Just a random thought, but Bishop recently mentioned changing the Picture rating system to either a Thumbs Up or a Thumbs down.

Could this same system work for Members? Rather than Karma, it could just say how many Thumbs Up/Down the person has.

Just a thought.
 
In my opinion, karma should be an average rather than an amount. I think that "what others rate me" is a better way to judge someone and their contributions than just a big number
 
This would be cool as well... Other than the fact that I'm like 4.9/10 from when I first joined the site. Went down as low as .98/10. Got it up a lot.. haha

The only reason I'm against it (and not for my own personal gain) but I'm rated like a 6.51 out of 10 right now and I feel like (for the most part) I only contribute quality things.

Yes, from time to time I post stupid shit but I don't feel it's enough to show me as a 6.51, or a D rated, member of the site.

Just my opinion, but I feel like in this situation is where karma prevails.

Again, I'm not trying to say I deserve a better rating than 6.51, but thats where i see the fault in it.
 
karma is better for the simple reason that your "what people rate me" thing could be like 8.5/10 because you've had two people rate you, but then a more established member, or a pro/ red name could have 8.2 or something, but have had hundreds/ thousands of people rate them. if you simply had a number next to your name it would completely skew the purpose of karma, which takes into accout each rating but also the number of ratings too

for example my rating is 8.14, but i'm miles away from being a top rated member, because of how many people have rated me
 
The problem with karma being an average is when someone posts something considered quality, people add +1 karma, most of the time. That would put mosts peoples average at about 60-70%.
 
this is true actually. another problem with karma actually is you can rate someone up, but their karma will decrease
 
I would rather see another improved karma system than a new rating system. Without the karma system the videos and pictures sections of the site would get even less traffic than they already do.
 
Ya karma system is totally messed up. I am rated a 0.75 / 10 and I and the entire newschoolers community knows that I am worth way more than that.
 
I think that you should be able to rate posts like you can rate pictures or videos, and on your profile there should be a combined average rating of posts,videos and pictures.
 
honestly i think karma is just stupid, it doesn't do anything important, other forums get by perfectly fine without it
