RCMP looking to score some sweet guns (for free)

TLDR: The RCMP has made it illegal to own the Swiss Arms classic green carbine,696616.jpeg

1000-1800 of which are currently owned by Canadians. Up until about 2 hours ago they were perfectly legal, costing somewhere between 3000 and 4000 dollars. Owners must surrender the weapons, with no compensation.

This is just a little ridiculous, considering it was the RCMP that approved them for sale, and their no more dangerous than the many other rifles available for sale in Canada. Also god dammit, I'd have really liked to own one of these if I one day had the dosh. And im sure there's gonna be at least some people who won't surrender them, secure in the knowledge that the long gun registry was supposedly destroyed, which could get some otherwise law-abiding citizens some hefty jail time, since the RCMP still has records of it. This is sum bullshit, and no doubt not that last time the RCMP is gonna fuck with Canadian gun owners. The way things are going I better get my RPAL real soon.

I know a lot of people will think of me as a liberal pussy for this, but what is the point of owning a gun like that?

Speaking from someone who is basically a liberal on most issues, that gun is fun as shit to shoot. Some people enjoy shooting just as much as we enjoy skiing.

yo dawg that heat is hella trill. I finna cop that heat so if there ever is a petty robber in my crib i can just pop him and not worry about him stealing my chips and bricks ya feel?

skiing was actually invented (or according to some people, used widely, depending how you look at it) during WW1 to transport soldiers on foot in deep snow at high speeds. The point of this was to shoot nazis. SO, you could say skiing was designed to help kill.

Oh ya, the RCMP is essentially in control of most firearms related stuff in Canada. They decide if a gun is restricted, non-restricted, or prohibited. Just goes to show their incompetence, they ban all AK and AK variants, but let this beauty slide past696636.jpeg

Look at it, why wouldn't you want to own it? But anyway, whats the point in banning it? If someone wanted to get a high powered rifle that could possibly accept regular capacity magazines like the Swiss to do some bad stuff, they got plenty of other options that wont cost them 3 fucking grand.

Designed to kill, hmm ever heard of shooting ranges? You know whats interesting about you're argument, nothing, its completely ridiculous. When people blame guns for killings thats like blaming the car in a drunk driving accident. The fact that you used the word "playing" shows me that you not only never were taught how to use a gun, but you should also never use one. As for skiing not involving guns; the biathlon..

Sorry, I fact checked that. Started war time use in WW1, used widely in WW2 to indeed, shoot nazis. According to the wikipedia page, it was invented in 600 BC in what is now China. It was originally used to assist in the wintertime hunting of animals. So yes, Skiing was still designed to help kill. It did become widely popular when the WW vets came home (especially in Scandinavia) and started skiing downhill, for fun.

That is a horrible comparison considering that cars serve an extremely useful role and drastically improve quality of life while that gun is only a source of recreation.

I never said anything about comparing the two. All I said was that there are people out there who enjoy targeting shooting just as much as a lot of us love skiing. To a lot of people it is a hobby that they love, so that is why a lot of people want to own guns like that.

It's a sad day. Canada is one step closer to Australian style gun control. And also shows how much of a police state Canada is becoming, when the police are able to just simply reassign gun classifications and regulations without any input from government.

I was thinking I would buy an ar, just so if something happened where they would ban them, I'd be grandfathered in, as what happened in the past with prohibited rifles and handguns, but this shows thats not the case

This is possibly the most retarded post ever written on NS.

1. Skiing was around LONGGGGG before WW1 in some form or another. Some say Norway/Sweden was the first area of skiing thousands of years ago, I've also seen evidence in parts of Asia (Mongolia I think?)

2. The Nazi party wasn't in power in Germany until well after WW1. So good try there bud.

This is called bad gun control. wtf harps, didn't your rural, conservative tendencies abolish the long gun registry ? How does this move fit ? And thank you for giving the NRA more ammo, now they can run around screaming the government will literally steal your guns.

yeah... except for the fact that modern skiing as downhill recreation was 'invented' in the 1860's, with ski jumping going back even further to the very early 1800's.

Skiing as a way of winter travel has been around for 7000 years - give or take a thousand years.

So really, no.

I have a gun, and am saving to get more. I should have my concealed here in WA in a year, and I don't need one in AZ. Then i can buy my dad's 9 mill and ill be set.

I'm not getting Zimmermaned.

Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Ukraine, Venezuela.

These are all countries that have tried to or suceeded in overthrowing tyrants in the last 5 years. The belief that the average american citizen could never have need for a weapon is completely disjoint with reality.

I didn't think it actually went through as law??

But I can totally see why they'd be classified as prohibited. The one thing that would piss me off is if they wouldn't have a buy back and compensate all owners for the price they paid when they were legal to acquire.

well obvious based on what other firearms are prohibited in Canada. surprised it was ever allowed.

Fair enough. But a little good news, our gubmint is actually looking out for us, alot of people are not please and solutions are being looked into.

the funny thing is that most police have publicly stated that they won't enforce any federal gun control on civilians.
