umm why would you compare degenerates to scandolous, thats not quite fair considering degenerates was one of the first new school ski movies, and scandolous came out last year. degenerates ruled when it came out

I agree that it shows that pros are mortal but Propaganda and Degenerates were about 5 years apart, you cant compare. Its like apples and oranges almost but the oranges have a hint of apple in them and the apples have a hint of orange

dude you can't even compair it to 13. That was the next season. Degerates was INSAIN, I watched it at least 200 times (probably closer to 300 or 400) and wore the audio track out in a good part of the movie (the jf and vini section, to much slowmo I think). I'm sorry that you weren't in the sport then that you need to compare that movie to 13 or scand. Just shows how little time you have been around and how little you appreciated that video.

agreed....when degenerates first came out it kicked ass and to this day I still watch that movie.

...

haha yeah, when it first came out we watched it sooooo much it was like the coolest thing ever

i bought it after 13 because i was un aware it was older, i was thought the progression was going backwards, then i realised it was older and had way more respect.

I reckon its really up there with the best of them for its time.

i agree that it is a good movie. my only problem with it is that because it is older, it is a lot of the same. lots of backflips, frontflips, 3's, and 7's. yes, i understand that this was one of the first ns ski movies out there and it was before twin tips became really popular, but look at 13. only one season after degenerates and still probably one of the greatest ski movies out there. and when writing the review i compared it to scandolous and the game because i was assuming that anyone who would go out and watch it for the first time would have already seen many of these more recent films. degenerates is a great fuckin movie and it has some sick segments in it. tanner hall's segment from when he was like 13 is fucking awesome. i have nothing against the movie and yes, i have also watched it 20,000 times. but i feel that after watching more modern movies, the x-games, and reading ns ski mags, degenerates would lack the intensity of skiing today. no hate.

Like Prins said, you cannot compare this movie to anything remotely recent like Scandalous. This was basically the first mainly newschool movie out there. You can't knock it for the calibre of tricks being thrown cause d-spin 900's didn't exist back then. You can't knock it cause those guys were the innovators, this was the first time anyone (including me) saw anything of the sort, the first time these tricks were documented on film. And how can you saw it lacked intensity?? No way.

Degenerates changed my life... probably just as much or even more so than watchin Schmidt and Plake in the late 80's did and that was alot. The difficulty of the tricks in Degenerates compared to today are irrelevent. What makes it so influentual and special is that it is a ski movie about change. Change from the exploitive, played out xtreme yuppie scene to which skiing had become accustomed. It was a movie showing that skiing and underground can mix (which is where i have allways stood) it was basically the visualization of the ' new ski culture' that freeze magazine so elegantly described upon it's debut the year before. It wasn't about disgruntled non-snowboarders trying to fit in, but about doing something you love and conforming it to your own personal lifestyle and background, for example, someone who's mainly interested in bmxing, skateboarding, and listening to hardcore/punk is going to ski differently than someone who's mainly interested in football, tennis, and listening to journey... and are more than likely going to have very different styles when it comes to skiing, and rightly so. Their backgrounds are based in different areas and therefore their ideas about what's cool is very different... you can't or shouldn't change style just because your playing a different sport. Incorporate it because it's who you are. Degenerates helped imply that by bringing a new subculture to light, and reminding us that skiing is an individually evolving sport for all of us...If you like skateboarding and punk rawk ski like it, snowboard like it, walk like it, look like it, whatever you want, and vice versa. be who you want to be and don't apologize for it.
