna end up being like a member of the KKK. Also, people are always saying how we shouldn't have been involved in the Middle East, Vietnam, etc etc, so why do people care so much about this? It's not our country, it's none of our business.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that not being beaten for being gay would make many people very happy.
